The algae are cultivated and taken through a large-scale fermentation process through tanks that provide vitamins, minerals and other nutrients – while strictly controlling pH, oxygen and temperature. The algae are dried and sent to an extraction facility where the EPA and DHA are extracted. The Schizochytrium species is extracted by way of a non-GMO enzyme whose role is to rupture the cell wall and release the oil. Isopropyl alcohol is then added to separate the oil from the water. The alcohol is removed by evaporation and distillation, the oil is then cleaned to remove peroxides and/or other small contaminants so no detectable residues remain in the final product and as the final step we add antioxidants. The manufacturing process is conducted under a GMP certified controlled environment without exposure to oceanic environment. It also states "No gluten, milk derivatives, or artificial colors or flavors." I have also noticed that other products tend to have long lists of other ingredients, while Nordic Natural's list is very short.Having said all that I would still recommend contacting Nordic Naturals (nordicnaturals.com) directly to confirm that they don't use msg in their fish oil products. I'm not an expert on FDA labeling requirements, so it may be possible that msg is a "standard" ingredient in gelatin, and manufacturers are not required to list it separately. If you go to their website and click on "contact us" at the bottom of the page, it brings up a toll-free telephone number and an email address to contact them.I did a lot of research on Omega 3 oils when I first started taking them, and I take a combination of "regular" omega 3 capsules and the Nordic Natural EPA capsules to get the desired level of EPA which my doctor recommended to me for my condition.
