For ppl with depression, you want to not inhibit them b/c depression, chemically speaking, is generally a neurotransmitter deficiency of serotonin, which 5-HTP can increase and/or norepinephrine, which L-tyrosine can increase. If you're deficient in serotonin then 5-HTP can have an equally relaxing effect like GABA, but without the risk of worsening depression. L-tyrosine is also worth looking into to balance taking 5-HTP. Any amino acid therapy should include a good multi-vitamin and a separate B-complex, specifically in the active forms, mainly B6 as p-5-p.

Answer:	No, Thorne does not use Phenibut in any product. Thorne's PharmaGABA is a bio-identical form of the neurotransmitter GABA, produced by fermenting the naturally-occurring amino acid glutamic acid, using Lactobacillus hilgardii.
Question:	What exactly and precisely is the difference between pharmagaba, and any bulk gaba which can be purchased at about 1/10 the cost-volume ratio
Answer:	"PharmaGABA™ is naturally-sourced, bioidentical GABA (gamma-ami­nobutyric acid). It is made via a process where the amino acid glutamic acid (glutamate) is fermented using Lactobacillus hilgardii, the beneficial bacteria also used to ferment many foods including the vegetables in kimchi." Studies with synthetic GABA have shown that it is not clinically effective. It may not be able to bind to receptor sites like natural GABA due to minor differences in shape. Bio-identical means the same shape as the natural biological form. (Unlike the synthetic form.)
Question:	How does this cross blood brain barrier
Answer:	The existing research on the ability of GABA to cross the blood-brain barrier is contradictory. Some studies conclude that GABA does cross the blood-brain barrier and other studies conclude that it doesn't. Thorne believes the form of GABA contained in PharmaGABA is effective in being able to cross the blood-brain barrier.

Answer:	I’m not that smart, Raeann. That’s a great point. However, It would seem to me that using gelatin from animals doesn’t actually contribute to greenhouse emissions. Animal toots and doo-doo are the reason for emissions. So I guess the only solution would be to kill all animals, or give them Gas-X in their food?
