User questions & answers

Question: It look like the distance between the horizontal rails and the grab bar is fixed. What is the distance between the horizontal rails and the grab bar
Answer: The grab bar height is actually adjustable. It looks like the grab rail is ABOUT 34" - 39" from the floor. I do not have it installed, so that may be off a little. I can't install it because the legs (even though ajustable) are too tall for my older box spring & frame. Before it can work at my house it would have to fit between the box spring and mattress. My mattress is a little over 14" off the ground. The legs are about 16" tall at their lowest, so installed, the stabilizing bar lifts the mattress off the box spring top. That is a rough measurement because I can't lift the mattress by myself to get the stabilizing bar back in there. Lost my helper to the surgery for a while yet - so I can't be exact. No lifting here at all for a couple more weeks. Sorry about that. It would be a good idea for the right bed. Maybe the manufacturer can give the exact measurements. The adjustable ranges are not printed in the documentation. Unfortunately I tossed it all as well as the box so I can't help with manufacturer's name either.
Question: What is the weight capacity for this and will it prevent falling out of bed as well as help getting up
Answer: I don't know what the weight capacity is, my husband is 6'3" and weighs 215 lbs and it works for him. As far as falling out of bed, it depends on where you place it. It definitely helps getting in and out of bed. My mom is 91 and we have one for her as she falls out of bed frequently and she hasn't fallen out singe installing it on her bed.
Question: Is it possible to place this with the legs inside the bed frame instead of the outside? I'm concerned my dad would trip over the legs
Answer: The legs do not stick out but sit right up next to the bed frame if you put the device up under the mattress far enough. My mom loves hers. Helps her turn over and sit up on the edge of the bed. She uses a walker also and there is no problem with the device interfering with the walker.
Question: What is the lowest it can be adjusted to? How far does it insert under the mattress
Answer: The lowest adjustment to the handle height is sixteen inches (16") from the floor to the box mattress, the highest is 20 plus inches (20" plus). We have a low profile box mattress (13" from floor) so it didn't work. It goes under the mattress 32" to 40". I could see where this item would work very well with a higher box mattress (16" plus from the floor) and therein lies the problem for us.

Question: Is it possible for me to return this product
Answer: I think this is a question for Amazon to answer, no?
Question: I have a 12" mattress on a hospital bad...how high will the rails be above the top of the mattress
Answer: Hi, we have a variable pressure air bubble pad on my wife's bed that is about 3 inches or so thick on top of the bed mattress and that makes it about ten inches on top of the frame. The side rails are at least 6 inches above the top of the bed and covers and so forth. I hope this helps.

User questions & answers

Question: I have a large queen size mattress, It's 15" high. Will this work and be secure enough to get in and out of bed. Thanks
Answer: I no longer have the rail, so I'm estimating it will extend about 6" higher than your 15" mattress That's enough to keep me from rolling out of bed.Properly installed, the design makes it very substantial as a hand support for getting in and out of bed.
Question: My mom has a platform bed with wood sides (drawers underneath.) Aside from needing to pad the rail to prevent damage to the wood side, will this work
Answer: I would think it would be fine. The bottom long rail goes under the mattress above the box spring. It works wonders for me as I have a high plantation bstyle bed I need a stepstool to get in it . The bed rail is such a help.
Question: would this work on air bed
Answer: Hi, Thank you for your inquiry. No this will not work on an air bed, it will be unsafe. Should you have any additional questions, please contact our technical support, toll-free at: (866) 621-4933. Thank you again, Deanna @ Drive

Answer: Absolutely---I am using it now with my mom's adjustable bed and it is fine---very happy with it. You may have to tighten straps periodically, but otherwise perfect for our use.

Answer: It is only going to work on hospital or home care style bed with a metal frame to attach to.
Question: How wide is the clamp that fits to the frame
Answer: The clamp is adjustable in width. Here is the instructions manual that shows how the clamp works. http://cdn.drivemedical.com/media/files/125/15208BV_hangtag.pdf
Question: If no tool needed for installation, and rail rises with position of bed, how does it stay on? To what does it connect

User questions & answers

Question: Did anyone use this with a invacare
Answer: no
Question: Can the rails be moved up and down
Answer: Yes they can
Question: Will this work with a invacare bed model
Answer: The short answer if "I don't know". The long answer is that I do still have the little instruction manual I might be able to scan and send to you. It did not work on my mother's bed because her bed had a solid underside and was not a medical bed. As you see in the picture they show, the flat area under the mattress must have holes to attach the bar under the bed and then the side rails fit into the bar and are secured. If I was younger and more ambitious, I could have probably drilled holes in my mother's bedframe and adapted it but I was not up to that much work. Let me know if I can assist with a scanned copy of the installation form (only one page).
Question: Does it comes with 2 rails
Answer: Hello Nakia, thank you for your interest in Drive Medical! This listing is for item # 15021BV which is a pair of bed rails.
