Answer:	The thermometer is rated to measure temperatures between 89.6 F and 109.4 F. Not sure if it will be accurate for measuring oil temperature. Since the device does not have a laser pointer you will need to be close enough to be sure that you are pointing at the right object for which you are measuring the temperature. This risks damage or contamination of the device when used in close proximity with things like hot oil or food being cooked. Typically you should buy a thermometer with a laser pointer for non-health related usage so that you can measure the temperature from much farther. These will also be rated to measure between -58 F to 1022 F (or so) which is much better for such usage as measuring oil temperature.

Answer:	Hi Chip, if you turn the thermometer off, whilst off press the button down and hold it and this will show you your prior reading. When you release there will be another reading usually be 97.70F which is the calibration temperature used during its manufacture and does not relate to the last reading. Answer:	This IR thermometer has a very narrow range of temperatures it displays. IF I point it at my hair, the lowest temp I've seen is 93.6F. If the temp reading is much below that it just displays "Lo". Hence it probably has a range from 93F to 108F as a guess. Other IR measurement devices, and I have one from Etekcity that's black and yellow is good for temps from -58F to 716F degrees per the label on it. That one just measured by stover burner at 408F, plus my fridge was 40F and freezer was +3F. This one is much better for humans and the etekcity is better for no humans. I read 94F on Etekcity and 98.6F for this unit on my forehead. This is made for people.
