13 best equine heart rate monitors
Equine heart rate monitors are specialized devices used to measure and monitor a horse's heart rate. These devices are valuable tools for horse owners, trainers, and veterinarians, allowing them to assess the horse's health and performance. Here's what you need to know about equine heart rate monitors:
Purpose: Equine heart rate monitors are used to measure a horse's heart rate, which is a crucial indicator of its overall health, fitness, and well-being. Monitoring heart rate can help identify issues such as stress, illness, or fatigue.
Types: There are various types of equine heart rate monitors available, ranging from basic models to more advanced and sophisticated systems. Some monitors are designed for continuous monitoring during exercise, while others are used for spot-checking the heart rate at rest.
Method of Measurement: Equine heart rate monitors typically use sensors, electrodes, or chest straps to detect the electrical impulses generated by the horse's heart. These devices then display the heart rate in beats per minute (BPM) on a screen or transmit the data to a connected device like a smartphone or computer.
Applications:
- Training and Fitness: Heart rate monitors are commonly used in training programs to assess the horse's fitness level and to design appropriate exercise routines.
- Performance Evaluation: They are useful for evaluating a horse's performance during competitions or races, helping to ensure the horse is not overexerted.
- Health Monitoring: Monitoring changes in a horse's heart rate over time can provide early indicators of illness or stress, allowing for timely veterinary intervention.
Features: Equine heart rate monitors may come with additional features such as GPS tracking, data storage, and wireless connectivity, allowing for real-time monitoring and data analysis.
Placement: Proper placement of the monitoring device is essential for accurate readings. The sensors or electrodes are typically attached to specific locations on the horse's body, such as the chest, with the help of specialized straps or adhesive patches.
Interpretation: Interpreting heart rate data requires knowledge of a horse's baseline heart rate at rest and understanding how it changes during exercise or in response to various stimuli. A veterinarian or equine expert can provide guidance on interpreting the data effectively.
Maintenance: Equine heart rate monitors should be maintained and cleaned regularly to ensure accurate readings and prolong the life of the device.
In summary, equine heart rate monitors are valuable tools for horse owners and professionals involved in the care and training of horses. They provide real-time data on a horse's heart rate, helping to assess their health, fitness, and performance. Proper placement, interpretation of data, and regular maintenance are essential for their effective use.

User questions & answers
Question: | Does the Polar H10 count calories burned during use |
Answer: | Yes on the app. It also provides the fat burn % of calories. It also shows heart rate zones, and zones where you were working out to get fit vs burning fat. |
Question: | Does the strap provide continuous heart rate monitoring? Can I wear it |
Answer: | The monitor is continuous as long as you're wearing it. You'd need something to log the data - the app is setup for workouts but it might let you have a workout without a time limit. I don't know how comfortable it would be to wear 24/7 - especially when you were sleeping. In truth, a better option would likely be a heart rate enabled fitness monitor like a fit-bit (I've used both a charge 3 and a Alta-HR). I wear it 24/7 and it does exactly that. Good luck. |
Question: | What are sizes for polar heart rate monitir |
Answer: | The XS-S has a stretched adjustable range of 21-38". The M-XXL is 27-60". The XXL size is between 29-70". - MikePolarUSA |
Question: | To those with experience changing battery, is the flip cap easy to open/close? H7 used a coin slot on soft plastic, so edges rubbed off=hard to open |
Answer: | I found the H7 to be of the poorest design compared to the ease of changing the battery in the H10. I can’t tell you how many of my clients disliked the H7. I think you will love the ease of the H10 battery replacement. |

User questions & answers
Question: | What does it have compared to other strap? If it is te name, you can get the fruit out |
Answer: | I purchased this because of the Bluetooth feature. |
Question: | Is it compatible with Vivoactive 3 from Garmin |
Answer: | No, you cannot sync the full run dynamics such as cadence, vertical oscillation and ground contact time to a Vivoactive 3. You could use this strap as a real-time heart rate monitor synced with the Vivoactive 3, but there are much cheaper options if that is all you are using it for. |
Question: | Whats the difference with the hrm-tri |
Answer: | Pro has Bluetooth and can store not just heart rate but additional data points like calories, steps, and intensity minutes. |
Question: | Can i connect this directly to my garmin connect app on my phone or will i need a garmin device like a watch |
Answer: | You can connect to the direct |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does ecg show pvcs, pacs , and any other rhythms besides normal & afib? what is highest heart rate it will record |
Answer: | Kardia has algorithms cleared by the FDA to tell you if your EKG is "Normal" or in "Possible AFib." As a regulated medical device, Kardia is not cleared to communicate any other rhythms, so we label all other arrhythmia's like PVCs, PACs, SVTs as "Unclassified". All rhythms below 50 bpm and above 100 bpm even if they are normal sinus rhythm are also marked unclassified. If you get an unclassified reading and are concerned, you can send your EKG to your physician to get their interpretation, or submit it for a Clinician Review directly from the app. |
Question: | Do i need a subscription to save my ekg recordings |
Answer: | No subscription is required for you to save your recordings. You may email any recording to yourself, your caregiver, or anyone you like. Our Premium service automatically stores your recordings in the cloud so there are always accessible in the app. |
Question: | Hi do i need a subscription plan yo use kardia? also, what kind of battery does kardia use? thank you |

If you’d like to add on the optional Premium Protection Plan (which includes Device Replacement, Cloud Storage and Security, Personalized Heart Health Report and Medication Tracking), that costs $9.99/month or $99/year. If you get the KardiaBand (compatible with the Apple Watch), that requires the purchase of the Premium Membership, but Premium is optional for the KardiaMobile and the KardiaMobile 6L. |

User questions & answers
Question: | do you have rechargeable batteries? works with 110v? and does it measure blood pressure too |
Answer: | Three red lights indicate full battery. |
Question: | My elderly mom who has copd and renaud's syndrome has a hard time getting a reading. is this pulse oximeter sensitive enough |
Answer: | Depends how you mean pulse rate. Accurate pulse rate is maybe 1 in 10 inaccurate much better percentage. Please do not buy this if you require a accurate reading for health reasons. |
Question: | who do i contact if this does not work |
Answer: | Hi! My name is Sara and I am with Beyond Med Shop. Usually, it takes about 10 seconds after turning on the oximeter to get a reading. Please note though that when your blood perfusion level is low or when your hands are cold, the device may need more time to optimize and register an accurate reading. In this instance, we suggest that you warm your hands and fingers before taking the measurements. You can do this simply by rubbing your hands together. Remember your pulse oximeter is measuring your SpO2 and PR based on your blood flow. If the blood flow in your finger drops below a certain level, the pulse oximeter will not be able to function. I hope this helps. Please email us at cs@beyond medshop.com if you require additional information. |
Question: | where is it manufactured |
Answer: | Yes I have and the heart rate is very close. I have several of these and COPD and this ones heart rate at least the one that I have is very good. On the cell phone app which is called Oximeter the oxygen sensor is way off like 5 points high which is critical and I was told that the cell phone oximeter was more designed for sports than for actual health problems! as an example a five point spread could cause major organ damage do to low oxygen! |

Q: How do I turn off the pulse oximeter?
A: The 500DL pulse oximeter turns off automatically in 16 seconds after you remove your finger.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can the 500DL Pulse Oximeter be used on children?

User questions & answers
Question: | Any idea if this will work with a rogue echo assault bike or concept 2 rower? just found out i have heart problems, so i need to monitor my ticker |
Answer: | If I remember correctly the Concept 2 rowers have ANT+ and work with Polar monitors. We used to borrow chest straps from the front desk at my rowing club during winter training, but it meant we had to find certain "new" machines. That would have been when the Concept 2's were newer. |
Question: | Is it possible to view the data from the polar oh1+ "live" on a pc if connected via bluetooth |
Answer: | I don’t know. It is possible on a Garmin watch and presumably a polar or Suunto watch. |
Question: | Is it possible to only buy the USB charging adaptater |
Answer: | Contact Polar customer support. |
Question: | How is this different from the OH |
Answer: | The OH1+ has the added benefit of transmitting on both the Bluetooth and ANT+. It is also packaged with a special google clip to be used when swimming. This clip holds the sensor next to the temple to capture heart rate readings. - MikePolarUSA |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does it work with the omron connect us/can app |
Answer: | Yes, the KardiaMobile 6L can be used with the Omron Connect app. |
Question: | Has anyone compared their results from their kardia 6 lead to an actual doctor administered ekg to make sure it's accurate |
Answer: | I did. First with one L and later with 6 L. Both are reporting Normal EKG with multiple pre ventricular contractions abnormalities documented with another EKG taken in the Hospital and readed by a cardiologist. I returned the one L monitor and I still have the 6 L. |
Question: | How is this a 6 lead EKG with no leads applied |
Answer: | To Narq: Sorry me bucko, but the three limb leads (leads I,II and III) of an ECG are achieved using three points of contact, plus the three augmented leads(Leads aVF, aVR and aVF -are calculated and require only three electrodes to derive these. Four limb electrodes are used in a standard ECG, but the right leg is only used as a reference (ground). Thus, six views, which for some reason, we decided to call “leads”, can be derived from three electrodes, which also are called “leads” (because that is common language for “wire”. So, one can use three, physically separate electrode contacts to give a 6 (six) lead (views) ECG. I am a critical nurse with many years experience in cardiac electrophysiology and many years in medical device industry as researcher and educator. I understand EXACTLY how they can rightfully make this claim. NB -don’t work for this manufacturer and have no relationship to the seller or developer. Perhaps your RN wife only read the description of the 1L version, as previously mentioned. I would politely suggest you retract your previous statement in response to the question, because it is based on your misunderstanding of the device. To Narq: Please read the above. Remember, a 12-lead ECG is derived from only 10 wires/electrodes and can certainly be derived from only 9 wires/electrodes using Wilson’s Central Terminal. See above for the rest of the explanation. I also politely suggest you remove or better yet retract your erroneous and inflammatory remark regarding fraud, not only out of respect, but also as a measure to avoid legal action from the manufacturer or seller. |
Question: | Does the kardia mobile 6l require a fee to keep a reading history? can you save the readings as .pdf's, at the time of reading, and send via e-mail |
Answer: | The KardiaMobile 6L does not require a fee to keep a history of your EKG recordings. Yes, you can export EKGs as PDFs and send them via email. You can do this directly after taking an EKG, or you can select an EKG in your history and send it via email as a PDF. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will this work with my waterrower which is ant+ and all gym equipment which is polar compatible |
Answer: | Yes and no. It will work with any Ant+ or Bluetooth equipment. However, a lot or older gym equipment only supports an obsolete non-coded Polar interface. |
Question: | Does this strap transmit running metrics also such as cadence, vertical oscillation and stride length |
Answer: | I have a forerunner 620 and using the HRM-Dual with that I get metrics including cadence, vertical oscillation, and ground contact time. I don't get those metrics if I'm not wearing the HRM-Dual when I run. |
Question: | I cant get this to connect to my android phone using strava or garmin connect i dont know why |
Answer: | The heart rate strap won't connect to a phone. It will only connect to a Garmin device, such as an Edge or a Forerunner. |
Question: | How is this different from the garmin premium heart rate monitor? or, what does the "dual" in the name indicate? thanks |
Answer: | Dual means that it supports both Ant+ and Bluetooth concurrently and also can support two Bluetooth devices concurrently. Many bicyclists have lots of devices they want their chest straps to communicate with and this can talk to both kinds/protocols. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can this store music and play to a blue tooth headset |
Answer: | No It is a TACTICAL watch, was made for military use. I have it and have used it in Syria, Iraq and several other countries. It is a really good watch and has a great battery life, playing music would kill the battery. |
Question: | Can you download courses created from a 3rd party site as a .gpx or .tcx file? Or do you have to exclusively use Garmin Connect &/or Explore for that |
Answer: | For course creation other than Garmin Connect Garmin devices are compatible with Strava and Map My Run. For more information contact us at [email protected] or visit our Support Center, https://support.garmin.com/en-US/ Thanks Jenny |
Question: | Does this watch have a great compass,a good one, or none at all? I bought it for my son for Christmas the compass is an important feature for him |
Answer: | Good Compass but not great Hold down on one of the buttons and the watch face becomes a compass. It shows the degrees (0-360) and the general direction (SE for example). You would not use this watch to plot a course on a map. For that, you can buy a compass for less than $20 that lie flat on a map, can be adjusted for a magnetic correction, they have lines, etc. |
Question: | I do desert exploring on a polaris rzr. can i track my course while riding and then use it to return home the way i came |
Answer: | Yes, this function is available when set to a GPS activity. You can navigate back to the starting point of your current activity in a straight line or along the path you traveled |

Answer: | Sometimes it is difficult to get the loop of the lanyard through. Remove the thread, then loop the lanyard. |
Question: | how frequently does it show pulse rate |
Answer: | Direct from their web page: Accuracy : 70%-100%:±3, |
Question: | How long does it take to get a reading |
Answer: | Yes |
Question: | Has anyone ever compared the results for this item with the cell phone ios app "heart rate monitor" and if so, are the results compatible |
Answer: | Perfusion Index or PI is the ratio of the pulsatile blood flow to the non-pulsatile static blood flow in a patient's peripheral tissue, such as finger tip, toe, or ear lobe. Perfusion index is an indication of the pulse strength at the sensor site. The PI's values range from 0.02% for very weak pulse to 20% for extremely strong pulse. |

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: It's not accurate and jumps around on the reading. Is the pulse oximeter defective?
A: When taking a reading with the pulse oximeter, we usually suggest that you wait about 30 seconds for the readings to stabilize. Some people require a longer time for the pulse oximeter to optimize its sensitivity. Following that, please also ensure that you keep your hand still because any movement can cause the device to reset its' reading - hence the erratic readings that you see. Additionally, nail polish and false fingernails may also cause false readings. If possible, switch to an unpolished nail or consider another application site.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How do I know the battery is low?
A: Please note that the flashing battery icon that appears each time you turn on the device indicates that the device is checking the power supply. It disappears after 2-3 blinks. If the battery icon remains on the LED display, then it is an indication of low battery level.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Does this device have any alarm modes for high pr and/or low SpO2?
A: No. The pulse oximeter does not have an alarm, however, the Zacurate 500D Deluxe Pulse Oximeter has an alarm/sound function. We recommend purchasing this model if you're looking for this feature.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can the Pulse Oximeter be used on children?
A: Yes. However, we highly recommend using our children pulse oximeter instead which is specifically made for children. The finger chamber of the Pulse Oximeter may be too big for children with small fingers. This can affect the accuracy of the reading.
