3 best household plastic wrap
Household plastic wrap, often referred to as cling film or plastic wrap, is a versatile and commonly used item in kitchens and households. It is a thin, transparent plastic film made primarily from polyethylene, a type of plastic known for its ability to cling to surfaces. Household plastic wrap serves various purposes in food storage and other applications:
Food Preservation: One of the primary uses of plastic wrap is to preserve the freshness of food. It is often used to cover containers, plates, or bowls with leftovers to keep them airtight and prevent moisture loss or exposure to odors. This helps extend the shelf life of food items.
Protection: Plastic wrap acts as a protective barrier against contaminants, dust, and insects. It can be used to cover food items on countertops, in the refrigerator, or during outdoor picnics.
Microwaving: Many plastic wraps are microwave-safe and can be used to cover food before reheating in the microwave. This helps prevent splatters and keeps the food moist during reheating.
Freezing: Household plastic wrap is also used to wrap items before freezing them. It helps prevent freezer burn by creating an airtight seal around the frozen food.
Sealing: Plastic wrap can be used to seal the openings of containers, ensuring a secure closure. It is commonly used for sealing salad bowls, casseroles, and other food storage containers.
Wrapping: In addition to food-related uses, plastic wrap can be used for wrapping and protecting various household items, such as toiletries, cosmetics, and small electronic devices.
Clinging Properties: The ability of plastic wrap to cling to itself and other surfaces without the need for adhesives or tape makes it convenient and easy to use.
Varieties: Plastic wrap is available in various thicknesses, lengths, and widths to suit different needs. Some wraps are designed specifically for certain applications, like microwave-safe or freezer-grade wraps.
Environmental Considerations: There has been growing concern about the environmental impact of disposable plastic products, including plastic wrap. Some eco-conscious consumers seek alternatives such as reusable silicone lids, beeswax wraps, or other sustainable food storage options.
Safety: It's essential to use plastic wrap in accordance with safety guidelines provided by the manufacturer. Not all plastic wraps are suitable for use in the oven, and there are concerns about potential chemical leaching when using plastic wrap in high-heat applications.
Household plastic wrap is a convenient and ubiquitous product in many households, offering a simple and effective way to store, protect, and preserve food and various items. However, it's important to use it responsibly and be aware of potential environmental and safety considerations associated with its use.

User questions & answers
Question: | Is This Oven Safe |
Answer: | No! This will melt at high temperatures. The description even states that it is not for use in an oven. |
Question: | Is this safe to poach eggs in |
Answer: | Not sure. However, one side of the Press n Seal is like a weak scotch tape, and I only used it to protect the food container from getting food liquid on, not touching the actual food. General rule for me is no plastic should be used in boiling water. |
Question: | How is this 300 sq ft? The images don't make sense |
Answer: | This container does not say 300 running feet BUT 300 sq. ft. which is measured overall. |
Question: | Are these biodegradable? I am wondering about the environmental impact of these, compared to plastic wrap |
Answer: | Hi there! Like other plastic wraps, GLAD Press 'n Seal is not recyclable, or biodegradable. In general, plastic wraps are not recyclable. However, because you don't have to use as much GLAD Press 'n Seal wrap to create a seal, there should be less impact on the environment.-Glad Consumer Services |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is the slicer included in this package |
Answer: | There is a sharp edge for cutting the material included in the package. It is not the same as the separate slicer, but it works. |
Question: | At what temperature will this plastic wrap take before melting |
Answer: | I don't use plastic of any kind to heat at all. I understand it's not a good idea to use any kind of plastic to heat like in a microwave. I was told that plastic gives off chemicals in the heating process. But I may be wrong. I only use it for wrapping and refrigerating, etc. |
Question: | is this the old meadowbrook wrap |
Answer: | I'vebeen using this product for many years, originally as a Kirkland product from Costco, I believe. However, I've never seen it marketed as meadowbrook. I will say it's the best wrap I've ever used and the only one I'll buy. |
Question: | This is made by PVC or PE |
Answer: | It used to be PVDF but I believe that it is currently made with PVC. The old stuff had more cling to it. there are more discussions on-line |
