Answer:	It can be installed using tension only, but it will be very flimsy. I would highly recommend securing it in place with screws, specially if you have children and/or pets. I had mine secured by tension only and it did not feel very safe.

Answer:	There are two shelves behind the pretty doors. The top is 4 1/2" deep, the second is 5" deep. The open shelf is 5 1/2" deep. (I love the look of my cabinet. I get compliments on it, and it looks far better in person than in the picture.)

Although it is comprised of wood fibers like traditional particle board, MDF is a far better material, is consistent throughout and doesn't simply fall apart like particle board over time. It is a dense material. If you are driving nails or screws through it be sure to pre-drill otherwise you risk splitting the material. Not as good as real wood, but better than particle board.
