14 best furniture waxes

Furniture waxes are products commonly used for maintaining and enhancing the appearance of wooden furniture and surfaces. They are a type of wood polish that can help protect and beautify various wood items in your home. Here's what you need to know about furniture waxes:

  1. Types of Furniture Wax:

    • Paste Wax: This type of wax typically comes in a can and has a thicker, paste-like consistency. It's often used for antique furniture and requires some effort to apply and buff to a shine.
    • Liquid Wax: Liquid furniture wax is easier to apply and dries faster than paste wax.It provides a glossy finish and is suitable for modern furniture.
    • Spray Wax: Spray waxes are convenient to use as they can be sprayed directly onto the furniture. They are typically used for quick touch-ups and maintenance.
  2. Benefits:

    • Protection: Furniture wax creates a protective layer on the wood, preventing moisture and dirt from penetrating the surface.
    • Enhancement: It enhances the natural beauty of the wood, giving it a warm and rich appearance.
    • Restoration: Furniture wax can help revive old and worn-out wooden surfaces, making them look new again.
    • Smoothness: It can make the wood feel smoother to the touch.
  3. Application:

    • Ensure the surface is clean and dry before applying wax.
    • Use a soft, lint-free cloth or an applicator brush to apply the wax evenly in the direction of the wood grain.
    • Allow the wax to dry for the recommended time specified on the product label.
    • Buff the waxed surface with a clean, dry cloth until it shines.
  4. Frequency of Use:

    • How often you should wax your furniture depends on factors such as usage, climate, and the type of wax used. Generally, you can apply wax every few months for regular maintenance.
  5. Choosing the Right Wax:

    • Consider the type of wood you're treating and the desired finish when selecting a furniture wax.
    • Some waxes are specifically designed for certain wood types or finishes, so read product labels for guidance.
  6. Wood Polish Care:

    • Wood polishes often contain furniture waxes as their primary ingredients. They can be used interchangeably for routine furniture maintenance.
  7. Household Cleaning:

    • Furniture wax is not a cleaning product. It should be applied to clean surfaces. Regular dusting and cleaning are necessary before waxing.
  8. Household Supplies:

    • Furniture wax is a common household supply for those who want to maintain the appearance of their wooden furniture and surfaces.
  9. Health and Household:

    • Always use furniture waxes in well-ventilated areas and follow the manufacturer's safety instructions.
    • Store these products out of reach of children and pets.

In summary, furniture waxes are valuable for protecting, enhancing, and maintaining wooden furniture and surfaces. Choosing the right type of wax and using it correctly can help preserve the beauty of your wood items and extend their lifespan.

User questions & answers

Question: Can this product be safely applied to a wooden bowl that will be eaten out of? Once the bowl is polished and dry, will it be safe to eat out of
Answer: Mine arrived in the summer in a similar "frozen" form. I didn't heat it in any way; but, yes, a serious "man"-shaking is required to get it into a more integrated, still-thick, but pour- or squeeze-able form. Its state is a good indicator that the product is in fact wax and oil, and not water-based.
Question: Will this get rid of beverage rings on an oak table
Answer: I recommend Howard Orange Oil. It cleans wood items fantastically well, and I prefer it to Murphy's Oil Soap. I have all three products and the Orange Oil cleans and shines so well that I don't bother with the Feed N Wax most times. If I could only have one product to use with wood furniture and antiques I would choose the Orange Oil, but both it and the Feed N Wax are excellent products. I completely rejuvenated a depression era walnut buffet server, an old floor standing radio and a dried out and filthy butcher block style maple work bench with Orange Oil. It cleans better than Murphy's Oil Soap (or any other product I have ever used) and is absorbed by dry wood better than the Feed N Wax. It works wonders on old tool handles as well, such has hammers, axes, and shovels. And as a bonus, it cleans rust off the tools really well too.
Question: Is this supposed to be a thick wax or a liquid product? Mine arrived and I'm wondering if it got frozen. It's thick
Answer: Would be more than enough, I use the 1000 watt version to run my 4 6x8's.
Question: what should I clean wood furniture with first
Answer: This amp is almost 150 w rms. It is poor in power. I sold mine. In less money than the amount that I pay. Becouse it is poor.

User questions & answers

Question: Would this work to fill in fine scratches on polished wood
Answer: Yes! You can use Daddy Van's to condition leather. I always recommend testing a small area first to make sure that the results are what you expected.
Question: Can you use this product to condition bone inlay furniture
Answer: Yes! And Daddy Van's is non-toxic and zero VOC. You can see some of the great things our customers have done with Daddy Van's over chalk style paints and milk paint on our Facebook page facebook.com/LoveDaddyVans. There is also a video tutorial on our website, DaddyVans.comWarm regards,Laura KalkmanFounder and CEODaddy Van's
Question: Can this be used to condition leather shoes or a leather purse
Answer: No! Absolutely not. However, do not fret because Howard's makes a phenomenal product just for the purpose you're inquiring about. It is 100% food-grade, non-toxic and won't become rancid or foul the way countless other oils will. I personally use the two part system that provides a FANTASTIC DETERGENT-FREE cleaner that is followed by the amazing wood conditioner.....here is the item: B07H2NT5XH Btw, you can get them separately, this just happens to be an amazing deal AND it is precisely what you need! I can attest to the awesomeness of their entire line of products, but I swear by the butcher block conditioner as it has been beyond my wildest dreams for protecting a handmade butcher block that is a Texas flag, where walnut is used for the vertical blue, maple for the star and horizontal white and red oak for the horizontal red portions of the flag. Lemme tell ya, it is GORGEOUS and it was beautiful to start with, but after 4 separate applications (one per week for a month just for extra good measure) that cutting board is so vibrant, smooth, eye-catching and has the most exquisite shine that I simply can't bear the thought of scoring the surface with knives now! I do recommend that you heat a large Pyrex or similar measuring cup full of water in the microwave....DO NOT BOIL, AS THAT MUCH HEAT WILL DEFORM THE BOTTLE BADLY....just about 150-170°F is plenty. Pop the top of the dispenser-cap just slightly to vent the pressure that will build up and set the bottle of conditioner in the hot water bath until it goes from a milky, opaque appearance to nearly transparent and more oily appearance. Only takes a few minutes, but then dispense onto your WELL CLEANED salad bowls, utensils, cutting board, etc., using a microfiber or other lint free, super soft rag, being certain to rub WITH THE GRAIN for best penetration! You may see folks applying in circular motion, but just as with sanding wood, this is best for applying oils, conditioners, stains & sealers!
Question: Would like to use this product as a less expensive alternative to annie sloan soft wax to finish chalk painted furniture, yes
Answer: Restor-a-finish, light sand with 0000 steel wool wipe and wipe on and done. Made just for beverage rings.

User questions & answers

Question: I just ordered this product and am wondering if it's supposed to be solid? I was expecting more of a paste consistency, as the label implies
Answer: It is a paste but more solid than some. Easy to gather some up on an applicator cloth and apply. I like this wax, and while I use others too, coming back to this one is like coming home.
Question: Is this the paste wax recommended for waxing a table saw &/or jointer top
Answer: Any kind of wax paste wax will work on bare metal to keep the rust off you just have to be sure to do it more than once in a while.
Question: After reading the reviews, i'm totally confused. i want to use this on annie sloan's old white, some say it's great, some say it's orangey and will ch
Answer: I have been working with chalk paint a lot and use this brand for finishing my projects. I like this brand, but I will not use this wax when my project is painted on a “bright white color” due that the finished will end with a very slightly amber touch, but if I paint my projects on an antique white color, I don’t hesite to use this clear wax, because I love the result. So my answer is YES it will work great on ASCP Old white (never on bright white)
Question: Is this wax clear? I need to apply it over a white paint
Answer: On any natural color grain wood, I would say it is 95 percent clear once buffed, and for woods not on the extreme range of the spectrum, (extremely dark or light), 99 percent clear. I wouldnt use on white painted wood if you required zero tinting though.

User questions & answers

Question: Would this be considered "food safe" for wood bowls, cutting boards, etc
Answer: The only ingredient listed is "Natural Bee's Wax." This is a wonderful product that cleans just about everything in my home.
Question: Can I use on wrought iron patio furniture to prevent rusting
Answer: I’m not sure I would wax a floor with this, it would be very slick. It’s a wonderful polish for furniture, mirrors and all other surfaces, but I would not use it on the floor!
Question: What are the ingredients
Answer: I'm not sure about filling them in, but they should be less visible. I used it on a dresser with a beat-up surface that hadn't been polished in years and it worked very well, even bringing some color back. There were spots wher the finish was pretty much gone, and the wax made them shine, but didn't do much on the color. I fixed the color (to an extent) using dark brown and tan shoe polish and buffing it with a cloth; it came out nicely (though not like the original). Next time I polish it, I'll use the Van's over it. I also used Van's on a Mission oak bookcase, and it did a much better job of helping to hide scratches (not obliterating them) and polishing than the Goddard's that I used earlier did. The Goddard's had left a white film (I probably used too much and didn't buff it in time), and the Van's dealt with it. Good stuff.
Question: How many cans are needed to polish an 18x24 manufactured hardwood floor
Answer: I have used it to condition, polish and shine my 150 year old elm wood desk. It is a very good furniture polish. The finest.

User questions & answers

Question: How many times does this have to be wiped and polished until it's not oily on the furniture anymore
Answer: I have used this product many times, in many locations, and have had no insect issues
Question: Where is this from, which country is it made in
Answer: It works well, this beeswax can polish my furniture. Although I haven't used beeswax before, I was still willing to try it. The effect surprised me. I think you can try it too.
Question: Does this attract insects
Answer: I wouldn’t use on wood items that will hold or touch food. It is a furniture polish. There are product’s specially designed for salad bowls etc.
Question: Is this beeswax furniture polish useful? Since I have never used this beeswax before, can it really add color to my furniture
Answer: Hello. This is a tough question to answer without more details. Our polish contains bees wax and mink oil that will certainly help to lubricate wrought iron and will HELP prevent rusting on it. We recommend it for wrought iron. However, if the furniture already has rust on it, it will not remove the rust. Other factors that come into play are the location where you live, the humidity where you live and the frequency that you would put the polish on the furniture. Once rust has started, you will want to treat it to stop the rust before applying our polish or any product to help prevent rust. Hope this info helps some!

User questions & answers

Question: What is the coverage per gallon
Answer: It is rather thick consistancy even when it is heated. We brush it on with a cheap chisel paint brush. We have been using this for years and love it. It works wonders.
Question: How do you clean wood floors with this
Answer: It can. It's not like floor wax, it's a conditioner. However, if you use it on something that's already sealed, it's not going to condition the wood, it's just going to make it slick. I use it on bare teak and it's great but I got some on our bathroom floor once and about killed myself slipping on it because the floor is already sealed and the conditioner made it like ice.
Question: How thick is it? Can it be sprayed on
Answer: Thanks for your question. Our beeswax is easy to wipe. Use a sponge or rag to apply a small amount of beeswax to the furniture evenly. When it dries(30 minutes), wipe and polish with a clean towel repeatedly. Deep nourishment needs to be left for about 15 hours, which is conducive to the penetration of beeswax into the wood.
Question: Does this make a wood floor slippery
Answer: I think is USA , but check on the item information

User questions & answers

Question: What is the area of coverage
Answer: Yes, this wood wax is made entirely from natural beeswax, safe and healthy. Thank you for your question.
Question: Is it sweet? Will it attract cockroach
Answer: It smells like kerosene. I bought mineral oil as well from a reputable seller and THAT mineral oil has no scent, but THIS Beewax nonsense smells like kerosene or turpentine. It absolutely reeks and now my whole house smells like kerosene.
Question: Is this food safe for wood cutting boards and charcuterie boards
Answer: I would say the gallon could cover about 1500-2000 square feet of surface. You never need to use a lot on the wood surface, a thin coat will be sufficient, if the wood is dry, let it set overnight to get the maximum penatration from the formula.
Question: What is the mineral oil derived from? Mineral oil is typically a "mystery ingredient" itself, typically from petroleum
Answer: NOT for floors!!!! Only wood tables ..., armor, cabinets

User questions & answers

Question: Does applying multiple coats help or is one enough
Answer: It is not clear. It is a yellowish green color in the jar, and appears clear when applied to finished wood. I have used it on unfinished wood as a simple waxing treatment/finishing layer and it does darken the wood a bit.
Question: antique mahogany
Answer: Unrefined Beeswax, Carnauba Wax, Olive Oil & Pure Essential Oils
Question: Is this clear? Can it be used on unfinished wood
Answer: I spot and line treated many places on our kitchen cabinets and haven't made a dent in the little container. I'm sure it would do a whole cabinet with some to spare
Question: can you please disclose full list of ingredients in this wax? Natural is good and all, but what about real list
Answer: No, it gives a honey scent, but the scent is not that strong. It will not attach cockroach. Thank you for your question.

User questions & answers

Question: I’ve stripped my dining table and don’t want to stain the top. Will this product protect the table top against condensation from glasses, etc
Answer: This wax is very soft and dries quickly. The key is to not overload the wax onto the furniture and to buff it out. It gives a nice shine to the furniture. I don't think it would soak into clothing even if you left some dry on the furniture, but I would try to rub it all out.
Question: I received the wax today and I don;t understand how to open it. Instructions are in Spanish or Italian. Can anyone help? Thank You
Answer: Don't know about unfinished floors. But I don't recommend it for finished floors. My floors were shinny and beautiful after using this, but was so slippery that I had to remove it and put down a non-slip rug. I did use this on an antique cabinet I refinished. I used just this product after removing the paint on it and it turned out beautiful.
Question: I'd like to use this on a set of chairs. Do I nend to worry about it soaking into clothing
Answer: Normally one coat would be sufficient. However, if you have a more significant problem, you may need multiple applications. I had to apply several times to work on a water stain that I thought would never be better. But eventually the beeswax did the trick. Also, as a bonusDaddy Van’s smells delightful.
Question: Ok for unfinished oak floors
Answer: If you are asking if Daddy Van's can be used on antique mahogany, then the answer is YES!

User questions & answers

Question: Would I need to remove old wax build up first before this product
Answer: I wouldn't use it on a painted surface - just on finished wood (varnished or stained). I don't believe it will ruin a painted crib - but what would be the point? Nothing is going to prevent paint from chipping off and scratching.
Question: Is your product 100% beeswax or a combination of beeswax and carnauba
Answer: I would not use it inside drawers, while I don't think it would be "sticky" if you didn't completely wipe the excess polish off it may get on your clothes.
Question: Does it work well and won't ruin a solid wood crib with a painted finish
Answer: No, this will melt and be a mess if you set a warm plate on it. Use polyurethane.
Question: Could you use this polish for inside wood dresser drawers? Would it get on your clothes leaving them sticky or oily
Answer: I did not realize that there were special instructions for opening the can. I believe that I used an old wood chisel.

User questions & answers

Question: Will this work on small scratches in vinyl plank floors
Answer: I don’t know how you define natural paste wax. This has been around for many years and is one of the best waxes for use on wood work and metal. I rate it as a top wax for a woodworker.
Question: are they permanate
Answer: Wax on... Wax off... Karate Kid
Question: Does this work on wood veneer kitchen cabinets? I have edges that have faded over time and the color is gone
Answer: If it's a wood veneer that has been finished, Trewax is a great option. Apply it, let it dry some and then buff it with a lint free rag. You'll have to reapply every now and then (yearly).
Question: The wax crayons don’t really work but if I buy the markers will that work better
Answer: There is no silicone in this product. I don't have the can in front of me but I remember specifically purchasing it to lubricate the feeds on my jointer and planer because it didn't have silicone which is known to cause problems when finishing the wood.

User questions & answers

Question: Can it be used on a smoking pipe
Answer: Yes it will harden, I melt 50% carnauba to 50% bees wax to make it more pliable. The more carnauba you use the more hard it becomes, the more bees was you use the more pliable. This 50/50 mixture I just use a spoon to get a bit out and rub it on.
Question: Would this work for the inside of a wooden wine glass
Answer: I have a 2006 Jeep with chrome running boards and it works great on them.
Question: does this work on leather? i need it to burnish the edges on my leather crafts
Answer: I doubt it, you can use a rubbing compound on the finish. On the window just a razor blade carefully. Wax isn't made to remove paint. Maybe weekend mineral spirits, then wax the color back
Question: Can I use this on wooden chopsticks
Answer: Possible but plastic isn’t the same as Paint Work -powder coated surfaces maybe ok -if it doesn’t work use it on your Car anyway it’s Brilliant cheers Kerry
