Question:	What is the difference between this and the SteamVac also by Hoover
Answer:	I have been comparing them to decide which one I want, this one (hoover Power Scrub) has automatic mixing of the detergent solution and the water, so you can choose a water only (rinse) or water with cleaning solution. The SteamVac, you must mix the solution in the water tank, so in order to rinse you would have to completely empty out the clean tank and then add just water. The power scrub only turns off the scrub brushes when the handle is in the upright and locked position. The scrub brushes on the SteamVac can be adjusted for gentle, normal, and off. They both use heated air on the dry (suction) strokes to help with drying. It looks like the SteamVac might be a little cheaper but then it doesn't come with all the attachments the power Scrub does. In fact it is a little vague on which attachments come with it. I checked the owners manual for both of these for this information. The Power Scrub is about 2 pounds lighter than the SteamVac. The assembly of the SteamVac seems a lot more involved. I think I am about sold on the Hoover Power Scrb Deluxe carpet cleaner.
Question:	can the brushes be shut off
Answer:	There is a rubber flap on the back of the dirty water tank. If you open that, it breaks the airflow that drives the brushes. It won't pick up liquid while the flap is open though, so I spray and scrub with it open, then seal the flap to extract liquid. I'm not sure if that is the purpose of the flap, but it works.
Question:	Do i have to rinse after i shampoo? seems like an annoying extra step. never had a carpet cleaner that did that
Answer:	If you think of shampooing your carpet like shampooing your hair, it makes sense to rinse. Adding shampoo to you hair and then stepping out of the shower might make your hair clean, but it's not going to be soft. Long ago (LONG ago) when I shampoo'd carpets as part of my job, we were taught to think of it as hair: (a) Lay down a bit of water first; (b) apply shampoo; (c) rinse it out. If the carpeted area was heavy traffic, do just like the shampoo bottle says -- apply a second bit of shampoo, work it in, and then rinse it out. Over the years I've ALWAYS done that when cleaning my own 2500 sq feet of WHITE carpet in my house, and it always comes out fluffy, soft, and white. Even with several black dogs.
Question:	Would you recommend for pet owners? I have 4 pets and wonder if the pieces are easy enough to take apart to remove hair that will surely accumulate
Answer:	This was my first scrubber for carpets. I broke my ankle soon after I got it, so I only got to use it 3 times. I thought it did a good job on open areas. I did not like how it did close to the edges of the carpet where it meets the wall. I used it on steps and it did fine. One thing I remember is hold the dirty water container tightly when you go to empty it or the dirty water can spill out all over your work that you've done. Once you have figured out how to assemble and take apart, it is fairly easy then. I liked the fact that it gets the water up fairly well. For the money, I am happy with it, I have two cats. Must mention it takes some strength to work on steps and edges, as I used a large toothbrush. But the latter doesn't have anything to do with the animals, I was just giving you my opin of the machine.

Question:	Is the carpet supposed to be completely clean when the water is completely clear
Answer:	If you are sucking up clear water, yes the area you are cleaning should be clean. However I let mine dry, pretreated it again and went back over it to make sure and the penetrate deeper. It seemed to work. My carpet had an older set in pet stain that I didn't find right away.
Question:	does it pick up pet urine
Answer:	You need an enzyme cleaner to completely break down pet urine. Especially for cats. If you don’t remove all of the urine, it will eventually start to smell again and could cause the pet to pee there in the future.
Question:	what is the total weight and motor capacity
Answer:	The thing weighs about 12 pounds. I don't know what you mean by motor capacity, but if you go over the same area too many times it'll pull the carpet fibers up. My office was a mess. I had Stanley steamer come in a year or so ago and they did an okay job. This thing was 99 bucks and in 20 minutes did a fantastic job. I have white carpets that were gray and now their white again.
Question:	does it come with the carpet shampoo
Answer:	While it comes with a smaller bottle (for one use), I ended up buying an oxy product specifically for pet urine and reshampooed the carpet. After drying, is now smells fresh.

Answer:	I have a cat so hair is a major problem for me. The Smartwash does pick up the hair and it can get stuck in the nozzle going to the dirty water tank. The brushes will stop. But it is fairly easy to clean both the nozzle and brushes. It is easy to disconnect the pieces to clean. This machine does a good job of cleaning. Instructions are clear and easy to follow. I do recommend that you follow the rinse instructions after using the cleaner. It rinses the carpet to remove the cleaning solution from the rug. All you do is remove the bottle with the cleaner solution and go over the carpet again with just clean water.

Answer:	So can we'd out who uses 5th grade math still and who doesn't.

Answer:	I have to say I was able to remove some light blood stain with just a few passes of my Hoover Carpet Shampooer with this in it so it should work on tea stain. For pre-treating and small "accidents" I use Fizzion cleaner since it isn't soapy and doesn't leave a residue. If you need to pre-treat I would suggest using that for heavy staining.
Question:	Can you use this on upholstery as well
Answer:	According to the label is says you should check the cleaning code on the furniture. Says not to use on silk, leather, velvet, vinyl or linen. Looks for code WS or W those are ok. Do not use on code X or S

Answer:	For auto mix machines (separate fresh water and cleaning solution tanks) that's a good question!The previous version of product (green container) also described as "2X" said to dilute 50/50 with water for the solution tank. This new version states on the container "for auto mix machines fill the solution tank" No mention of diluting! I emailed Hoover. Rochelle at customer service answered "All our solutions are concentrated solutions. They should be diluted. Usually depending on the model of the machine use 2-3 oz in the solution tank and then fill the rest with water." So take your pick... the lable or Hoover customer service.

Question:	What does this smell like
Answer:	Really not much of a smell at all. I tried this once but found that it did not remove the stain to my satisfaction. You may think the stain is gone but if you wait until the carpet is dry, and with a UV flashlight walk around in a darkened room at night you'll see every spot illuminates brightly. telling you the stain is still there. I use "Capture Pet Stain and Odor Neutralizer". and even then it may take several applications with a shampooer for the stain to be completely gone. Urine is hard to remove from carpet, and the only way to truly tell if its still in your carpet is to walk around in a darkened room and illuminate the area with a UV flashlight. Amazon sells them for around ten to fifteen dollars and are a must have if have pets. Good luck and if you find something better please let me know. I've tried at least a half dozen brands and the Capture is the best.

Answer:	When the shampooer is in cleaning position it is 16 inches high. If your coffee table from the floor to the top is that high or higher it will clean under it. That is a table with no shelving.

Answer:	I would say it depends on how "old" the stains are. There are stain solutions out there that would certainly help the machine get rid of the stain. Also could take several applications and cleanings to help with that. The machine certainly brightened my rug and the dirt it removed was incredible! My rug is an off white and gray distressed pattern so it brightened from extracting all the dirt but there isn't alot of color to it. I am thoroughly happy with this machine purchase!

Question:	Can you clean an entire (small) room with this (appx 10'x
Answer:	You could, but it would be quite a chore. This is a spot cleaner not intended for cleaning the carpet in an entire room. For that large of an area you would want an upright rug cleaner. Even a light duty upright would be better for such an area than this Hoover Spotless.
Question:	How does this compare to the spot bot
Answer:	Overall like the spot bot better, have both, use bot more often, just easier.
Question:	How does this do on pet stains
Answer:	It works great. I fill a sprayer with boiling hot water, use a carpet detergent to loosen the stain, and the spot scrubber to lift it from the item so stained. The sprayer is used just ahead of the spot scrubber vacuum tool and all of the gunk goes into the easily dumpable tank. I put distilled water in the wash tank and finish with that so no dissolved mineral residue remains (which sometimes makes a ring when the cleaned item drys). Works great and easy to clean (use a little of the boiling water followed with a distilled water flush).

Question:	My rug is on hard wood floor. Will this damage the wood if I use it to clean the rug on top of the hard wood floor
Answer:	If the carpet has the standard ~1/2 foam padding underneath I would guess your ok. The cleaner doesn't soak the carpets that much since it dries very quickly. Also, if you have a good poly or varnish seal on the wood floors below that would be a plus too. I'd do a two x two foot square test in a corner where you can pull up the carpet and padding if you already have the machine and see what happens. Old oxidized bare wood floors under area rugs without padding may be a problem. The type of Hoover cleaning fluid you use should make no difference though. (Pet vs. Free clear, etc..)

Answer:	I don’t know about wool carpet because I’m allergic to wool so my carpet is synthetic but I have used it on that and finished with a vinegar and water rinse. It cleaned very well

Answer:	I'm not sure that I would say it has zero smell, but it has ALMOST no smell. I thought it smelled fresh immediately after I used it, and the light scent faded by the time it was dry.
