These however are black, which will draw more heat; BUT, I let the sun shine on my batteries for testing purposes to see what would happen in direct sun. The batteries are not in open sun in use. Bottom line is that batteries get hotter in an AC charger than they do in the sun because the sun charges slower.

Answer:	I used a battery charger, but they didn't work in my lights. I did use them in another solar item and they worked okay. You would think the sun would charge them. I would not recommend.

Answer:	Yes you can. It will double the charge capacity of the new batteries which will result in double the burning time. Make sure it's the same voltage and the same physical dimensions.

Answer:	I have these batteries in sidewalk lights, for about 5 months so far so good. Check you umbrella lights and see if it uses Ni Cad or lithium batteries. They are not the same or interchangeable. Hope this helps.
