7 best otc antacids

Over-the-counter (OTC) antacids are medications commonly used to relieve symptoms of heartburn, indigestion, and acid reflux. They are available without a prescription and can be purchased at most drugstores and supermarkets. Here are some key points about OTC antacids:

  1. Purpose: OTC antacids are primarily used to neutralize excess stomach acid. They are effective at providing quick relief from symptoms such as heartburn, sour stomach, and acid indigestion.

  2. Mechanism of Action: Antacids work by raising the pH level in the stomach, reducing its acidity. This helps alleviate symptoms by neutralizing the acid that is causing discomfort.

  3. Active Ingredients: Common active ingredients in OTC antacids include aluminum hydroxide, magnesium hydroxide, calcium carbonate, and sodium bicarbonate. These ingredients differ in their onset of action and duration of relief.

  4. Forms: OTC antacids come in various forms, including tablets, chewable tablets, liquid suspensions, and effervescent tablets. The choice of form depends on personal preference and convenience.

  5. Dosage: Follow the instructions on the product label for proper dosage. It's important not to exceed the recommended dose, as excessive use of antacids can lead to side effects or mask underlying medical conditions.

  6. Duration of Use: OTC antacids are generally safe for short-term use. If you have frequent or persistent symptoms, it's advisable to consult a healthcare professional, as they may recommend further evaluation and prescription medications.

  7. Side Effects: While OTC antacids are considered safe when used as directed, they can cause side effects such as diarrhea or constipation, especially if taken in excess. Some antacids may also interact with other medications you may be taking.

  8. Special Considerations: If you have specific health conditions or are pregnant or breastfeeding, it's important to consult a healthcare provider before using OTC antacids to ensure they are safe and appropriate for you.

  9. Preventive Measures: Lifestyle changes, such as avoiding trigger foods, eating smaller meals, and not lying down immediately after eating, can help reduce the need for antacids in some cases.

  10. Storage: Store OTC antacids according to the instructions on the product label, typically at room temperature, and away from moisture and heat.

Remember that while OTC antacids can provide temporary relief from digestive discomfort, chronic or severe symptoms may indicate an underlying medical issue. It's always advisable to seek medical advice if symptoms persist or worsen.

Question: i want to know this product from P&G? and the photo show "product of Sweden" or Origin: Imported (India
Answer: There is a long answer to this on their website under “product-specific questions.”
Question: Is this product in blister packs? I refuse to buy anything in these frustrating packages. If it is bottles, OK. Thanks for your reply
Answer: Yes. But this works better for some reason. For 15 years, I've been taking prevacid and zantac EVERY DAY. I take a daily med that causes this. One day I was bike riding w my teen son. I had horrible heartburn and we were too far from home to go back. The only store was whole foods. I'll be honest, I was super skeptical but also desperate so I bought these and one tablet worked wonders. I am now taking one a night and haven't taken my OTC meds in a week. Oh and also, tums didn't usually work for me so there must be something abt the herbal blend that helps.

Why Choose Prilosec OTC?

Prilosec OTC (24HR) reduces stomach acid production by shutting down many of the pumps in the stomach that produce acid, so you don't get heartburn in the first place.*

It's possible while taking Prilosec OTC. Use as directed for 14 days to treat frequent heartburn. Do not take for more than 14 days or more often than every 4 months unless directed by a doctor. Not for immediate relief.

Acid Controllers

Acid controllers, or H2 Blockers (12HR), only partially reduce acid production by blocking just one of the signals that tell your body to produce acid. Relief starts in as little as 30 minutes, but only lasts 8-12 hours.

Antacids

Antacids (3HR) neutralize the acid in the esophagus that causes heartburn, but do not reduce the production of stomach acid. Relief is immediate, but only lasts for 1-3 hours.

User questions & answers

Question: what is the expiration date
Answer: Comunícate con servicio al cliente de Amazon ellos te ayudarán con tu pedido
Question: Do the capsules open easily
Answer: In 3 small bottles, each containing 14 20mg. capsules.
Question: Is this magnesium trihydrate as nexium or dihydrate
Answer: Yes it does. Researched a number of sites re that same question, including drugs.com, webmd and pfizer. The only diff is that OTC is 20 mg instead of the 40 mg prescription. So if you need to take 40, just double up. It's still cheaper! From what I gather, 20 mg is intended for maintenance...whereas 40 is for healing. I was taking 40 for many yrs prescription until ins co stopped coverage, and I AM THRILLED it's now OTC. Nothing helps me like Nexium, and I gave all the classes...generic and brand in each class...a patient try. And suffered. I'm trying 20 Nexium but will see. Have GERD and hiatal hernia, so may need to double up. Good luck!
Question: If you do subscribe and save, does this stabilize pricing
Answer: The pharmacist is the one who showed me where to get the OTC Nexium, since I don't have prescription insurance. The cost of the prescription was $200. The cost of the OTC (at that pharmacy) was $46 (that's with having to take 2 OTC rather than 1 prescription). The pharmacist told me it's exactly the same except for the price.

Product features

Proton Pump Inhibitors (PPIs)

PPIs are for people with frequent heartburn that occurs two or more days per week. PPIs deactivate the pumps in the stomach lining from producing acid, significantly inhibiting acid production at the source. When taken every four months as a 14-day course treatment, Amazon Basic Care Esomeprazole Magnesium provides up to 24 hours of relief.

Acid Reducers (H2s)

Acid reducers provide relief for 6-12 hours by inhibiting histamine—a substance that stimulates secretion of stomach acid—to partially block production of acid in the stomach cells. Taken an hour before a meal, histamine H2-receptor antagonists (H2 blockers) work to relieve and prevent heartburn associated with meal-induced acid indigestion.

Antacids

Antacids provide quick but temporary relief by neutralizing stomach acid to relieve heartburn. They work quickly to help occasional short-term heartburn pain resulting from spicy foods or over-eating.

Common heartburn triggers

Heartburn is a painful, burning sensation in the lower chest or throat that occurs when stomach acid backs up and irritates the sensitive lining of the esophagus. Food that is acidic, spicy, rich and fatty, as well as caffeinated beverages, alcohol and dairy products can trigger frequent heartburn episodes.

Long-lasting, 24-hour relief

Heartburn can be a painful distraction when you need to focus. One capsule per day provides 24 hour relief of heartburn symptoms.*

*Use as directed for 14 days for treating frequent heartburn. Not intended for immediate relief of heartburn; this drug may take 1 to 4 days for full effect.

Never miss a moment

Imagine your life uninterrupted by heartburn. What do you see? Perhaps experiencing new culinary delights while on vacation, or enjoying special moments with family and friends. Amazon Basic Care Esomeprazole Magnesium will help you forget about heartburn pain so you can savor each moment.*

User questions & answers

Question: Manufactured from where
Answer: Each "pack" contains 42 pills. The 5 pack should contain 210 pills. However, $24.99 for a 5 pack is a mistake that the vendor needs to correct. I reported this problem to Amazon. Also I noticed that more than one vendor sells from this page.
Question: Can you cut this in half to make it 10mg dose
Answer: It works differently on everyone's shipping model. Some people will charge 17.00 free shipping and others charge 11 for the product and 5.99 for shipping. It's the same exact price it's just how shipping is set up. The best way to know the lowest price including shipping is by seeing all offers. The one at the top is the cheapest typically. They factor shipping into that as well
Question: When is the expiration date
Answer: It is high-rise. It could come up to belly button or it could cover belly button slightly.
Question: is this better than Nexium
Answer: No, there is no lining in the crotch.

Answer: Expiration dates are determined by when the product is ordered but all sellers comply with Amazon policies.
Question: Your ad says 84-count but it only shows 1 box and doesn't say it is 2 boxes? Please correct your ad
