Answer:	I own several of these pads for my elderly dog. And one of my small businesses is medicinal perfumes (I make and sell perfumes with medical purposes): my nose is exquisitely sensitive. My nose says that these pads do not contain any formaldehyde. I would definitely be able to smell that as it has a very distinctive odor. (Think embalming fluid!) Hope this helps.

Answer:	The ones I bought in Dec 2019 were decidedly NOT waterproof. I thought at first urine must have leaked out the side or something, but I tried them multiple times with my incontinent dog and they were a complete fail.

Answer:	That's totally up to you. I don't recall there being a label advising one way or the other. I tend to wash most items before using that come in contact with the skin. However, I have placed the pads under the top sheet on the bed and under a seat cover on a chair, and in these instances did not wash before use.
