3 best creams for scars
Creams for scars are topical products designed to help reduce the appearance of scars resulting from injuries, surgeries, burns, or other skin-related trauma. These creams are commonly available over-the-counter and may contain various ingredients aimed at promoting the healing process and improving the cosmetic appearance of scars. Here are some key points about creams for scars:
Silicone-Based Creams: Silicone is a common ingredient in scar creams. Silicone-based creams create a barrier over the scar, helping to hydrate the skin and maintain an ideal environment for healing. They are also believed to help flatten and soften the scar tissue.
Vitamin E: Vitamin E is often included in scar creams for its potential antioxidant properties, which may aid in skin repair. However, there is limited scientific evidence to support its effectiveness in scar reduction.
Onion Extract: Some scar creams contain onion extract, which is believed to have anti-inflammatory properties and promote collagen production, aiding in scar remodeling.
Hyaluronic Acid: Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in the skin that helps maintain moisture. Scar creams containing hyaluronic acid aim to hydrate the scar tissue and improve its appearance.
Cortisone or Steroids: In some cases, dermatologists may prescribe scar creams containing cortisone or other steroids to reduce inflammation and redness in scars, particularly keloid or hypertrophic scars.
Sunscreen Component: Many scar creams also contain sunscreen components, as exposure to UV rays can darken and worsen the appearance of scars.
Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs): AHAs, such as glycolic acid, may be included in some scar creams to help exfoliate the top layer of skin and promote the growth of new, healthier skin cells.
Expectations: It's important to have realistic expectations when using scar creams. While they can often help improve the appearance of scars, complete removal is rarely possible. The effectiveness of scar creams can vary from person to person and depends on factors like the type of scar and its age.
Application: Follow the instructions on the product label for the proper application of scar creams. Typically, you should apply the cream to clean, dry skin and massage it into the scar gently. Consistency in application is key to achieving potential benefits.
Consult a Dermatologist: For severe scars or if you're unsure about which scar cream to use, consult a dermatologist or healthcare professional. They can recommend appropriate treatments or procedures, such as laser therapy or surgical scar revision, if necessary.
Remember that not all scar creams will work for everyone, and results may vary. Patience and consistent use are essential when trying to reduce the appearance of scars. If you have concerns about a specific scar or are looking for personalized advice, it's always best to consult a healthcare professional or dermatologist for guidance.

User questions & answers
Question: | Hi, can you tell me the expiration date the cream? please thanks you |
Answer: | I have never checked. I use it periodically, maybe 1-3 evenings then not until I feel I need to apply again. I am sure if I used it daily for a week, I would not have any spots/freckles anymore. One of the most important things is to use sun screen daily or you will get them back slowly. Also, a tidbit, I add baby diaper rash ointment containing 40% zinc oxide to my sun screen as the zinc oxide really blocks the damaging sun effects. |
Question: | Can it work for 6 years old kid? The scar is on my son’s face |
Answer: | Yes, It fade the dark spot which is from the acne scars. |
Question: | Is it work for hypopigmented scars |
Answer: | I have been using for years. I am brown skin. It neither whitens or lightens. It evens your skin tone and makes it look brighter. The hydroquinone helps to fade dark spots from acne and, homormal changes. |
Question: | What if I have a scar that is 20 years old? Appendix removal |
Answer: | Hi,Since lactic acid is listed at an inactive ingredient, the exact concentration is unknown. Inactive ingredients are any ingredients that the FDA does not consider “active.” While such ingredients still must have an established record of safety, they are not regulated in the same manner as active ingredients, nor does the FDA require such ingredients to be proven safe prior to use. Instead, the major requirement is that "inactive" ingredients be listed in descending order of concentration; therefore, the ingredient with the largest concentration is listed first, then the next largest, and so forth, if present at a concentration of at least 1% in the product. Ingredients present at concentrations less than 1%, however, can be listed in any order thereafter. |

Before
I had taken a nasty fall trying to rush back to my apartment one night in the winter of 2011. I had sprained my ankle and scraped my knee very bad that I left a trail of blood from the curb at which I had fallen, up the stairs and into my apartment. I was really worried about the deep scrape on my knee.
After
My friend suggested I use Mederma having recently used it on a scar of her own she's had for years. After my wound healed, I gave it a shot and I am so glad I did. In fact, my boyfriend had a similar wound on his knee from a track event around the same time I had my wound. Four months later his scar is still very visible, while my scar is virtually impossible to see!

User questions & answers
Question: | does it work on old acne scars |
Answer: | Yes. I have noticed tremendous improvement. It does take time and continued use. I also use Bio Oil and Perfect Image Revitaboost Peel Pads-Level 2. |
Question: | Do you use moisturizer with this |
Answer: | I don't. I have sensitive, easily dried out skin. I use Stridex pads, which dry my skin, followed up with this product. I put this on my entire face instead of a moisturizer and it works great. If I have too much oil on my face, I break out. This does not make me break out but instead helps prevent it along with the Stridex. 100% recommend this product. |
Question: | How long does this bottle last (approx- if used as recommended nightly)? Is there any sort of scent |
Answer: | I think I've been using it about a month and I've just run out, but I'm only putting it on a few small areas. I am using it once or twice daily. It has a light herbal scent but nothing too noticeable. |
Question: | Will this work on my acne scars ? I have a few |
Answer: | I have only used it on a new surgery scar and it worked wonders. It takes a long time tho, I have been using it for 5 months and will continue using it. |

Caring for scars
Wounds to the skin and tissue can heal on their own over time. But scars will remain after those wounds heal.
Types of care for scars:
Once you have a scar, it will not go away completely. However, proper care can help wounds heal with less scarring. And once the wound has closed, you can take steps to help improve how a scar looks or feels.
Talk to your doctor about how to care for your skin to reduce the appearance of scarring, and about what you can expect for any scar care he or she may recommend.
Non-Prescription Products:
Depending on the cause and type of scar, different products can help manage different concerns like pinkness or redness, for example. Others can help improve the appearance of a scar in other ways.
In-office care your doctor may suggest
For scars that cause pain, discomfort or limit your ability to move easily, your family doctor, plastic surgeon or a dermatologist (a doctor who specializes in skin conditions) has many options to care for you. For the best possible results when caring for scars, be sure to follow the directions of your doctor and those on the labels of any products you use.
Directions:
Mederma PM Intensive Overnight Scar Cream should be evenly applied and gently massaged into the scar until fully absorbed once nightly for 8 weeks on newer scars and 3-6 months on older scars. Results take time:
Don’t get discouraged if you don’t see improvement right away. Generally, Mederma PM users start to see noticeable improvement within 2-4 weeks of use and optimum improvement in 8 weeks, but every scar is different, so yours may take a bit more time.
Mederma PM is available in a 1 oz. tube in the first aid aisle and a 1.7 oz jar in the skin care aisle.

User questions & answers
Question: | how is it for older scars |
Answer: | It's pretty much the same, SO FAR... Directions say to use 3-4x a day for older scars for 6months or longer... My old scar is a little lighter but still the same... But im holding on to hope... Hopefully that answers your a question :) good luck! |
Question: | My box was sealed but the tube did not have a seal. Did anyone have a seal on the tube of this product |
Answer: | No the tube doesn’t have a seal I have been using it over a year purchased min 6 tubes in tidal thanks |
Question: | Will it help with old facial dark spots |
Answer: | No, I don't think so. It didn't help for my fresh scar from surgery, either. I have been using it for thrre months now with no improvement. |
Question: | Will this help with 10 year old deep scars |
Answer: | Yes, I have scars from 40 years ago that it makes a difference. However, the older the scar, the longer it takes to get rid of it. I'm on about a year on the oldest ones and while they are better, they are not gone yet. (about half). Note: I don't use it everyday. I have found on new scars that once every other day, even every 3rd day is fine. I think the "once daily" thing is just to sell more product. On new scars where I can monitor them very well, I've never found them to heal any faster every day vs every other day or even every third day. |
