14 best menstrual cup for young girls

Menstrual cups are an eco-friendly and cost-effective alternative to traditional menstrual products like pads and tampons. They are not limited by age, so young girls can use them as well, provided they are comfortable with the concept and have started menstruating. Here's what you should know about menstrual cups for young girls:

  1. Size and Age: Menstrual cups come in various sizes, often labeled as small or large. Young girls who have just started menstruating or have a light flow may find smaller cups more comfortable and easier to insert. Manufacturers often provide guidelines for choosing the right size based on age and flow.

  2. Material: Menstrual cups are typically made from medical-grade silicone, rubber, latex, elastomer, or TPE (thermoplastic elastomer). Silicone cups are a popular choice because they are hypoallergenic and easy to clean. Ensure the material is safe for your child's use.

  3. Insertion and Removal: Using a menstrual cup requires some practice. Young girls may need guidance and patience to learn how to insert and remove the cup properly. It's essential to teach them proper hygiene and washing techniques.

  4. Comfort and Fit: Menstrual cups should be comfortable when inserted correctly. If your child experiences discomfort or leakage, it might be a sign that the cup is not the right size or not positioned correctly. Experimenting with different folds and techniques can help find a comfortable fit.

  5. Cleaning and Maintenance: Proper cleaning and maintenance are crucial. Cups should be sterilized before the first use and between cycles. Young girls should be taught how to clean their cups to prevent infections and ensure longevity.

  6. Duration of Use: Menstrual cups can be worn for up to 12 hours, making them convenient for school or other activities. However, it's essential to emphasize the importance of not leaving the cup in for more than the recommended time to prevent complications.

  7. Menstrual Cup Benefits: Menstrual cups are eco-friendly because they reduce waste compared to disposable products. They can also be more cost-effective in the long run. Additionally, they don't contain harmful chemicals often found in tampons or pads.

  8. Support and Education: It's essential for young girls to have a supportive environment when transitioning to menstrual cups. Parents or guardians should offer guidance, answer questions, and provide reassurance.

  9. Consult a Healthcare Professional: If your child has any specific medical conditions or concerns, it's advisable to consult a healthcare professional before using a menstrual cup.

Overall, menstrual cups can be a suitable option for young girls when they are ready to explore alternative menstrual products. The key is to ensure they receive proper education, support, and guidance throughout the learning process to make their transition comfortable and safe.

A copa menstrual seals against the walls of the vagina and catches all the fluid that comes out of the uterus.

The Silicone menstrual cup is first folded or pinched and then inserted into the vagina.

Medical-Grade Silicone Period cups are safe when used as directed and no health risks related to their use have been found.

Question: Ive used both cups but you gotta fold it to put it in, problem is how do i get it to unfold when its all in
Answer: 65% polyester 20% cotton 15%spandexThat's what it says on the tag. They are like very thick tights or very stretchy leggings.
Question: I could never wear tampon. Would this work
Answer: they are footless tights
Question: For those of us who have endometriosis, would this be difficult to use
Answer: do not buy these!! I did and they are not even Naartjie, there is no tag of any kind stating what brand these are. And they pilled horribly after the first wash. Total waste of money.

User questions & answers

Question: I've used divacup in the past and found it to be too large and uncomfortable. what is the diameter of this cup? is it good for a high cervix
Answer: The LENA Small measures 41mm (1.6 inches) in diameter, while the LENA Large measures 45mm (1.8 inches) in diameter. LENA's unique bell shape works very well for people of all body types and cervix heights. We also offer the LENA Sensitive line of cups for those with sensitive anatomies.
Question: How do i know what size to get
Answer: The poster Laura Funk is incorrect; LENA states on their website: "Unlike other brands, at LENA we do not believe that age and birthing history play a significant role in choosing a menstrual cup. Mothers with multiple births are happily using LENA Small while teenagers, with a heavy flow, choose LENA Large. Most people can wear either size LENA Cup but choose one over the other primarily based on flow amount, cervix height and general physique." I have had a child and use the small cup with no issues.
Question: Do you ever need to sanitize the cup? Diva Cup, for example, suggests that you boil the cup to completely sanitize it
Answer: We recommend boiling your cup for five minutes to sanitize it before use and between cycles, if you wish.
Question: What is the difference between the Lena Sensitive small cup and a regular small cup
Answer: LENA Sensitive are the same shape, size and design as the Classic LENA Cups, but are made from a slightly softer silicone for those with sensitive anatomies.

Product features

why choose Lena Sensitive?

If you are a first time cup user, and have a sensitive anatomy, we recommend that you choose Lena Small Sensitive unless you have a super heavy flow. Lena Large Sensitive is ideal for experienced users looking for added capacity and for all users who have a super heavy flow.

  • AWARD-WINNING - OrganiCup has been awarded “Product of the Year” twice and received the “Excellence Award” from BuyMeOnce in the sustainability category.

User questions & answers

Question: is this okay to use with the IUD Paragard
Answer: The OrganiCup is placed low at the base of the vaginal canal and away from the cervix. This means that it shouldn’t interfere with an IUD. However, you should always make sure to release the suction seal when you're removing the cup. We have written a blog about using the cup with an IUD: https://www.organicup.com/blog/iud-and-menstrual-cup/ As with any other gynaecological concern, we'd always recommend you talk with your gynaecologist before you start using a cup with an IUD. best Maria, OrganiCup
Question: Does size a work for high cervixes
Answer: Bigger cup. According to my doc, I have an “average” cervix (I think I have a high one), and the small size is tricky to get out. Get. The. Bigger. Cup. It’s just longer and a tad wider at the opening.
Question: does the cup come squished? the box looks more narrow than the cup in the photos
Answer: Yes!, but since the cup is very flexible, it will only take 5-10 minutes for the cup to find its natural shape after being removed from the packaging.
Question: How does it hold up for those who gym and lift heavy weights - use a lot of bearing down
Answer: It would actually *not* be very messy! As a user, I can confirm that bearing down does not break the seal on its own, and you can't push the cup out by bearing down. I lift, swim, and do yoga and have never had a problem leaking while doing either! In fact, I feel more comfortable working out with the cup; it feels like it's not actually my period at all and I don't have to deal with pad chafing or tampon leaks!

User questions & answers

Question: Isn’t this supposed to arrive in a box? Cause I got mine in the carry bag that was in an open plastic bag
Answer: This kit was purchased for my 19 year old daughter. She said she thinks it would work fine for any age.
Question: Is the large small one of each cup size or just one cup
Answer: Use the C-fold for insertion. The C-fold is a simple fold that you can do with one hand, and that allows the cup to pop open easily. You may also want to use a little bit of our Pixie Cup Lube to make insertion easier. After you insert the cup, run a clean finger around the rim of the cup (the top). As you do, you may feel some folds or indentations. If you feel folds, grab the base of the cup and gently twist the cup in a circular motion. Turn the cup one full rotation. This will help it pop open and form a seal.
Question: Cuantas copas trae
Answer: Yes, absolutely. This kit includes the Small Pixie Cup which is perfect for first-time cup users. We've had so many customers who went straight from pad to cups without ever using a tampon. It might be more intimidating for you so if you ever need any help or assistance, feel free to contact us on Instagram or our website!
Question: How many ml do the L cup hold
Answer: YES! Depending on how heavy your flow is, you might have to empty your cup more often, but it is completely safe to use a period cup if you suffer from endometriosis. If you have any other concerns just consult your dr first

Product description

As a girl/woman, you have no choice but to have periods, but you do not have to endure the discomfort from wearing a disposable pad or tampon: the leakage, drying, dampness, chemicals, etc. Now you can actually enjoy your periods! This wonderful period starter kit lets you experience the amazing benefits from using reusable menstrual cups and pads. You can either just start with cloth period pads or use both. The cloth period pads can absorb more liquid than disposable pads, therefore you don’t need to change as often, and also feel more comfort, less dampness. The top layer of the black menstrual pads is made of bamboo charcoal, it's pretty easy to wash, just soak used pad in cold water as soon as you can to prevent stains from setting in. When you are new to using a menstrual cup, you may want to wear both a cloth pad and a cup together in case of leakage before you get the hang of it. Once you get the hang of it, you will find it rarely leaks. On the days when you don’t feel like fussing with a period cup, you can just wear a cloth pad. Both reusable cloth pads and menstrual cups are healthier and more comfortable to wear! Get this period starter kit and try it out for yourself, if for any reason you are not happy with your purchase, we offer 100% money back guarantee.

  • A great starter kit to start your journey to happier periods! 4 reusable bamboo charcoal cloth menstrual pads and 1 small wet bag!

User questions & answers

Question: does the size only matter in terms of flow or if you are over 30 will a small fall out and a large is needed
Answer: Even though age could play a role when selecting your cup, at LENA we believe that there are a couple of more important factors. Due to LENA cups' ergonomic design, most women can successfully use either size but choose one over the other depending on their flow, cervix height (can your vagina support the length of LENA Large,) and general physique. If you your flow is light to normal we generally recommend LENA Small, regardless of age. Our small cup is also great for women with lower cervixes and teenagers due to its compact size, gentler rim and high collection capacity. We recommend LENA Large for women of all age with normal to heavy flow. Our large cup is very comfortable and also has a soft rim which offers an easy and pain-free insertion. If you are over 30 but have a light flow, you can successfully use LENA Small.
Question: Do you feel the cup while wearing it
Answer: As I have post on another question... On my very first try of this product (and very first time EVER using a cup excluding the nightmare softcup trial) I danced with my toddler, went to physical therapy (movement like yoga) went swimming afterward. I made sure to dive, flip under the water and even walked on my hands in the pool my legs straight up in the air and I did this vigorously and repeatedly just to test the Lena cup! Then I took a nap on the sofa. Later after 8 hrs of total use I removed the cup. There was no leak and no mess with removal. plus it was only about half full. So I cleansed it reinserted it using the 7 fold and slept in it. I am a very uneasy sleeper. meaning I turn all over the place. I turn constantly from my back to either one of my sides and I almost always turn onto my stomach a least twice a night... This said I never felt it and Im wearing now and I dont even notice it. And I have a low cervix so its not too high up in me either. Its makes you feel natural as if you arent even on your period.I have to add this is my 2nd day trying this product I have never used a cup besides one day trial of instead softcups (that you can feel and the overall experience was a nightmare) With Lena I only felt it once when I first was trying to figure out how to insert it. It took me about ten times of removing and inserting to feel I definitely had a feel for what to do but looking back I honestly think I had it right by the 2nd or 3rd time. Self doubting myself was what made me keeping trying by the 8th try I put it too far up for my body and that was the only time I "felt" it. I wasnt painful but just a little uncomfortable with a slight bit of uneasy pressure. But it was a good thing it made me feel uneasy. It actually boosted my confidence that I had been doing it correctly that whole time before. That one time of doing it wrong was what I needed to let me know for sure how it needs to be done correctly and what not to do. I realize there was no need to shove it as far as I could up inside me lol. Then I practiced a 9th time and on the 10th I was more than confident I had it right.
Question: How would I know which size cup to buy
Answer: Most women can wear either LENA cup and choose one size over the other primarily based on their blood flow amount, cervix height and general physique. Age and birthing history could play a role as well.Generally, women with light / normal flow choose LENA Small and women with normal / heavy flow choose LENA Large. We recommend first-time cup users to start with LENA Small. Our small cup is also ideal for young women and teenagers. LENA Small works great for women with low / medium cervix height, while women with high cervix can wear either size LENA cups.
Question: Is there a reason the holes are angled or is it just aesthetics
Answer: To add to what others have said, for some reason the angled holes are so much easier to clean than straight holes.

why choose Lena?

If you are a first time cup user, we recommend that you choose Lena Small unless you have a super heavy flow. Lena Large is ideal for experienced users looking for added capacity and for all users who have a super heavy flow.

User questions & answers

Question: im a small person never given birth my period is normal i have no idea where my cervix lies what size would i get
Answer: It sounds like a size Small would be a great place to start, but we highly encourage you to measure your cervix. Those with a high cervix find that a size Regular is easier to remove as the body of the cup is longer and easier to reach. Check out our website and YouTube channel to learn how to measure your cervix!
Question: Bought one at the end of November, the stem broke off while removing it. Is there a way to get it replaced or do I need to repurchase
Answer: Not positive about the replacement, but the stem isn’t supposed to be used for removal. It is there to help you check for a suction seal and locate the cup. Pinching the bottom of the cup breaks the seal for removal and then you hold there to pull the cup out of you.
Question: Does the Saalt cup wash come with it? Or is that a separate purchase
Answer: Great question! When you order a Saalt Soft it comes with the cup specified in the order and a cute cloth bag to store your cup in when not in use. The Saalt Wash is a separate item and as such would need to be purchased separately.
Question: Is this product cruelty free
Answer: Great question! Yes! Saalt Cups are not tested on animals (unless some of our friends and family count. 😉 Bad joke, we know.)

User questions & answers

Question: I purchased the mini soft and it came today. I should have followed your recommendation of a medium. How do I go about exchanging it
Answer: I know that as soon as I messaged the seller they were more than happy to send me out a replacement in the correct size without requiring an exchange (I think for sanitary reasons) they really want you to be satisfied with their product and now im much happier with my Medium cup and I have a small for light days but really I mostly just use my medium I think it creates a better seal for my body☺️
Question: How wide is the cup
Answer: Thank you for your question! We measured the finished product. We try our best not to squeeze the material while measuring and did measure 40mm to 41mm. We will forward the request to re-measure and update the images if needed, as we try to be as accurate as possible:) Every millimeter counts; hence thank you for measuring the cup as well Terry.
Question: How soft is the soft when compared to a Lunette model
Answer: I didn't find this cup to be that soft. I was comparing it to the Intimina Lily cup original. I found I'm not a cup person though they all seemed uncomfortable to me. I had much better luck with the Nixit Disk NOW that is soft and so comfortable you don't even feel it.
Question: Is this smaller than the small lena cup
Answer: Yes
