Maybe you purchased in the middle of summer and the test strip were exposed to high temperatures, I assume your hands were clean with soap and water and not a hand sanitizer. Warm Tips to Get an Accurate Testing Result:

1. Before blood collection, wash your hands with warm water or neutral soap and rub the finger for blood collection repeatedly until the blood volume is rich.

2. You could disinfect finger abdomen with 75% alcohol, collect blood after alcohol evaporated.

3. Before each test, make sure that the surface of strip is free from moisture or other contamination, and avoid touching the blood sampling area of the strip.

4. Close the cap of the vial immediately after taking out the strip. It is best to use the strip within 3 minutes of taking it out.

5. After the blood drop is formed, wipe off the first drop, collect the subsequent one to test.

6. Make sure enough blood is collected at one time, don't add blood for a second time.

7. If it didn't bleed after pricking your finger, or the blood is insufficient, it is best to hang your hand naturally and wait for 5 seconds. If necessary, squeeze from the center of the palm to the fingertips. Do not directly squeeze the fingertips. Or adjust the depth of the lancing device to collect blood again.

8. Take turns to collect blood from different fingers. Blood collection on the ventral side of the finger is not only less painful, but also adequate.

· After inserting your test strip, make sure the code number on the test strip bottle and your display screen are the same. You don’t want to accidentally use MISMATCHED test strips!

· Once you’ve removed a strip from the bottle, close it IMMEDIATELY because leaving it open will damage the strips

1. Prior to testing, use lukewarm water to wash the area from which the blood sample is to be obtained, or wipe it clean with alcohol.

• Foreign substances can interfere with precision of blood measurements, due to contamination.

2. Wipe away the blood that first emerges, then use the next blood drop for testing.

3. Immediately take a measurement, after blood has been obtained from the fingertip.

• Once a blood drop forms, delay in testing will make results inaccurate.
• In case a blood drop does not form, do not squeeze the finger forcefully, but rather adjust the lancing device level upward to a greater number, then lance again.

4. Blood must be collected into the test strip at one time.

• Do not touch the test strip end to the blood multiple times.
• Blood must not be placed onto the test strip, but rather wicked up into the open edge.

5. After taking a test strip out of the bottle for use, be sure to close the cap immediately.

• Use as soon as possible any test strip taken out for use.
• Before testing, be careful not to let any foreign matter into the blood inlet of the test strip.
• A reagent coating, designed to react with blood, will become damaged if the test strip is exposed to air for a long time, and accurate measurement cannot be made.

Answer:	I had called Zoetis (AlphaTracII maker) to inquire about setting the code. In the course of our conversation it was emphasized that at the time each set of test strips is manufactured a code is given that must be entered into the AlphaTracII and that this number will appear at the time the device is turned on—if not you need to go through the whole process of using the test glucose drops to reset (as you must do with each new batch of test strips as that code will be different) I would not use any other brand as it would give you a false reading—you could end up with a very sick or dead dog/cat. Call Zoetis yourself to talk to their experts if you want a technical explanation. Good luck—this monitor has enabled me to do glucose readings at home and relay the info to my vet especially valuable when my dog has vomited following his meal and insulin injection. Have also done glucose curve readings at home thus saving the $$ that an all day stay at the vet would cost for the same testing.
