There are areas of the body and certain ailments that the lamp might not be able to relieve. Please do extra research or contact your doctor, to see if it is appropriate for you. Answer:	Both. Manufacturer specs list wavelengths between 500-2500nm. Rest assured, this is nothing like a 660nm or 850nm near infrared bulb. This device produces very hot heat that can burn your skin if the device is too close for the 15 minute duration.
