Essential Oil 101
Essential oils are obtained from plant parts using various methods, the most popular being distillation and cold-pressing.
Commercial fragrances that you might find in room sprays, fabric fresheners, candles and perfumes often contain inexpensive, synthetic fragrance compounds. Even essential oils claiming to be “100% pure” may contain chemicals such as phthalates. When it comes to essential oils, quality and purity matter because an adulterated oil (or an oil of subpar quality) will not make as great an impact as a pure, high-quality oil.
Dilution Chart
Essential oils are potent and powerful, meaning you must exercise care and caution with each use. To prevent overexposure, dilution is an important step in using essential oils safely and effectively. To dilute an essential oil, choose a carrier oil and dilution rate that fits your needs. A carrier oil is an oil made up of fatty acids and is non-volatile. Fractionated Coconut oil, Grapeseed oil and Sesame oil are all examples of great carrier oils.
Product description
Plant Therapy Patchouli Essential Oil (INCI: Pogostemon Cablin Leaf Oil)
Patchouli has been used in Asia for centuries, but it became wildly popular during the 1960’s in the United States because of its calming, tension-relieving abilities. To this day, it’s a popular choice to use for mediation, spiritual rituals and yoga. This essential oil is crafted by steam distilling from the green leaves of the Pogostemom cablin plant. This produces a deep, dark amber color with an unmistakable rich, earthy, woody, ""wine"" aroma. Patchouli is KidSafe, 100% Certified Pure and Undiluted with never any additives or fillers.
Try this out when meditating: Diffuse Patchouli on its own, or add 1 drop of Patchouli with 1 drop of Basil Linalool to your aromatherapy diffuser. It will help keep your mind focused on the present moment. Blend (1-3% dilution) with your favorite carrier oil and apply to your skin to help battle acne, eczema, dermatitis, fine lines, wrinkles; even foot and shoe odor! It’s a natural aphrodisiac making it a great choice to use for a sensual massage oil.
Robert Tisserand is a world renowned essential oil expert and educator. We have him organoleptically test each essential oil before it is sent to another third-party laboratory for Gas Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry (also known as GC/MS testing).

User questions & answers
Question: | If you put a drop onto a piece of paper, does is leave any oil or marks behind after an hour? please list which ones you tested. thanks |
Answer: | Yes! Our essential oils work great in all types of diffusers. |
Question: | Does it smell like incense |
Answer: | We take great pride in offering the highest quality available. All our oils are 100% pure therapeutic grade oils. They are accepted to be used by naturopaths, aromatherapists and natural practitioners. We have chosen to not add any bases, carriers, parafins, additives, etc to any of our oils. No pesticides, synthetic chemicals, herbicides, gmos, harmful chemicals or natural fertilizers are ever used during any stage of the growing or distillation process. All USDA food/product safety guidelines are strictly followed by our suppliers. This is very important to us and something we do not compromise on. We do GC/MS (gas chromatography/ mass spectrometry) tests on each of our oils, which can be found on our website, and MSDS are available upon request. This will give the breakdown of the naturally occurring components found in any given oil. The preference between organic and non-organic is a subjective matter. As stated, all of our essential oils are 100% pure and natural, regardless of whether or not they are organic. We had included certified Organic oils to our line of products, to appease those whose preference was to have that extra certification when buying essential oils. However, there was essentially no difference between our single oils and Organic oils (i.e. Lavender/ Organic Lavender). With that said, we have decided to discontiune our Organic line due to the fact that all of our oils are 100% pure. Our oils do not have this extra organic certification but still, as far as possible, we source all our oils from organic growers and distillers. |
Question: | can an unopened essential oil be returned |
Answer: | We have had many customers use them in this way before. |
Question: | Is this ok to put on your body like a perfume |
Answer: | This blend contains, Patchouli (Pogostemon cablin), Sweet Orange (Citrus sinensis), Copaiba (Copaifera langsdorffii), Bergamot (Citrus bergamia), Sandalwood (Santalum album), Tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum), Osmanthus (Osmanthus fragrans), Pink Pepper (Schinus molle), Lavandin (Lavandula x intermedia), Galbanum CO2 (Ferula galbaniflua), Vanilla CO2 (Vanilla planifolia). |
Question: | Can this be used in a viva naturals diffuser |
Answer: | I ordered my replacement bar online from Spin Life. |
Question: | Is this organic and gmo free? Cold pressed |
Answer: | I have been using one for over 7 years now. I have never had any problems with wheels. This is an excellent walker, and you can easily get replacement parts if needed. I ordered this new one for about the house, and am stll using my old one for work. |
Question: | Are edens garden oils suitable for use in tealight burners? not into diffusers. thank you |

User questions & answers
Question: | What does "lighter" massage oil mean |
Answer: | I suppose it should be able to be returned. They have seals on the tops like plastic bottles. I would try to return it if you don't want it. |
Question: | I want to purchase this product however I want to make sure it is body oil and not soap as shown in photo |
Answer: | Yes however, When using essential oils, carrier oil is a necessity. Carrier oils dilute the essential oils and carry them to one’s body. It’s important to use a carrier oil because essential oils in their natural form are incredibly potent and can cause irritation if not diluted properly. Good carrier oils are either unscented or lightly scented and when mixed with essential oils, still carry their scent well. If you’re looking for a good carrier oil for essential oils, this list contains many great options well worth considering. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is it a glass container |
Answer: | The bottle we are selling is, as we sell only sealed bottles direct from Young Living, as a distributor for over 14 years. We cannot speak for other sellers on Amazon's site though. Thanks for the question. |
Question: | How thick is this patchouli? I like dank crunchy product...strong and lasts forever |
Answer: | Yes. It is also thicker than most oils. Each variety of oil can have different characteristics. Some even have different colors, such as blue or brown, as this one has. Thanks for your question. Due to the thickness of this oil, it can be difficult to diffuse, as it may clog up diffusers. I love this oil mixed in with Young Living's plain bath gel (Patchouli has a nice herbal scent and is a base note of some designer fragrances) to deter bugs around me when I garden. Works great for me! |
Question: | This oil is dark brown and does not have the aroma I think of as Patchouli. Has it gone bad |
Answer: | You would have to ask the manufacturer, Young Living, as to why they price it as they do. As a distributor, we entered an agreement to not sell it below 10% above their wholesale pricing, so we have it at the minimum of $37.13, which is below retail pricing. Anyone selling it below that price must not be a distributor or must not be buying from Young Living directly, unless they are violating their agreement. Thanks for the question. Bev |
Question: | Are you selling 100% pure patchouli oil or lemongrass? because, under ingredients, it reads: lemongrass? what's up with that |
Answer: | Many massage oils are thick due to the type oils used. As an example, olive oil is much thicker than grapeseed oil is and is considered a heavy oil. This product is made with lighter oils that work well for massage as well as for a body oil for skin hydration. |

Question: | How do I use this on my face |
Answer: | I don’t know if there is truly a difference; I cannot find much info on dark patchouli. With that said, I would say this is great patchouli. It smells very rich. It is darker in color than the previous bottle (of regular patchouli) I had. However, it does not seem to darken the color of the blends I am making. |
Question: | can you put this in a wax melter and will it you be able to smell it |
Answer: | I dont make candles but I do know this is a very strong concentrate you wont be disappointed in the strength of smell |
Question: | Is it glass or plastic |
Answer: | Yes, it is a glass container. |
Question: | How are essential oils sold in plastic bottles |
Answer: | It is not thick at all. Like olive oil consistency |
