13 best dried lobster mushrooms

Dried lobster mushrooms are a unique and flavorful type of dried mushroom that is popular in gourmet cooking. Here's what you need to know about dried lobster mushrooms:

  1. Appearance: Dried lobster mushrooms are distinctive in appearance. They have a bright red to orange exterior with a texture reminiscent of a lobster's shell, which is how they got their name. The interior of the mushroom is a pale cream to white color.

  2. Flavor: Dried lobster mushrooms have a robust and earthy flavor with a hint of seafood-like brininess, which is one of the reasons they are often compared to lobsters. Their flavor is intense and can add depth to a variety of dishes.

  3. Texture: When rehydrated, dried lobster mushrooms have a firm and chewy texture. They add a delightful textural contrast to recipes.

  4. Cooking: To use dried lobster mushrooms in recipes, they need to be rehydrated first. This is typically done by soaking them in hot water for about 20-30 minutes until they become pliable and have absorbed water. After rehydration, they can be sliced, diced, or used whole in a variety of dishes.

  5. Culinary Uses: Dried lobster mushrooms are highly versatile and can be used in a range of dishes. They are often incorporated into soups, stews, risottos, pasta dishes, and stir-fries to enhance flavor and provide a unique visual element due to their vibrant color.

  6. Pairing: Dried lobster mushrooms pair well with ingredients like garlic, onions, fresh herbs (such as thyme and rosemary), cream, butter, and white wine. They are often used to impart a rich umami flavor to vegetarian or vegan dishes.

  7. Availability: Dried lobster mushrooms may be found in specialty food stores, gourmet markets, or online. They are considered a gourmet ingredient and can be somewhat expensive due to their unique flavor and appearance.

  8. Storage: Like other dried mushrooms, dried lobster mushrooms should be stored in an airtight container in a cool, dry place to maintain their quality and prevent moisture absorption.

  9. Caution: It's important to properly rehydrate dried lobster mushrooms before use, as they can be quite tough when dry. Also, make sure to clean them thoroughly to remove any dirt or debris that may be present.

Dried lobster mushrooms are a prized ingredient in the culinary world, known for their distinctive appearance and rich, seafood-like flavor. They are a favorite among chefs and home cooks looking to elevate their dishes with a touch of gourmet flair.

User questions & answers

Question: How much does a rehydrated ounce equal? I have a recipe that calls for 1 Cup rehydrated mushrooms
Answer: Used 2/3 of bottle on a 18-20 lbs Turkey for deep frying. Moist and deliciously tasty. I couldve used less about half..it leaked out - overstuffed the turkey. :)
Question: Can these be ground to a powder in a spice grinder
Answer: Sorry, but I don't recall.
Question: How long does the package say to rehydrate them
Answer: Still have half of a bottle from last year on a 18 - 20 lb . Half if a bottle gave it moisture and tasty too. Used balance on 3 chicken fryers and still had more. As long as its refrigersted, itll be fine. You'll eventually use it up.

Spice Jungle Dried Lobster Mushrooms, Whole - 1 oz.

Spice Jungle, LLC

Based on 6 reviews Check latest price

Product description

It isn’t really hard to guess why the lobster mushroom is so named. This parasitic fungus (it’s not technically a mushroom) grows on other mushrooms and eventually colonizes them with a meaty, red flesh that takes on the appearance of cooked lobster meat. In the process the zombified mushroom host gains both a striking appearance and delightful flavor.

The aroma when it reconstitutes, strangely, is a little aquatic and somewhat reminiscent of shellfish. The flavor makes the name even more appropriate as there are faint hints of lobster and certainly a taste of clam amongst its otherwise simple mushroom flavor. Use it in place of nearly any mushroom in a recipe. It is a perfect addition to casseroles or plates of mac and cheese.

  • Lobster mushrooms are a unique hybrid between a parasitic fungus and its host mushroom, which is hijacked for its nutrients and transformed into a vivid red-orange variety
  • Lobster mushrooms have thick, meaty flesh and a deep, earthy flavor
  • All Natural, Gluten-Free, Kosher Parve, Non-GMO
  • Packaged in food-grade plastic food containers
  • Spice Jungle Brand - 100% Satisfaction Guaranteed

User questions & answers

Question: Where are these mushrooms grown
Answer: origin is China (which I didn't know until it got here) and wouldn't have bought if it was clear.
Question: Can these be air fried
Answer: Well, they are very small and dried. If you were going to try it you'd have to soak them first. I don't think it would work very well.

User questions & answers

Question: Is the growing bag just placed in the cellophane bag, with the top of the cellophane bag open? Or should the cellophane bag go over the grow bag
Answer: We are growing ours on the dining room table. We keep the house at 73. Misting the bag once a day is all we do. AND we are already getting mushrooms starting after only a week and a half!
Question: What is the substrate made from
Answer: The bag with the mushrooms goes INTO the humidity bag..leave the top open and make sure you puncture holes into the mushroom bag as the instructions say...and mist them from the top every day ..that's what I did....mine were grown inside...took longer for them to pop but they finally did when I wasn't paying any attention to them....I was pretty happy with my harvest..
Question: Never did this before, do i need a special room or temp in my home? i live in nj usually 72 degrees in my home and winter is approaching
Answer: The cattle are raised in Tasmania and New Zealand and all are raised in a humane manner. They live their entire lives on sprawling open pastures and feed on healthy, live vegetation the way nature intended. However, the beef does not have the Certified Humane credential because that organization does not certify in Tasmania and New Zealand, otherwise it would easily qualify.
Question: Do you put the humidity tent over the growing bag or growing bag inside the tent with the tent open at the top
Answer: Good question. I also had the same problem seeing this when clicking on the photo. You must download the photo and magnify it on your computer. I saved you guys the trouble and typed it out.GLUTEN FREE, NO ANTIBIOTICS100% GRASS FED BEEF SNACK STICKSIngredients: beef, water, salt, citric acid, celery juice, black pepper, red pepper, garlic powder, coriander, stuffed in collagen casing. It appears to be the first no preservative beef stick I've seen and a pretty high price per stick. I would like to try out a smaller sample size like 5 or 10 sticks due to the cost.
