12 best shirataki pastas

Shirataki pasta is a type of pasta noodle made from the root of the konjac plant, also known as glucomannan. It originated in Japan and is popular in various Asian cuisines. Shirataki noodles are sometimes referred to as "miracle noodles" due to their low-calorie and low-carbohydrate content. Here are some key points about Shirataki pasta:

  1. Ingredients: Shirataki noodles are primarily composed of water and glucomannan, a soluble dietary fiber. They are typically free from wheat, gluten, and grains, which makes them suitable for individuals with dietary restrictions.

  2. Low in Calories and Carbohydrates: One of the primary advantages of Shirataki pasta is its extremely low calorie and carbohydrate content. A typical serving of Shirataki noodles contains very few calories, making it a popular choice for those on low-calorie diets or following low-carb lifestyles like keto.

  3. Texture: Shirataki noodles have a unique texture that some people may find different from traditional wheat-based pasta. They are often described as chewy and slightly rubbery. The texture can vary slightly depending on the brand and preparation method.

  4. Preparation: Shirataki noodles come packaged in water, and it's essential to rinse them thoroughly before use to remove any residual odor. They are usually blanched or boiled briefly before incorporating them into dishes. This step helps improve their texture and eliminates any lingering flavors.

  5. Versatility: Shirataki noodles can be used in a variety of dishes, such as stir-fries, soups, salads, and pasta recipes. They absorb the flavors of the sauces and ingredients they are cooked with, making them a versatile option for creating low-calorie, low-carb versions of your favorite dishes.

  6. Health Benefits: Due to their high fiber content, Shirataki noodles may promote feelings of fullness and aid in weight management. The glucomannan in these noodles has also been studied for its potential to help regulate blood sugar levels and improve digestive health.

  7. Varieties: There are different types of Shirataki noodles available, including traditional white Shirataki noodles and tofu Shirataki noodles, which are made by combining glucomannan with tofu for a slightly different texture and added protein.

  8. Storage: Shirataki noodles are usually found in the refrigerated section of grocery stores or packaged in a shelf-stable form. They have a long shelf life, especially when stored properly.

In summary, Shirataki pasta is a low-calorie, low-carbohydrate pasta alternative made from konjac root that is popular among individuals following various dietary plans. It's known for its unique texture and versatility in a range of dishes. When properly prepared and incorporated into recipes, Shirataki noodles can be a satisfying addition to a balanced diet.

User questions & answers

Question: How many servings per package
Answer: It's about two but I have found that the serving sizes were too small to fill me up so I use the entire package, since it has virtually no calories, that way I get full with less sauce. I have a friend that has made Pad Thai with them and it was wonderful
Question: Are these noodles "Paleo Diet friendly?" I'm strict on my Paleo diet but would love some noodles now and again. Thank you
Answer: Yes. I'm on a ketogenic diet and eat them. They're zero carb, don't raise your blood sugar and are from a healthy plant. My dad is diabetic and when he checked his blood sugar after having these noodles his readings were fantastic, better than before he usually eats. I do a lot of paleo stuff for my ketogenic diet and if I were paleo I'd totally eat these noodles. I love them in noodle soups.
Question: how do you store them
Answer: I store them in the cupboard. I find when I use them, the best method is to rinse them, then put them in a dry fry pan and saute them until the liquid is about gone. By drying them out they are ready for whatever sauce you wish to put on them. They also are not slimey that way.
Question: What is the shelf life of any of these noodles
Answer: Shelf life is 1 year. A bit longer if they are refrigerated. Great for storing in the bunker in case of a zombie apocalypse along with Spam and Twinkies. lol

Answer: Yes I have, after an 1hr wait my blood sugar is fine. Only 19 carbs per serving. I can have more of this soy pasta than regular pasta. But everyone is diffrent. And it’s has the same texture as regular pasta. Have tried bean pastas and to me the texture is really bad.

What are Shirataki Konjac Noodles?

As you may guess from the name, shirataki noodles originated in Japan. They are made from the Konjac root, also called White Yam or Devil’s Tongue. They have a gelatinous texture and are a good source of the dietary fiber Glucomannan.

To make the noodles, the Glucomannan fiber is extracted from the Konjac root and mixed with water and limewater. This creates a gelatinous substance called konnyaku which is made into noodle-like or rice-like substances.

The finished noodles are 97% water and 3% indigestible fiber, making it a zero calorie noodle.

These noodles have gained the nickname “Miracle Noodles,” and are completely paleo and calorie-free.

They have virtually no taste on their own but have a slight fish-like smell when packaged wet. This is due to the water they are packaged in and can be easily rinsed off.

Are Shirataki Konjac Noodles Healthy?

It would seem like a product like this is too good to be true, but Shirataki noodles live up to their hype.

These noodles are a high-fiber food yet have no calories and no carbohydrates. The Glucomannan fiber in the noodles is a type of viscous fiber (soluble fiber). This is similar to what is found in chia seeds why they can absorb up to 50 times their weight in water.

Prebiotics in Glucomannan Fiber

The viscous fiber in Shirataki noodles is known as a prebiotic, meaning that it is indigestible to humans. It provides no calories or nutrients to human cells, but nourishes good bacteria in the digestive system.

Glucomannan for Weight Loss

Shirataki products and other Glucomannan containing foods are sometimes recommended for weight loss. These foods are no-calorie and high-fiber and are recommended on various types of diets.

Glucomannan as a Resistant Starch

Glucomannan is a great source of resistant starch and an incredibly easy way to incorporate this into the diet.

Thai Fusion Veggie Noodle Salad

1.Prep all the ingredients for the salad and place them in a very large mixing bowl. Toss delicately to combine and set aside.

2.Place all the ingredients for the dressing in the container of a small blender or food processor and process until well blended and creamy; pour over the salad, toss delicately with kitchen tongs until all the ingredients are well coated with the dressing.

3.Serve immediately or at least within a few hours; this salad does not keep very well. Leftovers will keep for a few days in the refrigerator but some wilting is to be expected.

For the dressing

  • 3/4 cup full fat coconut milk
  • 3 tbsp yellow thai curry paste
  • 3 tbsp creamy peanut butter
  • 3 tbsp minced ginger root
  • 3 tbsp brown rice vinegar
  • 3 tbsp lime juice & 3/4 tsp salt, I use Himalayan salt
  • 2 tbsp shiro miso, (white miso) & 1/4 tsp ground white pepper
  • 2 tbsp pure maple syrup
  • 2 tbsp toasted sesame oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

User questions & answers

Question: Has anyone tried cooking them with chicken in chicken broth as in chicken and noodles
Answer: Anybody who says tastes fishy is imagining things. They are made from shirataki mushrooms and are flavorless. You do need to rinse them for a few minutes to clear the smell of the juice they come in..that has a sort of a fishy scent but is alleviated by rinsing. These take on the flavor of what you cook. Great beef stroganoff, pasta primavera with shrimp or veggies and fetuccini sauce, tomato sauce. They really fill you up and are great fiber for you! LOVE them, just a different texture to get used to, but baked in casserole cannot tell difference from pasta. No gas and bloat like from pasta, and only like 30 cals insteads of 300!
Question: I love these noodles but when i open one bag of the fettuccine noodles they were complete mush. is this normal? i hated to waste a bagbut i couldn’t
Answer: Not sure what you meant by mush,, but they are wet and slimy. You rinse them a lot and put some sauce on them, and they are good. The smell is also bad when you open the bag, but once again, rinse them a lot!
Question: Since you have to rinse, cook, then dry can you do this the night before and store them in the refrigerator till the next day or two
Answer: I suppose you might cover them w a damp towel . I have simply rinsed, then poured boiling water or broth ( then add butter, or olive oil) over them and served on the side with soup , spagetti sauce or stew . They tend to disappear if I put them directly into my soup. I havent tried them with white sauce.
Question: I just received a box of 6 packs of angel hair pasta, should the packages be refriderated before cooking them
Answer: No that’s why this product is so great for travel. Just remember to rinse well and try to dry. Cook first in a heated pan no oils to steam out moisture. Enjoy great cold also for pasta salad.

User questions & answers

Question: Nutrition facts table say ´carbs =1g´ but fiber say 'fiber = 3g', so carbs are less than fiber?? how can it be if total carbs include fibers
Answer: If I remember, it says 5 calories which would come from about 1.25 carbs.... my guess is that there are approximately a little over 4 carbs with 3 of the carbs being fiber.... which supposedly is not used by the body but passes through... Description could be written better but if you look at all of the brands, I believe they all show a net carb total of 0 or 1 and carbs from 0 to 5...
Question: Anyone had any tan/brown/black tiny particles on each bag
Answer: Not that I noticed. After opening and cooking one bag....I tossed. Horrible stuff.
Question: do you get 2 boxes
Answer: One box contained one large bag with mininbags of each pasta
Question: How many oz in one bag
Answer: About 6.7 oz. Eight bags with a total weight of 53.61 oz.

THAI PORK SALAD WITH KONJAC NOODLES

1. Chop the tomato, thinly slice the red onion, mince the garlic and cilantro separately. Cut the cucumber in half lengthwise and slice it.

2. Drain the water out of the shirataki noodles and rinse them out. Cut the noodles in 2 or 3 as they tend to be very long. Put a pot to boil and add the noodles. Boil them for 2 minutes. This will get rid of their 'fishy' smell. Drain the water and set the noodles aside.

TURKEY KONJAC FETTUCCINE SKILLET

  1. Cook konjac fettuccine according to package directions.
  2. While the pasta cooks, saute the onion, celery and garlic in 1/4 cup water for 3 minutes in a large oven-proof skillet. Add mushrooms; cook and stir until vegetables are tender. If need, add a little more water to the pan while you cook the vegetables. The water eliminates the need for cooking in oil.
  3. Add the milk, seasoning blend and salt. Bring to a boil.
  4. In a small bowl, whisk together the cornstarch and half-and-half until smooth; stir into skillet. Cook and stir for 2 minutes or until thickened and bubbly. Stir in Parmesan cheese just until melted.
  5. Stir in turkey. Drain fettuccine; add to turkey mixture. Heat through.
  6. Sprinkle with mozzarella cheese. Broil for 2-3 minutes on the middle rack or until cheese is melted.Sprinkle with fresh parsley and serve.
