Whether you’re trying out a fried rice recipe, making stir-fry, Spanish rice, or black beans, brown rice is a versatile, healthy staple and the perfect way to add nutrition and substance to your meals today or years down the road.
A Go-To Meal Prep Staple
Would you believe that 4.19 million metric tons of rice were consumed in the United States in 2016/2017? It’s likely your family contributed to that number. Buying brown rice in airtight, waterproof, and bug and rodent proof pails ensures that the brown rice you need will stay fresh for up to 7 years*. And when opened, the rice will stay fresh for up to an entire year. Whether you use it for everyday meal prep or as part of your emergency food supply, a bulk pail of brown rice is worth its weight in delicious and hearty meals.
*Shelf life of brown rice is shorter than white rice due to its high oil content.
Save Money, Reduce Waste
Buying shelf stable food in bulk offers many benefits, starting with cost savings and waste reduction. It’s a given that purchasing food in large volumes presents substantial savings. What’s different with shelf stable bulk food is that it won’t spoil or go stale like its fresh, store-bought counterpart. It’s easy to see why Augason Farms shelf stable bulk food will save your family money and reduce the waste of spoiled foods.
Large Families and Groups
Bulk, shelf-stable food is an economical way to prepare meals for large families, church groups, schools and restaurants. The airtight pail, when unopened, keeps food fresh for up to 30 years. Once opened, food will last up to a full year. That’s plenty of time to prepare many high-quality and great tasting meals for any type of gathering. In the event of an emergency, bulk foods such as rice and beans can be added to soups, casseroles and breakfast dishes to extend the number of meals that are needed to help nourish neighbors or community members who may be suffering.
Keep Your Empty Pails
Once you’ve consumed the food, an empty pail can be used in dozens of ways, here are just a few: collect rain water, keep papers and valuables dry, trash can, livestock feeder, wash dishes, coal/charcoal storage, carry wood for fires, store kindling, gather fruits and nuts, flotation device, game feeder, step stool, grow potatoes, store tools, mix concrete, helmet, shovel and more.
Shelf Life 101
The quality and taste of most Augason Farms products will last up to 20 or 30 years, however it varies based on food storage conditions and ingredients. Some products such as eggs, creamy soups and bread mixes have a shelf life up to 5 to 10 years. Extreme temperatures will deteriorate the quality and shelf life. For best results store in a cool and dry place at temperatures between 55°F and 70°F.

User questions & answers
Question: | How many 16oz boxes do you get for |
Answer: | It is not individual boxes. I got one big bag which weighs 11 pounds, That works out to about $3.00 a pound. This is arborio superfino rice which is far superior to ordinary rice. Make sure to read the cooking instructions on the bag, because arborio rice cooks up differently than regular rice. |
Question: | How can 10 - 16oz boxes weigh 10.8 lbs |
Answer: | 16 oz is a pound. So 1 lb of product plus box packaging times 10 plus the box to ship those in probably equals a good 8 tenths of a lb on top of the 10 lb of weight of the rice. |
Question: | how much rice is in this package? The package says 1 kilo, the shipping weight says 6.5 pounds, and the cost/ounce equals 11 pounds /box. What is it |
Answer: | When I bought it, it was 5 boxes. Each box was 2lbs 3.3 oz(1kg). Each box made about 20 servings if you made it all at once. I live alone so it's lasted a very long time |
Question: | Just purchased and no sign of best by date anywhere. What is the best by date for Lot 573 Q |
Answer: | This is dried, milled rice (no bran or germ). Kept in a dry place it will be good for over 10 years. It is also vacuum packed so it should be good for 20 to 30 years. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is it organic |
Answer: | this is not organic |
Question: | What is the size the bag? Wide, tall and thick |
Answer: | My 25 lb bag measures 15 wide by 24 tall and 8 to 9 inches thick. My bag now is only 2/3 full and the dimensions sitting on the bottom are 15 wide by 10 tall by 10 inches thick so the height of the quinoa probably was shorter than 24 inches tall when standing on one end. Hope that helps. |
Question: | What is the recommended storage for 25lbs of quinoa for home use |
Answer: | Depends on where you live. In California, you can definitely get away with using just a clip. In other humid area, some sort of large airtight container is recommended. FYI. I have stopped buying this brand of quinoa because it is very dirty. I got may be 2-3 bags from amazon, each time I cooked it, the wash just seemed to be endless.... From chunks of debris to rocks, and it also contained a lot of dirt because the wash water was just filthy even after many times of wash. Hopefully, the producer/supplier has improved the quality ever since I stopped purchasing this brand. Good luck. |
Question: | What is the difference between this quinoa and organic quinoa |
Answer: | Organic quinoa is grown without the aid of pesticides, conventianal farming quinoa use pesticides and sometimes use artificial fertilizers to promote growth and yield. Organic use none of this, therefore it is more work intensive driving up the price. Some say it is safer because no worries about pesticide residual. I have used both and find this quinoa tasty; although I rinse it one more time before cooking to get make sure the natural bitter powder is off. |

User questions & answers
Question: | what type is this ? spelt (triticum spelta), emmer (triticum dicoccum), and einkorn (triticum monococcum |
Answer: | If it says pearled that means it is not whole (no husk). If it cooks in 30 minutes is pealed. Whole farro will take more like 60 minutes |
Question: | How quickly do these expire |
Answer: | My rice cooker has an oatmeal setting. I made "farrotto" using twice as much liquid as farro for 35 minutes on the oatmeal setting with an occasional stir. |
Question: | is this kosher certified |
Answer: | Hello Renee, I would cook it like oatmeal. For the creamiest texture, put grain (I grind it first) in COLD water, 2 parts water to one part grain. Stirring almost constantly over med heat until thick and some lava type bubbles appear at the surface. Cover and let set for about 10 mins. I have been making bread with ground farro. Challenging as far as texture goes but GOSH, the flavor is 5 stars. My 28 yr old VERY picky eater, loves it.......shocking!I also find that any cooked grain tastes richer the second day after refrigeration. So many tricks to the trade ay? |
Question: | can you plant this farrow |
Answer: | don't know but will gladly send you like 50 grains by mail and you can experiment. Just leave me an address. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this one halal or kosher |
Answer: | I've found no difference in the taste between the golden and classic. For me they are both equally good replacement for sugar. When I use the golden for baking, the color comes out a little darker than if I use the classic. |
Question: | Is this supposed to smell horrible |
Answer: | This is almost pure erythritol, about 99%. Erythritol is about 70% as sweet as sugar. They add enough Monk Fruit to make it as sweet as sugar. Being 99% erythritol by weight would not be deceptive because Monk Fruit is 150 to 200 times as sweet as sugar. What is deceptive is that only 30% of the sweetness comes from Monk Fruit. Thus it should be call Erythritol enhanced with Monk Fruit, rather than Monk Fruit sweetener. Having stated this, other than potential digestive problems resulting from erythritol not being digestible, there is nothing wrong with a sweetener being 70% erythritol and 30% Monk Fruit by sweetness, except calling it Monk Fruit sweetener. If you want a granulated Monk Fruit sweetener with a higher percentage of Monk Fruit, you will have to look for one that is not a one for one replacement for sugar, or uses a less sweet base than erytritol. |
Question: | Can this be used for rice cakes sauce |
Answer: | Lakanto isn't truely a "Monkfruit Sweetner", except as a marketing gimmick. It is basically the same thing as Truvia, except that it is substituting in a bit of monk fruit instead of stevia to increase the sweetness so that it is more like using sugar in proportion. This is made even more obvious by their marketing it as a 1:1 substitute for sugar, while distracting people with the (erroneous) note that actual monk fruit is 300x the sweetness of sugar. It would be more honest to market their product as an "Erythritol sweetner" with monk fruit extract, but that's not as marketable. |
Question: | Hi there is this product Gluten Free |
Answer: | 1/4 cup of uncooked rice yields 3/4 cup of cooked rice = 150 calories, 35 grams of carbs, 3 grams of protein, 6% iron, no sugar & no fat. |

Question: | i'd love to try this item, wondering if the issue with sand or stones has been resolved before I purchase it |
Answer: | You can’t spread this on alone as a spread. It’s very hot. Used to add heat and flavor to Other sauces and recipes |
Question: | is this brand organic? I see it on other brands, but not this one |
Answer: | only thing I'd worry about is koji seed, as it can be derived from barley, which is not gluten free. can't be sure unless the makers clarify. either way, it doesn't have a certified GF label. with a product like this, there could be gluten contaminants.
