14 best dried wild rice
Dried wild rice is a type of grain that is commonly used in various culinary dishes. Here's some information about dried wild rice:
Description: Wild rice is not technically rice but rather the seed of an aquatic grass native to North America. It has a distinctive appearance, with long, slender grains that are usually dark brown or black in color. When cooked, the grains have a pleasant, nutty flavor and a slightly chewy texture.
Culinary Uses: Dried wild rice is often used in a variety of dishes, including soups, salads, stuffings, and casseroles. It can also be served as a side dish or used in pilaf recipes. Its unique texture and flavor make it a popular choice for adding depth to dishes.
Nutrition: Wild rice is a nutritious grain. It is high in dietary fiber, protein, and various essential minerals like manganese, phosphorus, and magnesium. It is also a good source of antioxidants and B vitamins.
Cooking: Cooking dried wild rice can take longer than regular white or brown rice. It usually requires simmering for 45 minutes to an hour or even longer until the grains are tender and have split open. Some people prefer to soak it before cooking to reduce cooking time.
Versatility: Wild rice is often combined with other grains like white or brown rice to create a mixed rice blend. It can also be used as a stuffing for poultry or added to salads for extra texture and flavor.
Cultural Significance: Wild rice has cultural and culinary significance among Native American communities in North America, where it has been harvested for centuries. It is often considered a symbol of cultural heritage and is used in traditional dishes.
Storage: Store dried wild rice in an airtight container in a cool, dry place. Properly stored, it can have a long shelf life, typically lasting up to a year or more.
Dried wild rice is a unique and nutritious grain that adds a distinctive flavor and texture to a variety of dishes. It is a versatile pantry staple that can be used creatively in both traditional and modern cuisines.

The key to crafting an exceptional wild rice dish is in the caliber of the kernels. From California's Fall River Valley, Trader Joe's Wild Rice thrives in the fertile clay soils, clean air and crisp waters that flow from Mt. Shasta. The rice grains are dark, slightly glossy, and uniform in length - all good signs of quality wild rice. We cooked up a batch and were rewarded with chewy bits of burst rice (a good thing!) that had a deep nutty and grassy flavor. They work closely with the growers to ensure consistent quality. A one pound makes between 16-22 servings.
