11 best natural sweetners

Natural sweeteners are substances that add sweetness to foods and beverages and are derived from natural sources such as plants. These sweeteners are often used as alternatives to refined sugars or artificial sweeteners due to their perceived health benefits and the fact that they are less processed. Here are some common natural sweeteners:

  1. Honey: Honey is a natural sweetener produced by bees from flower nectar. It contains various vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants and has been used for centuries in cooking and baking. Honey comes in different varieties, each with its unique flavor profile, such as clover honey, wildflower honey, and manuka honey.

  2. Maple Syrup: Maple syrup is made from the sap of sugar maple trees. It's a popular sweetener in North America and is often used on pancakes, waffles, and in various recipes. It contains minerals like manganese and zinc.

  3. Agave Nectar: Agave nectar is derived from the agave plant, primarily grown in Mexico. It is sweeter than sugar and is often used as a low-glycemic-index alternative in various recipes. However, it is still high in fructose and should be used in moderation.

  4. Stevia: Stevia is a sweetener extracted from the leaves of the stevia plant. It is known for being intensely sweet but having no calories.Stevia is often used as a sugar substitute for people looking to reduce their calorie intake or manage blood sugar levels.

  5. Coconut Sugar: Coconut sugar is made from the sap of coconut palm trees. It has a caramel-like flavor and is used in a variety of culinary applications. Coconut sugar contains small amounts of vitamins and minerals.

  6. Date Sugar: Date sugar is made from dried and ground dates. It has a distinct flavor and is a source of fiber, vitamins, and minerals. It can be used as a sugar substitute in some recipes.

  7. Molasses: Molasses is a byproduct of sugar refining and is rich in minerals like iron, calcium, and potassium. It has a robust, bittersweet flavor and is often used in baking and cooking, particularly in gingerbread cookies and barbecue sauces.

  8. Monk Fruit Extract: Monk fruit extract, derived from the monk fruit, is another non-caloric sweetener. It is significantly sweeter than sugar and is often used in combination with other sweeteners to reduce their caloric content.

  9. Yacon Syrup: Yacon syrup comes from the yacon plant's roots, primarily found in South America. It contains fructooligosaccharides, which are prebiotic fibers that can support gut health. Yacon syrup has a sweet, molasses-like flavor.

  10. Lucuma Powder: Lucuma is a fruit native to South America. Lucuma powder is made by dehydrating and grinding the fruit. It has a sweet, maple-like flavor and is often used in smoothies, desserts, and baking.

When using natural sweeteners, it's essential to consider their sweetness level, flavor profile, and how they interact with other ingredients in your recipes. Some people opt for natural sweeteners because they believe they offer health benefits or because they have dietary restrictions, such as avoiding refined sugars or artificial sweeteners. However, it's crucial to use these sweeteners in moderation as part of a balanced diet.

Truvia Natural Stevia Sweetener Packets, 35.25 Ounce, 500 Count (Pack of 1)

Truvia Cargill

Based on 5 reviews Check latest price

Product description

Sweetness is meant to be enjoyed. That's why Truvia created products meant to reduce sugar, not taste. The clean, sweet flavor contained in Truvia Natural Sweetener packets comes from nature in the form of the stevia leaf. Leaves don't dissolve well in beverages or baked goods, so we extract the sweetness from the stevia leaf. Because stevia leaf extract is 200x sweeter than sugar, we balance the sweetness with erythritol, a sweetener produced by fermentation. Erythritol is also found in fruits like grapes and pears. This gives you the white crystals you're used to without the calories. This 500-count box is perfect for coffee shops, restaurants, at work or in the office.

  • Zero-calorie sugar substitute made with stevia leaf extract, erythritol, and natural flavors
  • Box contains 500 packets of Truvia natural stevia sweetener
  • One packet provides the same sweetness as 2 teaspoons of sugar
  • Non-GMO, Gluten-free, sugar-free, kosher, and suitable for people with diabetes
  • Use in anything from your coffee, tea, fruit, cereal and yogurt to your favorite recipes

User questions & answers

Question: Does this have any "after taste" like some do? Thanks
Answer: Nope. No after taste like Stevia :) I love this brand of erythritol
Question: what is erythritol made from
Answer: Erythritol is: Fermented – it is made by fermenting the natural sugar found in corn. Heat stable up to 160 degrees C. Non-caloric – While most sugar alcohols are low calorie, erythritol has zero calories. Non-glycemic - Does not raise blood sugar – erythritol is considered suitable for people with diabetes because it does not raise plasma glucose or insulin levels. The easiest sugar alcohol to digest – more than 90% of erythritol is absorbed in the small intestine, so minimal amounts reach the colon where other sugar alcohols end up causing diarrhea and other symptoms. Studies have shown that erythritol is even easier to digest than xylitol. Noncarcinogenic– studies have shown that erythritol, like xylitol, does not have carcinogenic properties. An antioxidant – erythritol helps to fight free radicals, responsible for the aging process. It is considered to be even more efficient than other sugar alcohols because it is so readily absorbed and yet not metabolized (it is excreted unchanged). Source, see: https://bodyecology.com/articles/erythritol_what_you_need_to_know_natural_sugar_substitute.php They recommend an interesting product I have not tried. I am using a mixture of half erythritol and half xylitol, and so far I find that sweetener to be quite acceptable.
Question: Where is this sourced? U.S. or China
Answer: The source is important, pls be transparent. And made in usa is important, if the sources are from definitely will not buy.
Question: What is the difference? "Anthony’s uses cane sugar fermentation vs corn slurry fermentation
Answer: In both processes glucose (usually from cornstarch) is converted into erythritol. Anthony's Erythritol used to have a statement in their back label "Product of USA ...derived from cane sugar" but they removed this statement in mid 2019 when the compnay was sold. So it is now probably made from non-GMO corn in China or from from GMO corn in the USA. FYI erythritol is widely promoted as a natural sweetener for being found in nature but the store-bought erythritol is in fact a synthetic sweetener - it is not directly isolated or extracted from a plant or parts of a plant.

User questions & answers

Question: What is the conversion to = 1C sugar? And how many 1 C “sugar equivalent portions “ are in this bag
Answer: Thanks for your question. 1 scoop provides the sweetness of 1 tsp of sugar. There are 48 tsp of sugar in a cup, so you would need 48 scoops to replicate the sweetness of 1 cup of sugar. There are roughly 7 cups worth of sugar sweetness in one bag. If you are using this for baking you will need to add erythritol for bulk since there will a lot less volume of monk fruit compared to sugar. If using to sweeten beverages you will not need to add any bulk. Hope this helps.
Question: Do you use the same amount of monk fruit sugar as regular sugar in baking
Answer: Thanks for your question. Every bag comes with a scoop, and one scoop of NatriSweet Monk Fruit is equivalent in sweetness to 1tsp of sugar.
Question: What’s the percent of mongroside in this product
Answer: based on the 200% sweeter I'd say around 30%. This is just a guess based on other brands and their claims.
Question: How does this one compare to other brands of pure monk fruit in taste
Answer: It is 100%, so it tastes like monk fruit concentrate powder. Nothing like stevia or erythritol. It is more potent than the liquid drops form, IMO.

User questions & answers

Question: Why did my packets come without the box? They just arrived loosely in a random postal box
Answer: Mine didn't come in a box like what is pictured but came in a white corrugated postal box but had stevia in the raw stamped all over it. Didn't matter to me how it came, I just wanted the packets. Wasn't worried about what type of container it came in.
Question: Are these 2g or 3g
Answer: Each packet is 1g. Hope this helps!
Question: It say
Answer: Yes
Question: What are the fillers
Answer: Dextrose, which is another name for glucose, a simple sugar. There's literally more sugar in this zero calorie sweetener than there is stevia, but since each packet is only a gram, the added sugar is less than 2.5 calories, so they can round it to 0 on the nutrition facts. Pure stevia is very sweet so something has to be added to it in order to swap 1 to 1 with sugar. Because they used dextrose, this is basically just a slightly sweeter sugar packet that slips in just under the FDA rules to allow them to label it as zero calories. If you're looking for something with a lower glycemic index, try sucrose, a.k.a table sugar.

User questions & answers

Question: Is this pure? Some say 100% then list 10+% alcohol on ingredient label
Answer: Monk drops only has one ingredient: Monkfruit extract. There is no alcohol. Our ingredients list is visible in the second image near the nutrition panel.
Question: Is this non GMO
Answer: Yes, this product is Non-GMO.
Question: is this good in iced tea
Answer: I think so! Back when I used sugar, I didn't like iced tea unless it had about a pound of sugar in it. For some reason, tea seems to neutralize the taste of sugar. But I tried the drops in a giant iced tea (probably 20 ounces) and found that about 25 drops did the trick and tasted great. Even using a lot of drops, it seems like the bottle lasts forever.
Question: do these drops need to be refrigerated after opening
Answer: On the 1.5 ounce bottles it states to refrigerate after opening. On the 8 ounce jug it states to keep in cold dry place and use within 90 days or refrigerate. I do not know what temperate constitutes "cold" to the manufacturer.

Truvia

Based on 5 reviews Check latest price

Product description

Sweetness is meant to be enjoyed. That's why Truvia created products meant to reduce sugar, not taste. The clean, sweet flavor contained in Truvia Spoonable Natural Stevia Sweetener comes from nature in the form of the stevia leaf. This gives you the sweet white crystals you love, without the sugar calorie. The lid opens to allow for measuring spoons to scoop up the sweetness you need when cooking. Whether you spoon it, pour it, or sprinkle it, this Spoonable jar is great for measuring just the right amount of sweetness you crave.

  • Zero-calorie sugar substitute made with stevia leaf extract, erythritol, and natural flavors
  • Jar contains 80 servings of Truvia natural stevia sweetener at 3/4 teaspoon each
  • 3/4 teaspoon provides the same sweetness as 2 teaspoons of sugar
  • Gluten-free, sugar-free, kosher, and suitable for people with diabetes
  • Spoon into anything from your coffee, tea, fruit, cereal and yogurt to your favorite recipes

Answer: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004LSGEXY/ref=ask_ql_qh_dp_hza
Question: if 1 9.8 jar of Truvia cost $5.00, why would I pay over $17.00 for
Answer: Buy from Amazon.com Services LLC
Question: Why is the price so high? This is only 5 bucks at most stores
Answer: 1000 packets not that jar much better price than the 400 count I generally buy.
Question: Is Truvia keto friendly
