9 best syrups
Syrups are viscous, sweet liquids commonly used in cooking, baking, and as condiments to add sweetness and flavor to a variety of dishes and beverages. Here's some information related to syrups, including maple syrup and other sweeteners:
Maple Syrup: Maple syrup is a natural sweetener made from the sap of sugar maple trees. It is commonly associated with Canada and the northeastern United States. To make maple syrup, sap is collected from maple trees, then boiled down to remove excess water, leaving behind a concentrated syrup with a distinct, rich flavor. It's often used as a topping for pancakes, waffles, and French toast.
Pancake Syrup: Pancake syrup is a sweet syrup typically used as a topping for breakfast foods like pancakes, waffles, and crepes. While maple syrup is a popular choice, pancake syrups can also be made with corn syrup, high-fructose corn syrup, or other sweeteners, and they may include artificial flavorings.
Flavored Syrups: Flavored syrups are used to add a burst of flavor to various culinary creations. They come in a wide range of flavors, including vanilla, caramel, chocolate, fruit flavors, and more. These syrups are often used in coffee and cocktails, as well as desserts and baking recipes.
Simple Syrup: Simple syrup is a basic syrup made by dissolving sugar in water, typically in equal parts. It's commonly used in cocktails to sweeten and balance the flavors without adding granulated sugar grains.
Agave Nectar: Agave nectar, or agave syrup, is a sweetener derived from the sap of the agave plant. It is often used as a natural alternative to sugar or honey and has a mild, slightly fruity flavor.
Honey: While not technically a syrup, honey is a thick, sweet liquid produced by bees from flower nectar. It is a natural sweetener and can be used in baking, cooking, and as a sweet topping.
Corn Syrup: Corn syrup is a sweet syrup made from corn starch. It is often used in the food industry as a sweetener and as an ingredient in recipes, especially in candies and desserts.
Molasses: Molasses is a byproduct of sugar refining, and it comes in various forms, including light, dark, and blackstrap. It has a robust, bittersweet flavor and is used in baking, marinades, and barbecue sauces.
Syrup Substitutes: In recipes, you can often substitute one syrup for another, depending on the flavor and consistency you desire. However, keep in mind that each syrup has its distinct taste and may affect the final dish differently.
Storage: Most syrups should be stored in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight. Some syrups, like maple syrup, may require refrigeration after opening to prevent spoilage.
Syrups play a vital role in enhancing the sweetness and flavor of a wide range of dishes, from breakfast classics to desserts and beverages. They are versatile pantry staples that can be used in both sweet and savory recipes, making them a valuable ingredient in the world of cooking and baking.

Better for You
Maple is nature's purest sweetener. Nothing is added. No preservatives. No artificial colors or flavors. Maple syrup is one simple ingredient that is filled with essential nutrients, minerals, and antioxidants, and is the only sweetener that delivers manganese, vitamin B2, zinc, magnesium, calcium, and potassium in every drop.
The Source
Butternut Mountain Farm Maple Syrup starts in the forests of the Green Mountain State. Over the past 40 years we've built relationships with about 350 select sugarmakers - people whose stories we know and practices we respect. The farmers with whom we work understand maple and share our commitment to maintaining the health and sustainability of our forests, and are committed to making the highest quality syrup found in the world.
Perfect Taste
It's all Grade A. The classses of pure maple syrup are based on color and flavor. They do not relate to quality. The grades are meant to help identify the right flavor profile for the palate or recipe. As a rule, the darker the maple syrup color, the more robust the flavor.
Maple Makes it Memorable
Forget pancakes, there are a lot of great ways to get maple into your daily diet. We eat maple every day, often as an ingredient in entrees you might not expect. Maple syrup & maple sugar bake up very similarly to cane sugar. Substitute about ¾ the volume of cane sugar with maple syrup, and reduce the other liquids to accommodate for any extra liquid. In the case of maple sugar, a one-to-one substitution generally works just fine.
What is Pure Maple Syrup?
Pure maple syrup comes from trees, not cornfields. The mighty maple - a tree indigenous to North America that boasts dramatic fall color and sports that iconic leaf - is the source of this sweet elixir. Each spring “maple sugar makers” head out to the native woods of eastern North America to collect the maple tree’s sap. Through a careful process of collection, concentration and boiling, the sap is transformed into the richly flavored amber colored syrup of which we are all so fond – 100% pure maple syrup. Through our commitment to careful stewardship, we can harvest sap from the same trees for centuries without diminishing the resource.
Pure maple contains no preservatives, artificial colors or flavors. It is just one simple ingredient with nothing added. Pure maple syrup is entirely natural and essentially wild - a thoroughly wholesome sweetener straight from the forest to your table.

User questions & answers
Question: | Is the plastic 32 oz container BPA free |
Answer: | Shipping weight is listed as 3# so you can safely assume that it is about 1.25kg (1250g) or slightly more or just under 2.9# dry weight. That includes the container, of course. Mine just came yesterday and we are getting ready to pour out some buckwheat pancakes: can't wait! This is by far the best I have found on Amazon and I have tried several. Just a biscuit corner dipped in it told me it was a step up above previous brands. |
Question: | What is the difference between the dark and amber colored maple syrup? Flavor |
Answer: | Pure maple syrup is not raw. It comes from the sap of Sugar Maple trees, which is unique to North America. Each spring “maple sugar makers” head out to the native woods of eastern North America to collect the maple tree’s sap. Through a careful process of collection and boiling, the sap is transformed into richly flavored pure maple syrup. To see how we make our maple syrup, visit our website at the following link: There is a neat little video at the bottom of the page. http://butternutmountainfarm.com/about/maple-source |
Question: | What is the shelf life |
Answer: | Our 100% Pure Maple Syrup is one simple ingredient - the sap of the North American Sugar Maple Tree. Nutrients naturally found in pure maple syrup, include zinc, potassium, manganese, thiamine, calcium, iron, magnesium, and riboflavin. Pure Maple Syrup is a pure natural sweetener, nothing is added. No preservatives. No flavorings. No artificial colors. The caloric value of maple syrup is 52 per tablespoon, compared to 60 in sugar and 64 in honey. Enjoy! |
Question: | Should I put it in the refrigerator after opening the lid |
Answer: | Here is what I found doing a Google search: For long term storage, the Association says that maple syrup retains its flavor best when kept in the freezer (it will not freeze solid). StillTasty.com indicates that 100 percent pure maple syrup should keep for a year unopened in the pantry, a year opened in the refrigerator, and indefinitely in the freezer. |

Log cabin has been making delicious syrup for 120 years. Minnesota grocer Patrick j. Towel introduced the brand in 1887, and named it in honor of his childhood hero and true American icon, president Abraham Lincoln. President Lincoln grew up in a log cabin, deep in the woods of Kentucky – hence the brand name log cabin, chosen by Mr. Towel to honor Abraham Lincoln. With a history like that, it's no surprise that log cabin continues to be known for tradition at the breakfast table and its delicious taste. An exceptional syrup with a smooth, velvety texture. It is light in the mouth, featuring a subtle caramel and honeysuckle bouquet with a hint of cinnamon and a lingering flavour. It is the lightest of our range and has a fine taste of maple.
Great Harvest - Grade A Dark Robust Taste(medium)
Escuminac Great Harvest is produced in the middle of the season. This is an incredibly refined and rich pure amber maple syrup. Its aromatic profile brings to mind warm, buttered brown sugar, date puree. Flavorful, it is full-bodied, rounded, textured, distinct and syrupy, but not overwhelming, and has a very long finish.

The hundred-year-old sugar bush, which has more than 65 000 taped maple trees stands in Escuminac a village in eastern Quebec, Canada. Swept by sea air from the nearby Gulf of St. Lawrence – this location enjoys a unique climate, ideal for the production of maple syrup.

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this contain high fructose corn syrup |
Answer: | Very good question Miss Mehta. There is no difference in nutritional value between the three different types of maple syrup. The difference is as you mention mainly in taste. Each type is harvested at a different period in the season. Our extra rare is harvested during the first few days of the season, Great Harvest is mid season and Late Harvest right at the end of the season. As the season advances, the color of the syrup gets darker and the taste changes from pure maple to a subtle caramel taste. Thank you again for your question and have a great day! |
