You should also be able to search and find studies that thoroughly test and evaluate baking temperatures, rancidity and oxidation occurrence. For example: American Journal of Clinal Nutrition, Journal of American Oil Chemists Society, Journal of Agricultural Food Chemistry... There are of course other factors to consider outside of these studies such as product quality i.e. proper storage, milling, and handling. I only grind enough seeds that I know will be used within a few days. My nose is very sensitive to rancidity in nuts, seeds, and whole grains. Our nose and tastebuds are perhaps the best test. Don’t eat anything that doesn’t smell or taste quite right to you. And check expiration dates. |

| Answer: | I have enjoyed this product for close to five years. CanMar Grain Products Ltd was rebranded Fee-Fi-Fo-Flax. CanMar owns the special-process 'patent' to roast flaxseeds. This is perhaps the reason why this product tastes and smells so heavenly. However, I feel the quality has changed. In fairness, CanMar Grain Products politely responded to my concern about six months ago, and assures me that their product has not changed, but they would discuss the issue with their 'team.' It is possible that I may have purchased a bad batch last year - over six months ago. Previously these bags were tightly vacuum sealed with ALL of the oxygen removed (not a single seed moved inside their previous vacuum-sealed bags). FRESHNESS is absolutely ESSENTIAL for flaxseeds. This is what has changed in the packaging process in my opinion: There is no longer this tight vacuum. They seem to have eliminated a tight vacuum-sealed bag, relying now on the latest oxygen scavenging technology. A small 'OXYGEN ABSORBING' sachet is placed inside each bag. These sachets are "MGC (Mitsubishi Gas Chemical) Ageless Oxygen Absorbers." They are used to help extend the shelf life of food and pharmaceutical products, retaining freshness, color and taste. They also prevent oxidation of vitamins A, C, and E. I have not purchased TJ's Golden Roasted Flax Seeds for over six months. The last two bags smelled with a touch of rancidity. The smell was not fresh at all. Oxygen absorbers are supposed to help prevent rancidity in sealed containers. My advice is to try the product to see if you like it. If it doesn't smell fresh or taste good when you open the bag, return it. |

The sellers only make a few dollars profit.....if that! Trader Joes items will definitely be cheaper in stores; however not everyone has a Trader Joes by them or the time to shop in store. This makes purchasing on Amazon super convenient and most buyers don't mind paying the price difference for the convenience of having the items they want shipped directly to them.
