Question: This may sound like a silly question but can you put these RAW chia seeds inside drinking water (and just drink it) without any preparations
Answer: Hi V,Yes. Chia seeds may be placed in any cold or warm beverage for consumption. Keep in mind they absorb up to 12 times their weight in liquids and will begin to form a gel after approximately 15 minutes. Prior to drinking, it is best to allow chia seeds to hydrate in water to enhance absorption in the digestive tract. Question: Do you always soak chia seeds
Answer: No, I do not soak them. I either put them directly into my shakes or I make chia seed putting with almond milk, collegan powder, vanilla extract, and chia seeds in a small mason jar, shake it up real good, put in refrigerator, wait 10 minutes, shake up again. And enjoy a few hours later or the next day. Before I eat it, I top off with some almond butter, nuts, blueberries, anything you like. Think of it like overnight oats. You need to play with the consistency whether you like it thicker or thinner.
Question: Can I plant these in a terrarium? My daughter got a terrarium for christmas but the seeds got lost, looking for a brand I can use in my smoothies also
Answer: I haven't tried sprouting them, like on a chia pet. They work great in a smoothie. I put them in my yogurt for a nice crunch. I'm guessing you are aware of their ability to absorb lots of liquid, hence "chia pudding".

User questions & answers

Question: Are these organic? I don’t see any mention of being organically grown... vegan, kosher, natural, non-gmo, is all I see
Answer: Our chia is not organic because we have it in rotation with other crops we use herbicides to produce but we do not use Roundup or Grammoxone on our chia and I would say it is as clean or cleaner than most chia you can buy elsewhere. Even the "organic." In 2015 approximately 83% of the imported "organic" chia tested positive for either Roundup or Gramoxone residue on the seeds. That is because there is very little testing of imported organic product so unethical growers will certify and correctly produce a few acres organically while they produce much more using herbicides which they ship out under the organic certification to obtain a better price. This keeps the price of organic too low for us to be able to offer organic farmers in the US a reasonable price to grow chia. Our chia is randomly tested by the US Food & Drug Administration for herbicide residue and we have never had a test show any residue. We believe our chia is as clean and good as any in the world. Best Regards, Chris Kummer

Organic Black Chia Seeds

Chia seeds are tiny black seeds from the plant Salvia hispanica, which is related to the mint. Chia seeds were an important food for the Aztecs and Mayans back in the day. Chia seeds (salvia hispanica) superfoods are an excellent source of Calcium, Magnesium, Iron, Zinc, Niacin and Vitamins B, D & E. Another area in which chia seeds shine is their high antioxidant content .These antioxidants protect the sensitive fats in the seeds from going rancid. Almost all of the carbohydrates in chia seeds are fiber. This gives them the ability to absorb 10–12 times their weight in water. Fiber also has various beneficial effects on health. Chia seeds are high in quality protein, much higher than most plant foods. Protein is the most weight loss friendly macronutrient and can drastically reduce appetite and cravings. Chia seeds are very high in the omega-3 fatty acid ALA. Chia seeds are high in calcium, magnesium, phosphorus and protein. All of these nutrients are essential for bone health.

Chia seeds are incredibly easy to incorporate into your diet. The seeds themselves taste rather bland, so you can add them to pretty much anything. They can be eaten raw, soaked in juice, added to porridge, pudding, smoothies or added to baked goods. You can also sprinkle them on top of cereal, yogurt, vegetables or rice dishes. Because of their ability to absorb both water and fat, they can be used to thicken sauces and as egg substitutes in recipes. They can also be mixed with water and turned into a gel. Adding chia seeds to recipes will dramatically boost their nutritional value.

  1. Place the strawberries, coconut milk, honey, vanilla, and lime zest in a blender and blend until smooth. Taste and add more honey if desired.
  2. Place the chia seeds in a large bowl, pour the strawberry mixture on top, & whisk thoroughly. Let stand for 10 mins & whisk again.
  3. Cover & refrigerate for at least 4 hours & up to 3 days. Stir the pudding before serving. The longer it sits, the thicker the pudding will become; if you find that it is too thick, whisk in a little water. Spoon into individual cups or bowls and garnish.

Question: Hello, I was wondering if you know if pesticides and/or herbicides were used in the making of the product? Thanks
Answer: Despite what was previously mentioned "organic" DOES NOT mean no pesticides or herbicides have been used. Organic food can, and likely has, been grown with the use of pesticides. The main difference is natural vs artifical pesticides but there is no compelling research (in my opinion) to suggest that natural pesticides are safer than artificial ones.
Question: Where is product is packaged
Answer: Thanks for your question! Navitas Organics Chia Seeds are grown organically in Mexico, Argentina, and Paraguay, and packaged in northern CA.
