12 best portobello mushrooms
Portobello mushrooms, often referred to as portobellos or portobellas, are a popular type of mushroom known for their meaty texture and rich, earthy flavor. Here's what you should know about them:
Variety and Classification: Portobello mushrooms are a mature version of the common white button mushroom (Agaricus bisporus). They belong to the Agaricus genus and are classified as Agaricus bisporus var. portobello.
Size and Appearance: Portobello mushrooms are large and typically measure 4 to 6 inches (10 to 15 centimeters) in diameter. They have a broad, flat cap with a brown color and may have small, dark brown speckles on their surface. The underside of the cap has dark gills.
Flavor and Texture: Portobello mushrooms have a robust, savory flavor often described as earthy, meaty, or umami. Their texture is dense and substantial, making them a popular choice for meat substitutes in vegetarian and vegan dishes.
Cooking: Portobello mushrooms are versatile in the kitchen. They can be grilled, roasted, sautéed, or used in various dishes such as stir-fries, sandwiches, burgers, and salads. Grilled portobellos are particularly popular due to their smoky, charred flavor.
Stuffed Portobellos: One popular preparation method involves stuffing the mushroom caps with a variety of ingredients like cheese, vegetables, breadcrumbs, and herbs. Stuffed portobello mushrooms make for a hearty and flavorful appetizer or main course.
Nutrition: Portobello mushrooms are low in calories and a good source of essential nutrients. They provide protein, dietary fiber, vitamins (especially B vitamins like riboflavin and niacin), and minerals (such as potassium and selenium). They are also known for their potential health benefits, including antioxidant properties.
Cleaning: To clean portobello mushrooms, wipe the cap with a damp paper towel or use a soft brush to remove any dirt or debris. Avoid soaking them in water, as mushrooms can absorb moisture, which can affect their texture when cooked.
Storage: Store portobello mushrooms in a paper bag or a loosely closed paper towel in the refrigerator. This helps maintain their freshness and prevents moisture buildup, which can lead to spoilage.
Culinary Uses: Portobello mushrooms are a popular choice for creating vegetarian or vegan versions of dishes that traditionally contain meat, such as portobello mushroom steaks, burgers, and fajitas. They can also be sliced and used as a pizza topping or added to pasta sauces.
Availability: Portobello mushrooms are widely available in grocery stores and markets, both fresh and sometimes in a canned or jarred form. When selecting fresh portobellos, choose ones that are firm, without blemishes or signs of decay.
Portobello mushrooms are a delicious and nutritious addition to a wide range of culinary creations.Their meaty texture and robust flavor make them a favorite among both vegetarians and meat-eaters, offering a versatile ingredient for various dishes.

Our mushroom liquid cultures are lab procured from the finest samples in the world. Each culture is tested and guaranteed 100% contaminate free, or we will replace it. Each syringe contains a proven high-output isolated sub-strain for maximum yield and minimum incubation time. Liquid culture is mycelium that is growing and suspended in a supplemented liquid. Mushroom growers use liquid cultures because they are highly effective in the mushroom cultivation process. The liquid culture is sold in a sterile syringe that can be used in many different cultivation techniques. You may inject the liquid culture into sterilized grain jars/bags, substrate bags, agar petri dishes, or even another jar containing sugar water to create more liquid culture. For aggressive strains (like oysters) you can even use it to colonize pasteurized substrates directly. Spore Syringes are Different. Spore syringes contain a solution of spores suspended in sterilized water, with each spore having unique genetics. Liquid cultures contain mycelium from a single isolated strain that has proven high quality genetics. Liquid cultures will provide consistency. Spore syringes provide unique genetics of which you would isolate the best performing strains later on. Typically you would only want to use a spore syringe if you wanted to create a new sub-variety of a mushroom species and experiment with genetics, as results are unpredictable as the various strains compete with each other over the substrate and the strains that are produced may not be of the highest quality.
- 100% contaminate free, or we will replace it
- faster, more effective, and more consistent than using spores syringes
- high-yield isolated sub-strain with proven quality genetics
- procured from the finest commercial samples
- can be used to make grain spawn or more liquid culture

User questions & answers
Question: | Your ingredients listed on the web page are off. The soup is called broccoli, but the main ingredient listed is butternut squash. Is is a mistake |
Answer: | We have a 12×30 and we did not have to have any adapters for it. So you should not have to have any either. |
Question: | Can you use microwave |
Answer: | You might be over on the gallons, but to double check. I would go look up the gallons on your pool, it depends on the depth and like the size. They have many websites that do calculations, but this pump max states at 11200 gallons. It does have a two out with one in, and hoses with fittings. If you get it, make sure you read and pay close attention to the directions. But this is a great pump and upgrade, pool is super clean! |
Question: | how many boxes of soup are in this listing |
Answer: | This is the filter and pump all in one. It includes all the hookups and attachments you need to for a Bestway pool. The sand (not included) does all the filtering. |
Question: | Would this work as the base for a green bean casserole, instead of cream of mushroom |
Answer: | Yes it does come with the hoses |

User questions & answers
Question: | Are these mushroom house dried portobello mushroom slices non-gmo / organic / wild |
Answer: | They lump all the "soup' together, I reviewed Potato & Leek, not really soup more of a baste to add that flavor to say chicken.. really thin soup and not very hearty....I prefer Baxters or Heinz Potato & Leek where there is real flavor... not impressed with the soup but maybe you'd like it.. I like thicker soups , sorry can't answer your real question as I wouldn't buy another flavor after tasting the Potato & leek |
Question: | How Much Protein Per Serving |
Answer: | I transfer contents to a soup bowl, then microwave |
Question: | What is shelf life |
Answer: | I see ONE box on this listing. Current price $71.29, divided by $2.23 per oz. = 31.965 oz. or ONE box. I know that $71.29 for one box sounds crazy but don't order until you have asked the seller the same question. |
Question: | Is this going to be back in stock |
Answer: | That's how I've used it. I've thickened it with a mixture of cornstarch and water. It's actually better than the green bean casserole using the traditional cream of mushroom soup. |
