14 best dried anchovies
Dried anchovies are a common seafood product made by drying fresh anchovies, a type of small, oily fish. Anchovies are prevalent in various cuisines around the world and are known for their strong, distinctive flavor. The drying process involves removing moisture from the fresh anchovies, preserving them for longer shelf life and enhancing their flavor.
Key points about dried anchovies and their relation to categories like seafood, pantry staples, and grocery gourmet food include:
Processing and Preparation: Dried anchovies are typically prepared through a process involving cleaning, gutting, and then sun-drying or air-drying the fresh anchovies. The drying process concentrates the flavors and preserves the fish for an extended period.
Usage in Cooking: Dried anchovies are widely used in Asian cuisines, particularly in Korean, Japanese, Malaysian, and Thai cooking. They are a versatile ingredient and can be used in various dishes, including stews, soups, broths, stir-fries, and sauces.
Flavor Profile and Nutritional Value: Dried anchovies have a strong, salty, and savory flavor, owing to their high levels of glutamate, an amino acid responsible for umami taste. They are also rich in protein, calcium, iron, and omega-3 fatty acids, making them a nutritious addition to the diet.
Pantry Staple and Culinary Applications: Dried anchovies are considered a pantry staple in many Asian households and are often used to add depth of flavor to stocks and soups. They can also be ground into a powder and used as a seasoning or incorporated into sauces to enhance taste.
Culinary Variations: Dried anchovies come in various sizes and grades, which can affect their use in cooking. Larger anchovies are often used to make broths and stocks, while smaller ones can be consumed whole or ground into powder for seasoning.
Availability: Dried anchovies are commonly available in Asian grocery stores or international food sections of supermarkets. They can come in vacuum-sealed packs or in bulk, providing flexibility in quantities for different recipes.
In summary, dried anchovies are a versatile ingredient in many cuisines, especially in Asian cooking, and are appreciated for their strong umami flavor and nutritional benefits. They are a staple in the pantry and contribute to a wide array of culinary creations.

User questions & answers
Question: | What type of oil are these fried in |
Answer: | Personal I like to heat the fish a bit to make sure it’s clean to eat. I’ve toast them in toast oven for a few min and the texture would turn more crisp and crunchy than chewy (I also toasted some nuts and mix them together). I don’t think it’s harmful to eat without cooking but I prefer some sort of cooking for better food hygiene. But there’s is a good recipe on the bag perfect for eat with rice. |
Question: | Can anyone recommend a good recipie to use these with? I love anchovies. Id eat them as a snack but open to options |
Answer: | I didn't washed it. Just fry it straight away after taking out from the fridge. To me it seems ok not to wash. |
Question: | just double checking...there is no salt added to these correct |
Answer: | Not that I know of |
Question: | Are the innard/guts also removed (or just the head |
Answer: | Hello, Once you receive the product, you should refrigerate it . |

Question: | Where is it from |
Answer: | Since we are based in NYC operating mom and pop shops in Chinatown, we have sold alot of these to regular customers from all walks of life in America for many years consuming dried seafood. I will ensure all products will comply with other states regulations. I always inspect all items are safe to consume. I am sure that this item is very safe as I have consumed and it is fresh and do not contain chemicals. We do not allow silicia gels which is chemical that contains cancer in the package. I have seen alot of package in dried shrimp and dried anchovy contains silicia gels which is NO NO for packing because they are used to keep it dry but it can lead to exposed to dried food. Our dried seafood contains NO silicia gels. It's from fresh loose pack with no silicia gels and we pack fresh and ready to ship out. |
Question: | Salt content |
Answer: | I have no idea, I will say they are very fresh with a great flavor and not over salted like others I have tried |
