14 best molasses
Molasses is a thick, dark, and sweet syrup-like substance that is a byproduct of the sugar refinement process. It is commonly used as a sweetener and flavoring agent in various culinary applications, including baking, cooking, and even as a condiment. Here are some key points about molasses:
Production: Molasses is produced during the extraction of sugar from sugar cane or sugar beet plants. The juice from these plants is boiled down, and the sugar crystals are removed, leaving behind molasses.
Types: There are several types of molasses, each with its own flavor profile and level of sweetness. The most common types include:
- Light Molasses: This is the result of the first boiling of the sugar syrup and is lighter in color and milder in flavor.
- Dark Molasses: Dark molasses is produced from the second boiling and is darker in color with a stronger, more robust flavor.
- Blackstrap Molasses: This is the result of the third boiling, and it is the darkest and thickest type of molasses. It has a very intense flavor and is often used for its nutritional benefits.
Uses in Baking: Molasses is a popular ingredient in baking, especially in recipes for gingerbread, cookies, cakes, and bread. It adds moisture, sweetness, and a distinctive rich flavor to baked goods.
Flavor and Color: Molasses imparts a unique and complex flavor to dishes, characterized by its deep sweetness with hints of caramel, toffee, and spices. It also adds a dark, rich color to foods.
Nutritional Benefits: Molasses contains various nutrients, including iron, calcium, potassium, and magnesium. Blackstrap molasses, in particular, is known for its relatively high mineral content. It is sometimes used as a natural sweetener for its potential health benefits.
Non-Culinary Uses: Besides cooking, molasses has been used in various non-culinary applications, such as in the production of livestock feed, as a base for some alcoholic beverages, and historically, even as a component of ship ballast.
Storage: Molasses should be stored in a cool, dry place in a tightly sealed container to prevent it from drying out or becoming too thick.
In summary, molasses is a sweet, dark syrup produced during the sugar refinement process. It is a versatile ingredient used in baking, cooking, and as a natural sweetener.Different types of molasses are available, each with its unique flavor and applications.

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this product has pesticides in it |
Answer: | It says nothing about pesticides, it has no preservatives, and it's non-GMO, so I would assume that there are no pesticides. |
Question: | Can it be used for plants |
Answer: | Molasses absolutely IS used for plants, and is an ingredient in many organic plant foods. I'd guess this grade is not as refined as grocery molasses, like other "plant grade" molasses on the market. |
Question: | How thick is it, and can I thin it with water? I'm using it as thickener for a cleaning solution |
Answer: | Its consistency is a little less than honey. I've never thinned it with water but I can't see why it wouldn't work. What in the world are you cleaning that you would use molasses?? |
Question: | Does the label say whether or not there is bpa in the plastic container |
Answer: | In response to the comment about added sugar.... I have to laugh. Molasses is sweet. It is mostly sugar. The label also says the only ingredient is molasses. The 10 grams of "added sugar" is just the sugar content of the molasses in 1 Tbsp. It's labeled that way because adding molasses to the jug is essentially adding sugar to the jug. |

User questions & answers
Question: | per berkeley: molasses today is often made by blending the syrup with a sugar solution, which ensures uniform qual. answer to why different labels |
Answer: | I ordered two different brands of Blackstrap Molasses from vendors on AMAZON- I use it as a dietary supplement for the high iron content. NEITHER ONE's label showed the same amount of iron content on the container, when I got it, as it did online. NO EXCUSE FOR MISREPRESENTATION. This is one product I will not buy from AMAZON online again. Every other order has been very good, or got a quick resolution . |
Question: | Is the current label iron 11% calcium 12% potassium 8%, or iron 25% calcium 20% potassium 380%? I use it for my cancer mix of BS & blackstrap molasses |
Answer: | The says iron 11%, calcium 12 % and potassium 8% with no vitamin D. |
Question: | I would like to know why the company does not put this molasses in a glass jar, or something more stable. My order arrived all smashed and molasses o |
Answer: | Oh my, I would not like it in a glass jar and I have been ordering this since Jan. 2018 and haven't had a problem. |
Question: | Is the iron content 25% or 11%? Confusing as some reviewers state that they have received 11% iron content instead of the listed |
Answer: | Hmmm. It IS confusing. I have 2 bottles, one is older (expired 05/2020), one newer (expires 04/2024), and they’re each different. The older one says “serving size = 1 tablespoon (20g), 50 calories, 25% iron, 20% calcium, 9g sugar, total carbs 13g, 25mg sodium”. The newer bottle says “serving size 1 tablespoon, 60 calories, iron 11%, calcium 12%, 10g sugar, total carbs 14g, 15mg sodium”. I’m not sure if the molasses changed or if the government Daily Values changed... You could try to get in touch with the company. They only have a physical address on the bottle: Good Food P.O. Box 160 Honey Brook, PA 19344 Also, the newer bottle has a “Prop65 Warning” “Not intended for sale in California. |

Answer: | I contacted the manufacturer for the answer to your question and they responded, "Yes, our Supreme Baking Molasses would be very similar to Barbados Molasses. User questions & answers
Question: | Can this product get rid of gray hair I've been reading so many reviews about this products and how people got rid of their gray hair |
Answer: | Well, I can't really say. However, I ordered this product to see if it would help with my IDA (Iron Deficiency Anemia). I started drinking one cup everyday as a tea in the morning. When I went to my doctor to get my blood test done, I told my doctor what I was doing to see if it would increase my blood count. When I did receive the blood results back, my blood count was low. I can't say that it wouldn't have worked, because I didn't do it long enough. My doctor's appointment was within a couple of weeks and I had just started drinking the tea. Now, with the product helping getting rid of gray hair. I can't really say that either. I am 43 years old and I don't have hardly any gray hair (two or three strands within my hair). My hair is jet black. Most people ask me do I color my hair. I have never colored my hair. My sister is 44 and my cousin is 45. We all grew up together. They have a lot of gray hair. I don't know if it's because of the iron liquid medication that I was taking or is it because of the tea or is it just hereditary. I don't know and I can't really say. I can say one thing.....I don't have a lot of gray hair. I still drink one cup every morning now and then. I Googled a recipe online. I hope this helps. However, you could try a study by drinking the tea, jotting the time, days, months you drink it, and see if it actually works. |
Question: | What does unsulphered mean |
Answer: | unsulphered means "of the finest quality". It is made from the juice of sun-ripened cane and the juice is clarified and concentrated. Molasses from the first boiling is the finest grade because only a small amount of sugar has been removed. |
Question: | I assume 2pc means two bottles? Thanks |
Answer: | Yes that's what it means |
Question: | An you please take a picture of the back label? Please |
Answer: | Yes |

User questions & answers
Question: | is this product water soluble digestion |
Answer: | I have read reviews on Amazon where people say they mix it with smoothies and water. Myself, I sip it straight from the bottle with coffee -- just chase the molasses down with a sip of coffee. Very easily digested. |
Question: | Is it a glass bottle or plastic |
Answer: | The bottle is plastic. |
Question: | Is it good for baking bread |
Answer: | Yes especially cookies, it will give it a ginger bread kinda taste. |
Question: | Is the bottle BPA free |
Answer: | It doesn't say so on the bottle. However, it is fairtrade certified, hand harvested, greene cut cane ( fields not burned), and sugar mill is energy self sufficient. Bottle has #1 recycling, a check mark, which I don't know the meaning of and a circled U. If a company is that green, I can imagine they fill the product into a BPA free bottle. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is mild the same as lite |
Answer: | My sense is NO, mild is NOT the same as lite; it has to do with the intensity of the flavor... how concentrated it is, the amount of "edge". I just tried Googling "Brer Rabbit Molasses", it will take you to their site -- and you'll see a section for Q&As and within it, you will see their answers that will likely help you even more than mine ! (for whatever it's worth, I LOVE their MILD; however, I'm SURE I'd find their FULL FLAVOR waaay overwhelming. Scroll a little futher down ... I've cut-n-pasted their answers for you: Good Luck ! Q: What are the different grades of Brer Rabbit molasses? A: Brer Rabbit molasses comes in three grades: Mild Flavor, Full Flavor and Blackstrap. • Mild Flavor: Lightest color and is the sweetest, is used to sweeten hot cereals, yogurts, or hot drinks, like coffee, tea or hot cocoa • Full Flavor: More concentrated and has a richer flavor than Mild, that is used in gingerbreads, cookies, pies, cakes, and glazes • Blackstrap: Bold, robust flavor used in slow-cooked dishes, such as baked beans or barbeque sauces. Blackstrap is also an excellent source of Calcium and Magnesium and a good source of Potassium. |
Question: | My bottle has no label? Did this happen to anyone else? Now what do I do, it says no returns |
Answer: | If it is a food product, for future customer safety, no returns would be acceptable |
Question: | is this price a mistake? I just bought it at Woodmans for |
Answer: | Probably. Sometimes the Brer Rabbit brand is hard to find but definitely cheaper at the store. |
Question: | Is the Brer Rabbit molasses unsulfered |
Answer: | Yes, it is unsulfered |

Question: | Why does it say “incl. 10g of added sugars” on ingredient list??! Does this product have added sugars |
Answer: | Hi and thanks for your question. On May 20, 2016, the FDA announced the new Nutrition Facts labeling rules for packaged foods. This new label now includes a line for “Added Sugars” to be listed on the nutrition facts panel. Added Sugars are a sub component of total sugars and indicates how much sugar has been added to the product during processing or packaging. This includes granulated and crystallized sugars as well as sugars from syrups and honey. We have not changed our sugars or sweeteners in any way, so nothing “extra” has been added to our delicious organic sugars and sweeteners. For further information about the FDA Labeling Guidelines, please visit their website: https://www.fda.gov/Food/GuidanceRegulation/GuidanceDocumentsRegulatoryInformation/LabelingNutrition/ucm385663.htm If we can be of further assistance, please contact us at [email protected] |
Question: | What is the country of origin |
Answer: | I just looked on the bottle itself: the country of origin is Paraguay. Oh, but the most important issue is the substance is Certified Organic. Hope this helps you. |
Question: | Is the bottle glass or plastic? If plastic, is it food grade / BPA-free? Thanks |
Answer: | The bottle is made of plastic. The plastic material is pretty hard and tough, not the soft type of plastic. I do not know whether the plastic is food grade / BPA-free, as there is no indication on the bottle label on the type of plastic that the bottle is made of. |
