11 best pu erh tea

Pu-erh tea, also spelled as puer tea or pu'er tea, is a unique type of fermented tea that originates from Yunnan Province in China. It is known for its distinct flavor profile and potential health benefits. Here's what you should know about Pu-erh tea:

  1. Fermentation Process: Pu-erh tea undergoes a unique fermentation process, which sets it apart from other types of tea. This process involves microbial fermentation of the tea leaves after they have been dried and rolled.

  2. Types of Pu-erh: There are two main categories of Pu-erh tea: raw (sheng) and ripe (shou or shu). Raw Pu-erh is naturally fermented over time, resulting in a milder flavor that evolves with aging. Ripe Pu-erh, on the other hand, undergoes accelerated fermentation to achieve a more earthy and robust flavor.

  3. Flavor Profile: The flavor of Pu-erh tea can vary widely depending on factors like the type of tea, the region it comes from, and its age. Generally, it is known for having an earthy, woody, and sometimes slightly smoky taste. Raw Pu-erh tends to be more vegetal, while ripe Pu-erh has a smoother and darker flavor.

  4. Aging: Pu-erh tea is unique in that it can improve with age, much like fine wine. The aging process can mellow out the flavors, making the tea smoother and more complex. Some Pu-erh teas are highly prized for their aging potential, and vintage Pu-erh teas can be quite valuable.

  5. Health Benefits: Pu-erh tea is believed to offer various health benefits, including aiding in digestion and metabolism. It contains compounds like polyphenols and antioxidants that may support overall well-being. Some people also consume Pu-erh tea for its potential weight management properties.

  6. Preparation: Pu-erh tea is typically brewed using loose tea leaves, rather than tea bags. The leaves are rinsed briefly with hot water to awaken them and then steeped in hot water for several minutes. The steeping time and water temperature can vary depending on personal preference and the specific type of Pu-erh.

  7. Tea Storage: Proper storage is crucial for Pu-erh tea, especially for those who want to age it. It should be kept away from direct sunlight and excessive moisture. Some collectors store Pu-erh cakes or bricks in special conditions to encourage aging.

  8. Tea Samplers: Tea samplers often include a variety of Pu-erh teas, allowing enthusiasts to explore different flavors and aging stages. These samplers are an excellent way to discover your preferences within the world of Pu-erh.

  9. Tea Culture: Pu-erh tea is deeply ingrained in Chinese tea culture and is often associated with tea ceremonies. It has a long history and is considered a traditional and respected type of tea in China.

Pu-erh tea is a unique and fascinating beverage known for its complexity, potential health benefits, and aging potential. It appeals to tea connoisseurs and those interested in exploring the diverse world of Chinese tea.

User questions & answers

Question: Has anyone used this tea for hair growth and had results
Answer: I have heard of a woman who had significant hair regrowth from spearmint capsules. I am hoping this tea will help me. Probably depends on what’s causing your hair loss. If hormonal, this should help.
Question: My nettle arrived, and in spite of your description saying it is 100% from the usa, why does my 16 ounce bag state: raw from bulgaria
Answer: My 16 oz. bag of Nettle Tea says "Raw from Bulgaria" on the front of the bag. My 16 oz. Gunpowder Green Tea says "Raw from China" on the front of the bag. Both bags say they were "distributed from FGO in Seattle, WA" so it appears they were shipped to the USA. I wonder if they were shipped in barrels and packaged in the USA or packaged in China. Either way, I am not happy to buy food from China.
Question: What Are The Benefits Of Using This Product
Answer: Nettle is considered a blood-purifier because it supports the liver and kidneys, while gently detoxing the body. One of the liver’s jobs is to process hormones, so a healthy liver leads to proper hormone balance. Therefore nettle may be beneficial in instances of hormonal imbalance with menstrual issues such as endometriosis, heavy menstrual flow, menstrual cramping, and irregular menstrual cycles. Nettle helps to decrease heavy menstrual flow by making your period lighter and reducing the severity of cramps. https://storydawning.com/nettle-leaf-for-menstrual-issues/
Question: I could not locate your organic certification on the ccof and usda.gov websites. can you supply supporting documentation
Answer: It clearly states that they are certified organic by the CCOF, California Certified Organic Farmers, a leader in Organic certification. I suggest you contact them after researching their legitimacy. My cousin in California, who has worked for a dispensary for many years and is into organics, told me CCOF is a very important organic certifier. He also said that FGO has a good reputation thru his contacts before I ordered but I didn't double check.
Question: With this help me get waves if I’m white with straight hair
Answer: Nope it’s fake 💯
Question: Can I apply to my hair twice every month? If no how often can I use it
Answer: I wouldn't suggest it. I bought this and never used it. The chemicals may damage the hair if you apply it twice a month. If you do decide to do so, make sure you watch the timer on the second application.
Question: Is this the real product
Answer: Nope this product his fake 💯

User questions & answers

Question: Does each teabag come in an individual packet
Answer: If you would like to know of any other tea that you're interested by Numi & want the full ingredients, just check out their website - Numitea.com. ALL ORGANIC - white tea, cinnamon, orange peel, hibiscus, allspice, ginger, lemongrass, schizandra berry, dried lime. If you enjoy chai, then you'll enjoy this tea. It's fruity spicy, a nice, light white tea, hot or cold. Don't worry, you can barely taste the lime, the ratio of the ingredients placed in this tea is just right. I was a bit hesitate to try this tea b/c the ingredients don't look tasty together, but it is!
Question: Why is there a warning listed about this product possibly containing lead
Answer: Yes, each tea bag is housed in their own individual packaging.
Question: Does it have sugar
Answer: This is a white tea so there is not much caffeine. However, I would not drink this tea after 4:00 PM as it might interfere with sleep.
Question: The title said full leaf, so is the tea ground or more like a loose leaf tea
Answer: Yes, it is caffeinated. However, on the box, it says it has "lower caffeine". It is not dark like english breakfast or earl grey, a little less strong black-tea wise, but really good. Its more floral than fruity.

User questions & answers

Question: Is the bambo leaf meant to be tied back on
Answer: Traditionally bamboo culm sheath was used as transportation package, it protected pressed tea from rubbing and excessive humidity. We didn't suppose it as package for everyday use, cause it can't protect tea from very stong odours. We recommend to use sealable bag or tin for minicake storage after removing this outside wrapper. On the other hand, if you keep this tea in a special cabinet, you can leave bamboo culm sheath, just fill the open end tightly with jammed paper.
Question: can you eat this tea
Answer: Short answer is no. We understand that words "fermented" , "ripe" (another translation is cooked) and the origin of the tea are bit misleading. But post-fermented pu-erh is not intended for eating. Some minorities in Yunnan and Myanmar do eat tea leaf, but the fresh tea leaf is fermented using another process which is similar to the process of making sauerkraut but not tea. Besides ripe pu-erh leaf is almost fully oxidized and fermented so it is not tender/pleasant enough to be eaten like some green teas. For example, green Longjing tea is used for cooking fish in Hangzhou cuisine, but as far as we know no one is using ripe pu-erh in cooking.
Question: How do I use it. Drop it into boiling water or use a loose tea holder
Answer: You can use both ways for brewing pu-erh tea. Just note that pressed tea becomes loose leaf in brewing process. So if you put pressed tea directly in boiling water you should think about of some kind of filter. For pressing and brewing convenience this very tea was pressed from tea leaf cut into small (approximately 3-5 mm long) pieces. Some more general recommendations: Water temperature for pu-erh brewing should be above 200°F and it can stand boiling in the water. As you deal with pressed form of pu-erh, so the first thing to do is break (smash) mini-cake into smaller, even pieces. It's recommended to rinse pu-erh before brewing: pour small amount of boiling water through the leaf (if using filter type brewer), or brew the leaf with a small amount of boiling water for 5-10 sec. and discard this "first" brew. After that you can brew it depending to your own taste and style. 1/2 of tablet is enough for 10-13oz of water 1-3 min steep, if you like stronger brew then use 1 tablet, longer steeping time.
Question: Will it continue fermentation if I use it later and get better taste
Answer: Yes, post-fermentation process never stops until tea if fully fermented. But the extent and results of such kind of fermentation are different for shu (ripe or black) and sheng (raw or green) pu-erh. This product is ripe pu-erh, so it was already post-fermented during wet-pile fermentation process. We fermented it to mid-high fermentatuon degree (80-85%) so aging of this pu-erh won't change it's taste dramatically as in case of raw pu-erh. Main sign of aged ripe pu-erh would be cleaner (brighter) brew and a bit milder taste with more pronounced woody notes.

User questions & answers

Question: Seller, when does this expire, for 100 tea bags i want to be aware if expires Jan or Feb
Answer: Purchased 9-17. Expires 5-19.
Question: How long is Prince of Peace Pu-erh tea aged
Answer: This is a question for the vendor. I suggest you email Prince of Peace using the "Contact Seller" option. Personally, I don't care how long my teas have been aged. I judge them only by their flavor, color, aroma, and aftertaste. I can only tell you that it's a lovely tasting tea...very mellow and smooth, with a beautiful, dark amber/brown color with a hint of red. It steeps quite quickly. We have enjoyed it straight as well as with a few spoons of table cream and a bit of stevia sweetener. There is no aftertaste as there is with some teas, and no waxy looking residue on our clear glass teacups after drinking the tea. (I have found several teas, especially green tea, that leave a very noticeable film on our teacups. I imagine if they leave that kind of a film/stain on glass, they must do the same to our teeth. This is not the case with Prince of Peace Pu-erh tea.)
Question: Is this black puer ("ripe puer") or green puer ("raw puer
Answer: to the best of my knowledge, "Raw puer" vs "ripe puer" meaning that the raw puer (NON FERMENTED) tea is harvested and stored naturally. The tea has a fresh smell to it but it can be bitter as your drink it, but it has a sweet after taste. The RIPE puer (FERMENTED TEA) goes through a piling process which causes it to have a bolder flavor
Question: caffeine content
Answer: A typical cup of Pu-erh tea has about 5-15 mg of caffeine. Hope that this helps!

User questions & answers

Question: hi!! this might sound weird,, but how long would this tea last me
Answer: I use about 8 to 10 gram each time. That makes a first strong 8 oz cup and at least a 2nd and 3rd brew before it is too weak for my taste. You can look at the weight of the one you are buying to see how many cups you can get out of this. For a 250g package, I get 25 cups of first brew and at least another 50 cups of 2nd/3rd brew. How long it lasts would depend on how often you drink and how strong you want your tea to be. Hope this helps.
Question: How long has this tea been aged
Answer: 10 yrs

User questions & answers

Question: Caffeine mg
Answer: Looked on the package and it doesn't state caffeine content.
Question: How many mg caffeine
Answer: The bag does not say but I went online to get you an answer. They say the longer it is allowed to ferment. The lower the caffeine levels are and it said that a cup should vary from 70 to 90 mg/cup. I myself am very sensitive to caffeine. That is why I had to give up coffee and I loved a good cup of strong coffee. I cold brew mine with equal parts Pu-Erh, Oolong, and Green. Don't ask my why but I just like it. And I have not had any trouble with with this combination. I pray that this helped with your question!
Question: Is there any indication how long this tea is aged for
Answer: Doesn’t say but I’ve had mine a year or so. I keep it in an airtight container and it still is wonderful.
Question: Is it ripe (Shu) pu-erh
Answer: Beg to differ with the other person who answered. This is ripe, very dark, and the real thing. No fancy container necessary! May not taste like "TeaLyra's pu-erh" (never tried it, so I wouldn't know) but it sure does taste like the best pu-erhs or bolays I've had in my life. Been going to China Towns for a long, long time.

User questions & answers

Question: is this a fully caffeinated tea
Answer: I am not entirely certain how to answer this question, as it was posed. This tea is NOT de-caffeinated, which you can taste immediately upon brewing. The process of decaffeinating tea, like coffee, is done by soaking the product in a lye solution for 90 days in abandoned petroleum storage tanks just outside Paris, France. (This is the ONLY facility for decaffeinating tea and coffee in the world, hence the higher prices!)This tea is NOT decaffeinated, and tastes GREAT!!!
Question: would this tea work well for iced tea
Answer: My experience is that Numi packages the highest quality teas and blends. If you like the flavor profile of the tea, you will probably like it iced. I usually use the Golden Chai (without dairy) for a great spicy iced tea. I've also iced a couple of their green teas.
Question: Where is it made
Answer: The product description lists the sources: it is a blend of "organic, non-GMO, and fair trade certified black teas – malty Assam (that is N Eastern India) robust Ceylon (today called Sri Lanka), brisk Chinese Keemun and hints of floral Darjeeling (from W India foothills). . ." You can search Numi online to learn their manufacturing headquarters.
Question: having a little trouble with the 1lb bag, which I bought after loving the one sample of this tea in the assorted box. does anyone have any tips? ty
Answer: I use it 1-2 spoons (depending on how strong one likes the tea) with 3 (or 4) YOGI Mayan Cocoa Spice tea bags! It's delicious! And the 1lb bag won't last that long after drinking it often through the winter!
