12 best green tea loose leafs
Green tea loose leafs, often simply referred to as green tea leaves, are the unprocessed, whole tea leaves from the Camellia sinensis plant. They are known for their numerous health benefits, distinct flavor, and versatility. Here's what you should know about them:
Processing: Green tea leaves undergo minimal processing compared to other types of tea. After harvesting, they are withered, rolled, and then typically heat-treated through methods like steaming or pan-firing. This helps to preserve the natural green color and fresh flavor of the leaves.
Varieties: There are many varieties of green tea, each with its own unique taste and aroma. Some popular varieties include Sencha, Matcha, Dragonwell, Gyokuro, and Gunpowder. The flavor can range from grassy and vegetal to nutty and sweet, depending on the specific type.
Health Benefits: Green tea is often praised for its health benefits. It is rich in antioxidants, particularly catechins, which have been linked to various health advantages. These include improved heart health, reduced risk of certain cancers, enhanced metabolism, and potential weight loss aid.Green tea is also known for its potential calming and stress-relieving effects due to the amino acid L-theanine.
Brewing: Brewing green tea is a delicate process. The water temperature should be around 175-185°F (80-85°C), and steeping times can vary depending on the type of green tea. For example, Sencha may be steeped for 1-2 minutes, while Dragonwell might require 2-3 minutes. It's essential to follow specific instructions for each variety to achieve the best flavor.
Loose Leaf vs. Tea Bags: Loose leaf green tea is often preferred by enthusiasts over tea bags. Loose leaves are typically of higher quality and offer a more robust flavor. They also allow for better control over the brewing process. However, tea bags are more convenient and portable.
Storage: To keep green tea fresh and preserve its flavor, it's important to store it properly. It should be kept in an airtight container away from light, heat, and moisture. This will prevent the leaves from becoming stale or losing their aroma.
Caffeine Content: Green tea contains caffeine, though less than black tea and coffee. The exact caffeine content varies among different types and brands of green tea. If you're sensitive to caffeine, consider choosing a variety with lower caffeine levels.
Culinary Uses: Besides being a popular beverage, green tea leaves can also be used in cooking and baking. They can infuse dishes with a subtle, earthy flavor. Matcha, a powdered green tea, is often used in desserts, lattes, and smoothies.
In summary, green tea loose leaves are prized for their fresh flavor, health benefits, and variety. They require careful brewing to achieve the best taste, and their versatility extends beyond just being a beverage. Whether you're looking for a soothing cup of tea or exploring culinary possibilities, green tea leaves are a versatile and delightful choice.

Answer: | Our dragon well green tea is not caffeine free. Thanks for your interest in this product. |
Question: | stems |
Answer: | I have heard of a woman who had significant hair regrowth from spearmint capsules. I am hoping this tea will help me. Probably depends on what’s causing your hair loss. If hormonal, this should help. |
Question: | How do you prepare this tea? Do you need a brewer or some type of cloth wrap |
Answer: | It’s saying it’s 100% organic certified in the US. |
Question: | How many cups i can make out of one bag |
Answer: | Nettle is considered a blood-purifier because it supports the liver and kidneys, while gently detoxing the body. One of the liver’s jobs is to process hormones, so a healthy liver leads to proper hormone balance. Therefore nettle may be beneficial in instances of hormonal imbalance with menstrual issues such as endometriosis, heavy menstrual flow, menstrual cramping, and irregular menstrual cycles. Nettle helps to decrease heavy menstrual flow by making your period lighter and reducing the severity of cramps. https://storydawning.com/nettle-leaf-for-menstrual-issues/ |

Product description
World famous Gunpowder green tea from China. It derives its name from the Chinese word "Zhucha", meaning Pearl Tea, and from the tightly rolled shape of the leaves.
Although there are several grades available in Pearl tea, the most famous are "Pinhead Gunpowder" and "Temple of Heaven Gunpowder". In both cases, three factors determine the high quality:
Body: Should be small, tightly rolled leaves.
Regularity: The size of the pearls should be consistent.
Uniform dark color.
The Pearl is from the small town of Pinshui in Zhejiang province, China. Zhejiang is the world's largest producer of green tea with a rich tea culture. Pearl tea is made in early spring. In Morocco and Russia, it is blended with fresh mint and sugar and often made iced. We offer this blend as Moroccan Mint.
- 100% Organic Green Tea Leaves
- Sweet, warm sugar aroma with a hint of char. Fruity, classic green tea flavor
User questions & answers
Question: | Can this be cold brewed 10 minutes |
Answer: | According to the description "...Indian high-grown" |
Question: | the description says loose leaf tea, the picture says pearl/gunpowder, which is it |
Answer: | I have been brewing Kombucha with this tea for years now with no problems but I use a combination of organic black tea (50%), this brand Silver Needle white tea (30%%) & organic green tea (20%). To have a healthy scoby you should add black at least every other brew. You should also not use teas with additives or added oils because they throw off the balance of yeast & bacteria which is why I stay away from blends. But I am not sure why white tea cannot be used unlimited as long as you add black tea or switch over to black tea st least every other brew. |
Question: | The tin Amazon sent looked completely different (worse) than photo and what I’ve purchased from this company before. Is this product authentic |
Answer: | I'm not a tea expert still learning but I found the Gunpowder whole leaf tea from Davidsons produce a nice green brew with a true green tea flavor. But again I'm still learning about tea varieties. I am not blown away by the taste but this is just green tea right? Its not bad. I bought it a couple times and it is a good value for organic whole leaf green tea. vs chopped tea bag blends. |
Question: | how much caffine is in a cup? I used about 15 leaves per mug |
Answer: | Just want to say that if you're talking about the black organic tea from Ceylon, Ceylon is not China. It's Sri Lanka. You are right to be concerned about heavy metals in tea, most especially from, China. Check out this article on the matter, specifically Table 4 if you read nothing else. This is what I use as a guide for where to source my teas. https://www.hindawi.com/journals/jt/2013/370460/ In a nutshell, buy your organic green tea from Sri Lanka and your black tea could be from India or Sri Lanka, although that decision is a little less clear based on the chart mentioned above. |

Product description
Founded in 1972, Stash Tea Company originally operated out of an old Portland Victorian style house, supplying loose herbal teas and bulk herbs to natural food stores. Starting in 1975, the company broadened its focus to include bagged teas and then began to sell a full line of traditional, specialty blend and herbal teas directly to fine restaurants and through a mail order catalog to consumers. Today, Stash Tea Company is one of the largest specialty tea companies in the United States. The company derives its name from an entertaining aspect of tea folklore. In earlier centuries, tea was a valuable commodity traditionally transported by clipper ship. The ship’s captain often was presented with some of the finest teas for his personal use. This supply was his “stash,” stowed carefully as his “private reserve.” Today, the term is still used to denote anything put away carefully because of its preciousness.

User questions & answers
Question: | The instructions say do not boil the water too long before adding the tea because it will result in a flat taste. Why is that? Thanks |
Answer: | I would say no. The leaves are tightly wound. The hot water unravels them. I steep in hot for 20 mins. I don't think you would get much flavor in cold. I have however brewed it hot and then iced it. It's good that wayou too. |
Question: | Silly question but can I use this in a coffee maker with a filter |
Answer: | The leaf tea was hand rolled into pearl (ball) shape. Therefore, it is call pearl. Gunpowder green is the tea color. The tea is not bag packed, it sells as loose tea in a can. |
Question: | What grade tea is this? Whole leaf? Broken pekoe? Do they look like leaves or is this mostly crumbly and grainy |
Answer: | My experience has been positive. I have ordered this tea on several occasions and have always received a consistent quality product which was well shown in the the photo reprentation. |
Question: | What is a country of origin for this tea |
Answer: | Not a real standard to tell but the rule of thumb is 35 to 40 mg/8 oz cup, I measure by teaspoon 1-2could be more or less |

Answer: | Thank you for your question. We have updated our brewing instructions for this tea to the following: Brew 1-2 tsp (2g) in 8 fl. oz. of 170-180°F water for 1-3 minutes. Tea must be brewed at a minimum of 170°F for at least 1 full minute. We recommend using an infuser for brewing; remove it prior to drinking. If you have any additional questions, please reach out to us at [email protected] and we would be happy to help! |
Question: | Is this tea certified kosher |
Answer: | Yes! I've made my tea this way for years. You will need to experiment a bit to find out how much tea to use to get the strength you want. Good Luck! |
Question: | Has anybody tested this for lead lead content? due to high pollution, consummables from china likely have high lead content even if "usda organic |
Answer: | Hi. I would say it's very broken pekoe, but it's not itty bitty pieces or fannings. So, while it's not the gourmet tea I personally import from China, I like it for the price. Sometimes I can't afford the TOL stuff. I like it as a budget tea. Of course I would drink golden monkey every day if I were made out of money. I have been happy with all of the loose stash teas. Robert |
Question: | Is this tea from china or japan |
Answer: | This answer also appears on other Stash products on Amazon, so to avoid confusion, if buying the Stash Kopili Estate loose-leaf tea, it is only from the Kopili tea plantation, in Assam, a state in northeast India, often called the foothills of the Himalayas. It is a full-bodied black tea, and production methods for black teas vary, from air-cured to roasted, hand processed or machine packed, fannings (used in bags or sachets), broken leaves or whole leaf teas, tips included or not. |

User questions & answers
Question: | can i steep tea more then one time |
Answer: | This tea has not been Kosher certified. |
Question: | Question for the seller please. Are these whole tea leaves? Thanks |
Answer: | Thank you for asking this question. I am also wondering about the exact same thing as you are. I will not purchase this tea uNeil I get a clear answer. Thank you for asking. |
Question: | How many cups of tea can you get from 8 oz. container |
Answer: | Do you research, and you'll see that even if you ignore all the Chinese food contamination scandals, air pollution in China may mean green tea has risky levels of heavy metals, lead, and other airborne pollutants. Being organic, which means pesticides weren't used, isn't good enough for buying tea from China, if you're consuming tea regularly for the health benefits. |

User questions & answers
Question: | are these teas organic |
Answer: | I do every day. I brew a cup for myself using about 1 1/2 tablespoons on the tea. I steep it in about 4 cups of almost boiling water. I’ll steep it for about 3-4 minutes and fill my travel cup. I then add more water to my tea pot and let that steep for another 5-10 minutes. I strain it and chill for iced tea. It’s wonderful. So I get a full cup of hot tea and about 4-5 cups of iced with each steep. |
Question: | Truly organic? latest bag does not say organic on it, the order prior to this one did say organic...what gives |
Answer: | No, they're finely cut; out of all the companies that sell loose-leaf sencha green tea, this is one of the best; flavorful after only 30-second brewing. |
Question: | What do you store your loose tea in |
Answer: | That's a little difficult to answer, but I think I get at least 40. It depends upon how strong you want your tea to be. I like to mix this tea with just a little bit of Oolong. I make a small pot that gives me two mugs of tea and I think I use about a tablespoon of Sencha and half a teaspoon of Oolong. I like my tea on the mild side. The last time I bought a big bag of organic Sencha and I refilled this container. I have enough left in the bag to refill this again. I hope this helped! |
Question: | Are these full leaves, or are they ground down so that you have to use a strainer/filter |
Answer: | Our Lychee green tea has a Japanese green tea base as well as our Japanese ceremonial grade matcha. |
