10 best thai iced tea
Thai iced tea, also known as "cha yen" in Thai, is a popular and refreshing beverage that originates from Thailand. It's a sweet and creamy drink that combines strongly brewed black tea with a blend of aromatic spices and is typically served cold over ice. Here are some key details about Thai iced tea:
Ingredients: Thai iced tea is made using a combination of ingredients, including black tea leaves, crushed tamarind seed or orange blossom water for fragrance, and a mixture of spices such as star anise, cardamom, and cloves. Sweeteners like sugar, condensed milk, or evaporated milk are used to give the tea its characteristic creamy and sweet taste.
Preparation: To make Thai iced tea, black tea leaves are steeped in hot water along with the spices to infuse flavor. The tea is then sweetened with sugar and blended with condensed milk or evaporated milk to achieve the desired creaminess. Once prepared, the tea is allowed to cool and is then poured over a glass filled with ice.
Presentation: Thai iced tea is known for its striking appearance. It typically has a rich, amber color and a layer of creaminess on top. When served, it often features a decorative swirl of sweetened milk on the surface, making it visually appealing.
Variations: While the classic Thai iced tea is the most common, there are variations that include ingredients like coconut milk or different types of sweeteners. Some people also like to adjust the level of sweetness to their preference.
Serving: Thai iced tea is a popular street food and restaurant beverage in Thailand. It is commonly served in local eateries, food stalls, and even upscale restaurants. It's a favorite drink to enjoy alongside Thai cuisine.
Flavor Profile: Thai iced tea is known for its unique combination of flavors. It has the boldness of black tea, the warmth of spices, and the sweetness and creaminess from the added milk and sugar. The result is a harmonious balance of sweet and spicy notes.
Popularity: Thai iced tea has gained popularity worldwide and is often found on the menu of Thai restaurants in various countries. Its distinct taste and eye-catching appearance have made it a favorite among people who appreciate flavorful and exotic beverages.
In summary, Thai iced tea is a delightful and aromatic beverage made from black tea, spices, and sweeteners, typically served cold over ice. Its unique flavor profile and striking appearance make it a beloved drink in Thailand and beyond.

User questions & answers
Question: | What is the caffeine percentage in this |
Answer: | It contains chemical fake vanilla flavoring with several dyes mixed into the loose tea. This is standard of traditional Thai Tea producing the famous orange color once milk is added. Traditionally, Thai Tea has star anise and cinnamon spices in the mix, as well |
Question: | How much tea can 1 bag brew |
Answer: | From their website they recommend this recipe for Thai Tea:Thai Tea 2 TablespoonHot Water ¾ CupSugar 1 TeaspoonCondensed Milk 3 TeaspoonI have found 2 teaspoons work per one cup of water and taste like restaurant quality. I have a "tea spoon" that equates to 1.25 teaspoons I use for loose tea, and I used it last time I made this. So that was about 2.5 teaspoons and while a bit stronger it was still good. I rambled a bit, but hope it helps. |
Question: | Can you please explain how to make it? I keep trying different suggestions (boiling amount and steeping time) but it tastes watery and not sweet at al |
Answer: | If you're looking for the powder form that you just add water to; it's Big Train Chai. We drink both, but this is more potent enjoyable spice flavor. The Big T is also good as a frozen chai, i.e., Starbucks, but you'll save a lot more with this and enjoy the true flavors of spice. We use 1/2 c. tea to an 8 cup coffee press and let steep overnight, stir well to let out all flavor, then dissolve 1/2 c. sugar & press, keep concentrate in fridge until use. Fill 1/2 mug with concentrated tea mix you made and other 1/2 hot water or cold water and cream, yum! Great also for iced tea. Big hits at parties especially if you add the tapioca bubbles. |
Question: | Is it leaves or just powder |
Answer: | I can't remember cause I throw the package away. It's grounded tea leaf |

User questions & answers
Question: | What are the ingredients besides black tea? Natural or artificial flavors? Yellow dye as in some Thai tea brands |
Answer: | Good question Redd E. We reached out to our growers in the Pacific Northwest and are told that pesticides are used on our chickpeas. We are unsure of which types of pesticides are used because the crop is grown on a series of farms, are harvested, collected, processed and graded collectively. We have also learned that this is an acceptable practice for most, if not all, commercially grown crops in the area. The exact response is below for your reference: " Our growers only apply pesticides to the fields and the growing chickpea crop which are registered by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for use on such a crop. In general, we have found the U.S. EPA to be as strict on pesticide use as any regulatory agency in the world. On an irregular schedule our chickpeas are sampled and tested for pesticide residue by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. These tests have never resulted in residues of pesticides in excess of the tolerance allowed in the EPA Registrations of the pesticides. Usually there have been no pesticide residue detected." |

Answer: | Hello - We have checked with our supplier and, NO, the Dried Garbanzo Beans have not been irradiated. They are NON- GMO as well. Thank you ! |
Question: | Is it possible to use coconut milk or sweet condense milk for this product |
Answer: | It comes in one large plastic bag. |
Question: | Does anyone know why the 20 bag “limited edition” is so much more expensive (3 times as much) than the 23 bag tea? Is there an actual difference |
Answer: | The Garbanzo Beans we sell are a non-GMO product. Than you for your inquiry. |

Answer: | No because they come wrapped individually in plastic |
Question: | Are there any plans for a decaf version to be released? I've seen decaf Assam, so I'm assuming it's possible |
Answer: | I just use this for regular tea. It can be on the strong side for taste/flavor. But still delicious. |
Question: | I want to see there is no yellow No. 6 or anything else so thanks for listing the ingredient but can you add picture of ingredients on the package |
Answer: | I’ve been using one tea bag per 10-16 oz of water. You can put as much or as little water since the flavor is quite strong. It’s really at your discretion how strong you want the tea flavor. But for me, as stated above, I just guesstimate it and depends on my mood. |
Question: | When will you be coming out with more organic tea products |
Answer: | 1. Place one tea bag into cup or mug. Add hot water. 2.Let steep 2-3 minutes until tea dark orange. Add sweetener. 3.Let cool & serve iced. Customize your tea with milk or lime. The three simple steps are written on the flaps of the box. |
