11 best decaf coffees
Decaf coffee, short for decaffeinated coffee, is a type of coffee that has had most of its caffeine removed. It is an ideal choice for individuals who enjoy the flavor and aroma of coffee but want to limit their caffeine intake. Here are some key points about decaf coffee:
Decaffeination Process: There are several methods used to remove caffeine from coffee beans. The most common methods include solvent-based processes (using chemicals like methylene chloride or ethyl acetate), water-based processes (such as Swiss Water Process or carbon dioxide extraction), and the use of activated carbon filters. Each method has its own advantages and disadvantages in terms of flavor retention and environmental impact.
Caffeine Content: While decaffeinated coffee is not completely caffeine-free, it typically contains significantly less caffeine than regular coffee. The exact caffeine content can vary depending on the brand and the decaffeination method used, but it is generally in the range of 2 to 5 milligrams per 8-ounce cup, compared to the 95 milligrams or more found in a regular cup of coffee.
Flavor and Aroma: Decaf coffee is known for its milder and less bitter flavor compared to regular coffee. However, the specific flavor profile can still vary depending on factors such as the type of coffee beans used and the roasting process. Many decaf coffees are designed to preserve the original coffee's taste as much as possible.
Health Considerations: Decaf coffee can be a good choice for individuals who are sensitive to caffeine or want to reduce their caffeine intake. It is also suitable for pregnant women who should limit their caffeine consumption. Some studies suggest that decaf coffee may still offer certain health benefits, such as antioxidants, without the stimulating effects of caffeine.
Varieties: Decaf coffee is available in various forms, including whole bean, ground, instant, and even in flavored varieties. You can find decaf versions of popular coffee blends and single-origin beans, allowing you to explore a wide range of flavors.
Brewing: Decaf coffee can be brewed using various methods, such as drip brewing, espresso, French press, and pour-over. The brewing process for decaf coffee is similar to that of regular coffee, and it is often recommended to use the same water temperature and brewing time to achieve the desired flavor.
Packaging: Decaf coffee is typically available in various packaging options, including bags, cans, and single-serve pods. The choice of packaging can affect the freshness and shelf life of the coffee, so it's important to store it properly to maintain its quality.
In summary, decaf coffee is a popular choice for those who want to enjoy the taste of coffee without the stimulating effects of caffeine. It comes in various forms and flavors, and the decaffeination process is designed to retain as much of the coffee's original flavor as possible.

User questions & answers
Question: | what does the safety warning mean |
Answer: | I can't answer this question because I have graduated to a stronger Maxwell House blend: the Intense Bold variety. If you want a stronger brew, this is what you should try. I checked the container of this blend and can't find any warnings/ Geo. |
Question: | Hi. How is the decaf processed ? Chemical or water ? Thank you |
Answer: | General Foods (Maxwell House) uses heated and pressurized carbon dioxide to dissolve the caffeine -- another "natural" process, since carbon dioxide is a natural byproduct of roasting coffee. I looked this up online and the information came from a newspaper article.. and the source of information is from General Mills. |
Question: | Are the filters individually wrapped |
Answer: | The "cannister" that you see in the illustration holds individual filter "packs" of coffee, and each "Pack" will brew four to six cups of coffee depending on how much water you use. The "packs" are sealed rounds constructed of coffee filter paper filled with pre-measured amounts of Maxwell House coffee. All the rounds come in the canister shown, but the "rounds" ( coffee filter packs of coffee) are not individually wrapped inside the canister; that is, all 4 or all 10 discrete filter packs of coffee share the canister space in one stack. The canister closes tightly, and I find the coffee stays fresh for a very long time. Hope this helps. JD |
Question: | how many filter packs are in each bundle? it is very confusing |
Answer: | 4 boxes,10 coffee filters per box ,40 filters total per order |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does anyone know if this is considered a black coffee? I can only drink black coffee while fasting and was wondering if I could drink this |
Answer: | Yes, this is a black coffee. The only ingredient listed is 100% Arabica coffee. |
Question: | Are these cups past expired date |
Answer: | I have ordered these several times and have been very satisfied. Only the last order came in a brown cardboard box and the date on each k-cup was 2014. Question: | does this work with Keurig |
Answer: | Not true. They don’t work on my keurig 2.0. |
Question: | Does the 84 count k cup also come in decaf |

User questions & answers
Question: | can i use this with keurig |
Answer: | Hello. Since this is a bag of ground coffee, we assume you are using a refillable cup. Of course using any ground coffee will technically work, but it would be better to buy No Fun Jo whole bean, then use your own grinder to grind the beans to a level that you like best. It really depends on your tastes but even brewers can vary from machine to machine. |
Question: | A couple of he photos show the Swiss water method trademark on the package, while others do not. Is this truly made with Swiss water method |
Answer: | Yes it is. It has always been SWP but added the logo to package at a later time. |
Question: | Is this unflavored coffee or is it blueberry and milk chocolate flavored |
Answer: | Hi Ben. This is unflavored, 100% organic arabica coffee. There are no additives. |
Question: | Truly decaf |
Answer: | Not just decaf. I can't drink most decaf coffee, because the remaining caffeine is still too much for me. I've tried all different kinds and spend days recovering. NO FUN JO DECAF must have SO LITTLE (or maybe none) that it doesn't bother me at all! I can drink a whole pot and not have any of the issues I have from other "decaf". Plus, this is one of the best tasting coffees I've ever had. I've spent YEARS avoiding coffee, and suffering without my black gold. I'm like a new person having coffee back in my life. This is the best coffee ever!! |

User questions & answers
Question: | What is the expiration date for the 96 count sold by Amazon |
Answer: | Expiration dates don't seem to really matter for k cups. I had a pack of 18 that expired like 6-8 months ago. I drank all 18 and I was fine. I wouldn't push it though. But they should be good for a long time. |
Question: | Is the 72 K-cup all coffee |
Answer: | Yes. I ordered the decaf and caffeinated 72 k-cup count and they came in 6 boxes of 12 in each box. |
Question: | Am I buying 72 cups of regular coffee, or does this include differing flavors of coffee? Would be helpful to me if the details clearly stated this |
Answer: | it only contains what you picked, if you picked regular you will only get regular. there is a drop down box you select from. |
Question: | Has anyone with a new Keurig 2.0 used these k-cups? Are they compatible |
Answer: | Here's how to determine which k-cups are compatible with the Keurig 2.0: On the front of the k-cup box at the very bottom there is a black square. Inside of this square it reads: For use in all Keurig k-cup brewers. At the top of this black square there is a check mark in a circle. These can be used in your 2.0. If looking at an individual k-cup, first is the brand name: Green Mountain, Gloria Jean's, etc. Next is the flavor: Breakfast Blend, Butter Toffee, etc. Next there is a black circle. Inside of this circle are the words KEURIG brewed. The only k-cups that work with my 2.0 are the ones with this logo, no exceptions! Sure hope this helps clarify the situation! |
Product description
This is a decaf coffee of one true love and three names. We created it expressly for a Seattle restaurant in 1975, naming it Jake's Blend. And people loved it. So many, in fact, that we began hand scooping and blending it to order in our stores, where it was known as 80/20 Blend. The love was so strong that we finally made it official, calling it Verona after the city that inspires so many. By any name, this is a thing of pure romance.
- Decaf Caffè Verona coffee is well-balanced and rich with a dark cocoa texture
- While the look of the package has changed, this is still the same great-tasting Starbucks coffee you know and love
- Enjoy the Starbucks coffee you love without leaving the house
- For finest taste, use cold, filtered water and store ground coffee in a cool, dark place
- Each pack includes 6 12-ounce bags of ground Starbucks coffee
User questions & answers
Question: | I would like to order the Sumatra 6 pk today March 17, 2020. What is the expiration date on the packaging |
Answer: | Only the supplier can tell you what the expiration date on current stock is. I recently purchased a different coffee, and the expiration date is January 2021. |
Question: | How is this coffee decaffinated |
Answer: | Starbucks uses the methyl chloride method of decaffeination, except for their Sumatra coffee line (which uses the Swiss water method). |
Question: | Can I use this with a cold brew maker |
Answer: | I do cold brew in a french press and it turns out great! |
Question: | this is for 6 pieces of 12 ounce bags right |
Answer: | if you get the decaf variety for example it is 3. 1 of each of the 3. not 6. The title is confusing so you need to read closely under the PRODUCT DESCRIPTION. They are usually more accurate than titles. |

Question: | I'm rather confused: the best by date on my packaging is 09/14/21.I tried the beans and the taste is very off.Has anyone experienced anything similar |

User questions & answers
Question: | Why aren't there any "5 Star" reviews in the past year? Reviews from over a year ago aren't helpful if the taste has changed as I saw in 1 comment |
Answer: | I have been ordering this coffee for several years and still love it. I recently switched from using an AeroPress to cold brew and it is still my favorite every day blend. I have tried others and aside from their own Grizzly Claw I have not been able to find another blend that satisfies my taste buds as well. Glady give it 5 stars |
Question: | How long the time I can store this coffee |
Answer: | I have stored UNOPENED, SEALED 5-pound bags of several different brands of coffee — and this is the important part — in the back of the BOTTOM basket in my freezer successfully (so far!l) for almost seven — that's right SEVEN — YEARS, now. I "Sharpie" the date on each bag upon the start of what may be a long, cold "slumber" in the bowels of my "not-so-cryogenic" freezer, only to choose an "oldie but goodie" from the collection at some far future date. I have yet to be disappointed from opening and enjoying the exquisite aroma, flavor, smoothness, and even "elegance" of the contents of a 5 or 6-plus year old bag. I have done this ONLY with UNOPENED, SEALED *WHOLE BEAN* coffee. I did try some bags of unopened, sealed GROUND coffee, but couldn't get them to "survive" long term freezer storage more than about 18 months before their respective "flavor", aroma, and "smoothness" profiles started to noticeably diminish. |
Question: | What is the different between Kick ass dark & Three sisters medium |
Answer: | Just a different roast. I can't tell you the taste difference because we've always drink the Kick Ass because of it's low acidity. |
Question: | are the beans in this coffee wet processed, and therefore free of mold |
Answer: | Fair trade coffee is not guaranteed to be free of mold or mycotoxins. Bad beans can slip through and even often do. Mycotoxins are present in a large percentage of coffee beans and make it into the final drink. However, their levels are far below the safety limit. Unfortunately, fair trade beans are all over the place on the spectrum. It's nice that the market "drives" prices, but in reality, we need to get away from the system they are using currently. Kicking Horse has pretty good coffee though. For almost 10 bucks for 10oz, I'm gonna try to just support locally roasted beans. |

Question: | Is this decaf swiss water processed |
Answer: | It does NOT say on the bag. I looked everywhere. It really is good coffee and I trusted this statement in the description. "NATURALLY DECAFFEINATED: We decaffeinate our coffees via a Natural Water Process that uses water & filters, never chemicals. You'll get all of the great coffee flavor with none of the caffeine jitters." |
Question: | Are there articificial flavors in the Hazelnut Creme coffee |
Answer: | Hi, my name is Sarah from San Francisco Bay Coffee. While we use only natural flavoring in our organic line, we use both natural and artificial flavoring in our San Francisco Bay, flavored coffees. If you have any other questions or concerns please feel free to contact us at [email protected]. |
Question: | Is this coffee oily? Did anyone use it for automatic espresso machine |
Answer: | I would not. These are too oily for the super automatic machines that grind the beans for you. It will start to clog and is impossible to clean the oils out to make it function correctly again. In sure its fine for those that have standard espresso machines and grind the beans in one of those little press grinders, but otherwise I wouldn't risk your $1K plus machine. |

Analyzing
We analyze each and every shipment of coffee twice – once before it leaves its country of origin and again when it arrives at our Lincoln, CA facility. This careful attention to the coffee we receive ensures it’s of the best quality for you!
Cupping
After the coffee is roasted, we prepare a tasting session. We start with 8.25 grams of roasted ground coffee, add 150 ml of 200-degree water, let it steep for a few minutes, and then begin tasting.
Roasting
Roast level determines the strength of your coffee. Every minute of the roasting process is critical in meeting our quality standards. From 12-20 minutes, a temperature change happens, taking each bean from raw to perfection.
