Basic solutions taste Bitter and turn Red Litmus Paper to Blue. I am not familiar with a little trick to help remember the properties of acids, but they are Sour (think about pickles,) and turn Blue Litmus Paper to Red. If you're interested, Amazon sells Litmus Paper, a bottle of 100 strips of both Red and Blue for $1.35 at this link: United Scientific Supplies LPB100 Litmus Paper (Pack of 100) by United Scientific Supplies More common is pH paper which is more complicated, but will give you the approximate pH of a particular solution by comparing the color change on the test strip to a color chart. |
