Answer:	Personally I would not, but we live in New England, in an area where the weather is too unpredictable. If your weather is more even, its most probably sturdy enough, if you cover the tv well.

Answer:	I don't think so. Given my assumption that the gas spring only pressurizes in one direction (up, in a standard configuration), if you turned the whole unit upside down then cranking up the tension on the gas spring would only push the monitors further down. I don't think that cranking the pressure down on the gas spring would lift the monitors. I could be wrong, but ... I think I'm right. Also, it appears that the stem cannot be disconnected from the base, so you couldn't flip it over to achieve the same upward pressure in a upside down configuration.
