I have a Blu-Ray player that has both RCA (white, red, yellow cables) and HDMI output. My TV has both RCA and HDMI inputs, but I had to temporarily disconnect the HDMI cable from the TV so the it would recognize the RCA cable, thus giving me the Closed Caption. Closed Caption is not the same as subtitles.

Answer:	The Majority Scholars Compact DVD is region code free, i.e.. it accepts disks from country’s using. PAL and NTSC are the most common. The television receives information to display the picture along with the sound, that is the function of the DVD player. One can play disks from the USA that are NTSC format and someone in the USA can play my disks that use the PAL format on their NTSC TV receiver using a Majority Scholars Compact DVD. My player connects using the RCA plug leads. The one in the USA uses the HDMI lead.
