It was worthless so got out the unit and tried it on a DC telephone line from a hydronic zone valve to the water heater and it measured .46 amps (probably in milliamps) on the meter. Then switched it to the AC line and clamped around a line leading to a 500-watt work light and it measured .05 amps (which should have been no more than 15A. I think the difference has to do with the base as the DC amps should certainly be less than the AC amps. Anyway it does measure but had to learn how to use it.
