Answer:	Yes you can, however the output power will drop drastically (form 5 to I think about 2W) with no indication on the display - it would still show “H” for High power. With the included battery pack though (which is essentially 5 1.2 NiMH AAA batteries in series) it achieves 5W transmit power. Which means if you buy it because of 5W output you must use battery pack. However battery pack does not last long. It is only 700mAh. Radio consumes 42mA on standby. So about 16 hours standby time if you don’t transmit. Charding time on the other hand is 12 hours. Make your own conclusions.

Answer:	There are certainly many different choices available to folks regarding radio choices. Many consumers, however, fall into the trap of believing the misleading advertising that various manufacturer’s use to help sell their products, especially when they are in panic mode due to a natural disaster (like an earthquake) or (currently) various lock-down scenarios due to the latest overseas virus. One frequently used example of this buying trap are the claims of 35 to 50 mile range from 1/2 watt UHF FRS/GMRS handheld radios with non-removable antennas (frequently seen on various Cobra, Midland, Motorola, and Uniden radios sold at various big box stores or on the internet). What that means is that if one individual is standing near the cliff face on a tall 9,000 ft. high mountain and his friend is doing the same thing 35 miles away (with nothing between the two mountains but air), then they “may” get the 35 mile range as advertised. When both individuals are at ground level, normal range is reduced to a 1/2 mile (or less) depending upon obstructions that may be in their way.

The 4-way power is this: it has a handle you can turn to charge it, that's 1; it has a solar panel for charging, that's 2; it has a lithium ion (or something) battery that you can plug into the wall to charge, that's 3; and you can also put 3 AA batteries in it to power it, that's 4. 4-ways to charge it. I liked this radio, but wish I had bought the digital one for a few bucks more.

Answer:	These devices have the ability to communicate with any Walkie Talkie tuned to the same channel. they have 36 channels and 121 privacy codes. They are not locked to each other. I have used mine with a buddy's set of Motorola Walkie talkies and they work fine together. I believe I have had around 8 different devices on the same channel and everyone was able to communicate with each other.
Question:	Why does it say 30 mile range if it only reaches 3 to 4 blocks in city & open space is a couple miles? Seems like dishonest advertising
Answer:	It's hard to answer this question without adding some basics of radio. These gadgets (FRS Band) operate @ 462+ MHz and indeed is close to "line of sight" (with no obstructions) use, as is everything in this frequency range - this is one of those "Mother Nature is a Bi&$%" things. Couple that with their 500 Mw (1/2 watt) output and it's easy to become disappointed with the range offered. Remember, manufacturers love to tout the best case scenario for their products.Bottom line, these are kiddie toys unless paired with a more powerful (and licensed, as I am) GMRS (Ground Mobile Radio Service) base station using a decent antenna. Answer:	I'd stay 5' apart while doing so. Loudest cafe I've been in is the King's Road Cafe ... 1/2 mile east of Beverly Hills and 5 block east of Cedars Sinai and the Beverly Mall on Beverly Boulevard in LA. This is a bustling, rustic place that roasts it's own coffee beans and has the best coffee I've ever had in the USA ... the equal to a typical coffee in Switzerland ... $3 for a HUGE pink cup (1/2 coffee and 1/2 steamed milk). And the food is fabulous and reasonable (try well-done salmon atop a veggie salad). The crowd is eclectic ... you may see well-known entertainers at lunch (Renee Zellweger used to hang there). But the noise is DEAFENING! Better to snag a tiny outside table on the sidewalk, just feet from the traffic. And parking is on the street and sparse. Great fun, tho ... just watch out for young gang bangers at night who sneak up and grab rich ladies' bags off their chairs at the outdoor tables ... saw this once. So at night, be sure to eat INSIDE.

Question:	I can only hit two where I live. Is the extra 3 watts going to gain any range
Answer:	ANTENNA ANTENNA ANTENNA The extra watts will do less to improve transmission and reception than a quality antenna. As others have said, to increase your signal strength at the receiving radio by one S unit you have to quadruple the power output. The difference between the UV-5R standard radio and the "8 watt" "high power" radios is only a doubling of power. If you are on the move use the Nagoya 771 antenna (and watch you don't poke out your eye). If you are stationary, a homebrew 2 meter dipole or the Ed Fong antenna will significantly improve your transmission and reception. Amateur Extra HAM instructor VP local HAM club
Question:	what kind of range can I expect
Answer:	With the included antenna, you will get about 10 kilometers on open area land. About 5 kilometers in suburban settings. In urban settings, aabout a kilometer or two. In a boat, a bit further than 10kilometers. With the Nagoya extended antenna, you can make 20 kilometers, more or less, on open ground. However, use an external antenna on the roof of a building and you can double that range! Power does increase range. But, antenna increases range far more than more power.
Question:	I am trying to receive frequencies in the 800mhz range but it will not allow me to enter
Answer:	You can program these for whatever frequencies you want by downloading CHIRP and modifying the radio drivers with a text editor... Then just change the frequency range to 900mhz or whatever you want... I would not suggest trying to transmit at those frequencies but people have had some success with receiving frequencies out of band that way... Question:	Which frequencies will I be required to become licensed for? How do I know which repeaters I might use and their associated membership fees? Thank you
Answer:	You cannot use this radio in any unlicensed frequency. It is not type accepted for any radio service and is therefore illegal to sell, advertise, market, or ship to anywhere in the US. It is probably legal to use in a Ham band if you have a ham license. Ham licenses come with some great benefits, such as being able to use un-aproved radios, it is well worth the effort to get one. BTW, I have two of these radios. They work about as well as a UV-5R, of which they are a derivative They just over-powered a 5 watt radio to make it spit out 8 watts. It gets you VERY little extra distance and the transmission is really really dirty. It blows all over the 2 meter bands. If you want to see what the FCC does to out of service marketing Google "FCC DA-18-980A1". This radio has no legal use in the US except on the ham bands by hams. It is very illegal to use for MURS and FRS, and not even OK for FMRS. It transmits so dirty it is pretty obvious to anyone with a good HR rig with a display or an FCC truck that you are using a BF-F8HP. It's got a rather unique signal signature. If you want a Baofeng get one of these. They are all certified part 90 which makes them legal to sell and ship, and no questions about using them for Ham use. And get a ham license, it really opens up your options. Question:	How much current (mA) does the charger output produce
Answer:	I haven't had it for a year yet but have left it in a drawer for several months and took it our recently and it was still charged. All you would have to do is crank it again if it wasn't charged ! This little lite is really cool. I love it. I keep it in my nightstand just in case I need it ! Get a couple of them. I bought some for fun gifts .
Question:	Would like to know how long the flashlight can be used w/o recharging please. If just having a power outage, I'd like to be able to read. Thanks
Answer:	It’s not 200 lumens. They explained in the description that it isn’t very bright; 200 lumens is -very- bright. I’d say this light is maybe about what your phone light puts out.
Question:	Can this charge a phone and play the radio or flashlight at the same time
Answer:	The MECO flashlight is a little smaller and has a solar panel on the side. Also the crank is on the side where the energizer has is on the bottom.
Question:	Is this item Water Resistant
Answer:	I would say it is weather resistant at best.It is an inexpensive flashlight made in China. It is not something I would count on to save myself in a post apocalyptic world.
