Answer:	We just completed a 3000 mile roadtrip and besides distance problems, (over 2 miles apart we lost reception. However, we did not mess with the squelch and that probably would have maximized distance but we didn't want the background noise) , the cobra's worked great. I understand it has a Bluetooth feature but we did not use it as the passenger was assigned to communicate with the other car. Worked well to communicate gas, food, and potty stops.

Answer:	I don't think so unless your car has a 110v socket which many newer models do have. Perhaps as a reader has suggested you can charge it using the micro USB port, but I don't know how that converts the 12v that comes out of your car into the 5v that the walkie talkies run on.

Answer:	They work perfectly for us through trees & hills & underground. We use them to communicate between two houses, & they even work from the cellar underneath the garage over to the next house. They work as far into the forest as we have walked from the house (not measured distance.) we leave them on all the time, & the batteries last about a week for our usage. Clear audio, easy to use.

Answer:	Yes you can, however the output power will drop drastically (form 5 to I think about 2W) with no indication on the display - it would still show “H” for High power. With the included battery pack though (which is essentially 5 1.2 NiMH AAA batteries in series) it achieves 5W transmit power. Which means if you buy it because of 5W output you must use battery pack. However battery pack does not last long. It is only 700mAh. Radio consumes 42mA on standby. So about 16 hours standby time if you don’t transmit. Charding time on the other hand is 12 hours. Make your own conclusions.

At UHF frequencies (and with a decent antenna), you’ll normally get around 1 mile of range for every 1 watt of power on transmit, so a 1/2 watt big box store FRS/GMRS radio is likely to get only 1/2 mile of range, nowhere near the 35 to 50 mile claims shown on the box in large type (with the phrase “under optimum conditions” shown in very small type). What that means is that if one individual is standing near the cliff face on a tall 9,000 ft. high mountain and his friend is doing the same thing 35 miles away (with nothing between the two mountains but air), then they “may” get the 35 mile range as advertised. When both individuals are at ground level, normal range is reduced to a 1/2 mile (or less) depending upon obstructions that may be in their way.

Answer:	I called the FCC. If the radio goes beyond 2 watts, even if you are only using the lower-power channels, you still need to spend the $70 for the 10 year license. immediate family can use radios with your license (and you on the channel). GMRS will make for a better experience. I would just get it to be safe.
