14 best lp audio interfaces

LP audio interfaces, also known as record player interfaces or turntable interfaces, are devices that allow you to connect a vinyl record player (LP stands for "Long Play," which is a type of vinyl record) to modern audio equipment, such as computers or speakers. These interfaces serve as a bridge between the analog output of a record player and the digital or modern inputs of audio equipment. Here are some key points about LP audio interfaces:

  1. Purpose: The primary purpose of an LP audio interface is to convert the analog audio signal from a turntable into a format that can be processed or played through modern audio systems or devices.

  2. Connectivity: LP audio interfaces typically feature various input and output ports to accommodate different types of turntables and audio equipment. They may have RCA or phono inputs for connecting the turntable, and USB, audio jack, or other output options to connect to a computer or speakers.

  3. Analog-to-Digital Conversion: One of the main functions of an LP audio interface is to convert the analog audio signal from the turntable into a digital format. This allows you to record and process the audio using digital audio workstations (DAWs) on a computer.

  4. Software Compatibility: Many LP audio interfaces come with software or drivers that are compatible with popular recording software or digital audio workstations. This enables users to capture and edit the audio signal from the turntable on a computer.

  5. Phono Preamp: Some LP audio interfaces come with built-in phono preamps. A phono preamp is essential for amplifying the low-level signal produced by a turntable's cartridge, which is necessary for proper playback and recording.

  6. Sample Rate and Bit Depth: LP audio interfaces may offer different sample rates and bit depths for recording audio. Higher sample rates and bit depths can result in higher quality audio recordings.

  7. Grounding and Noise Reduction: Some LP audio interfaces include features to reduce noise and interference, such as grounding options to minimize unwanted hum or buzz in the audio signal.

  8. Playback and Monitoring: In addition to recording, LP audio interfaces often have options for direct playback through connected speakers or headphones. This allows for real-time monitoring of the audio signal.

  9. Compatibility with Different Turntables: It's important to ensure that the LP audio interface is compatible with the type of turntable you have, as there are different types of cartridges and outputs.

  10. Cost and Quality: LP audio interfaces can vary widely in terms of cost and quality.Higher-end models may offer more advanced features and better audio fidelity.

When choosing an LP audio interface, it's important to consider factors such as compatibility with your turntable, the type of recording or playback you want to do, and any specific features or capabilities you require for your setup.

Connection hints:

Do not connect a turntable directly to your computer. The signal from a turntable must be passed through a phono pre-amplifier or a receiver with a “phono” input that provides phono amplification. Otherwise, it will be too quiet and will also sound "tinny" due to incorrect equalization.

Do not plug stereo equipment into your computer’s “Microphone” port. This port is usually designed only for low level, mono microphone input. It will produce distortion if you connect phono amplified output. Use the “Line In” port if you have one (on some laptops or other portable computers, the "Mic" port can be switched to a line-level input).

The fastest, easiest way to get analog audio into your computer. Click to enlarge.

S/PDIF optical output and headphone out with volume control.

Includes software such as XT Software's energyXT for recording right out of the box.

PC and Mac Ready

This ultra-compact, USB-powered device lets you connect your PC or Mac computer to virtually any piece of audio gear. It gets its power from your computer's USB bus, so no external power supply or batteries are required. And the UCA222 requires no special setup or drivers--just plug it in to a free USB port and start recording.

Versatility

The UCA222 features two analog mono inputs for connecting any line-level device, such as a mixer or tape deck, and two analog mono outputs for connecting active speakers or studio monitors. On the digital side, the UCA222 provides USB connectivity and an additional S/PDIF optical output for direct analog-to-digital conversion. The stereo headphone output has a dedicated level control and allows you listen to either the input source or the computer output.

Plenty of Options

When used as a professional interface between a mixing console and your computer, myriad options become available. Some of these might include connecting the UCA222's RCA outputs to the TAPE INPUT jacks of your mixer or active monitors, or directly into the input channels of the mixer. Connecting to mixer input channels gives you access to equalization and allows you to use the AUX Send features of your mixer to build extremely versatile monitor mixes for your recording sessions.

Tons of Free Software

Because you'll want to take full advantage of the UCA222's podcasting and recording potential we've included a massive software package including Audacity, Podifier, Juice, Podnova and Golden Ear. User questions & answers

Question: Will this device be able to take a stereo signal, have it processed by a linux machine and then output the modified stereo signal to it's RCA outputs
Answer: If the device is plugged into the linux machine via the USB cable, it will do this for you. With this hookup, it will produce a 2 way signal, even simultaneously, 1 going into the computer, 1 coming out from the computer. If need be, it’s even capable of looping an output signal back in, say to a recording app on your computer. Just make sure you flip the little black monitor switch to the off position to eliminate distortion, and the signal looping back in will be crystal clear and strong.
Question: Do I need to buy a separate cable to use this product? I'm not really sure how the I/O system works. Can someone explain? Thanks
Answer: Not sure of your intended use for this product.I bought the UCA222 because the earphone jack on my Dell laptop went bad. It worked really well for my needs, it has a USB plug that connects to the standard USB port on my laptop. Then I connect my earphones to a standard plug on the device. No other cable required for me.
Question: Can you connect to a USB power supply and use the analog to S/PDIF output
Answer: I don't know about the S/PDIF but I suspect it won't work very well. I tried using the analog in to headphone jack using a USB power supply and it sounded terrible. I thought it would be a way around having to use a computer and it didn't work. Once I plugged the UCA222 into a laptop instead of a power supply it sounded way better.
Question: Can I connect 5 of these to get 10 independent audio output channels generated by the computer via usb
Answer: There's nothing technically preventing you from connecting 5 of these to get 10 independent audio outputs. If your software supports it, your computer will just see them as 5 individual audio cards. The problem your likely to run into is your computer does have a limit on how many USB devices can function simultaneously (USB Bandwidth). One way around this problem is to use a Quad USB PCI Card, that has 4 USB port and each one in it's own controller. The next thing you will need to consider is how many PCI lanes you have (will determine how many USB controllers your PCI bus can support) Hope this helps.

User questions & answers

Question: Does mvi work standalone , not connected to smartphone/laptop etc, instead connect 5v charger, input from instrument/mic, you hear by headphone out
Answer: Hi Lea, I haven't experienced any background noise from the room while transferring any audio. I transferred a few audio cassettes directly into Apple Quicktime audio on my Mac without any noise. The recordings seem to be based on the quality of the original tape. Good luck!
Question: Can this take a direct line level send output from a sound board, or is the signal level to high
Answer: audio evolution, fl mobile
Question: shureplus motiv app" is available to enhance the mic inputs. does this app also work on the giutar input? does it all work with garage band? thanks
Answer: I assume you meant to say "stereo output" not "input." I don't use Audacity because I've already been using Sound Studio. On Sound Studio it shows the separate stereo signals. I assume Audacity would too. The cable simply works to adapt the rca plugs to USB.
Question: works with smule sing
Answer: Hi, as long as the Chromebook has a USB-C input and you have a USB convertor, the Audio Capture Card Device should work for standard audio conversions (from a cassette deck, for example). But the USB Audio Capture Card Device doesn't have a phono convertor on it. If your turntable has a standard RCA stereo cable output and converts the signal from vinyl to analog audio, this might work. I use a separate USB convertor for vinyl record conversion to digital audio files. Good luck!

LP-6W 6.5" Powered Studio Monitor - White

KALI AUDIO

Based on 77 reviews Check latest price

Product description

Accurate sound from your studio monitors no matter where they’re placed in the room.

For the aspiring music maker looking for a professional solution to mix their music and reference their tracks, Kali Audio's LP-6 Lone Pine 6.5-inch Studio Monitors are an excellent tool. This monitor is designed to deliver transparent sound for creators working across all genres and features Boundary EQ settings to optimize the speaker's response depending on where it is placed in your room. An advanced waveguide, large voice coil and precision tuning mean this monitor will sound great in any space.

The LP-6 audio monitor is designed so you can hear every detail of your mix. Nothing is boosted or suppressed to cover flaws in your tracks, so you will be able to mix with critical precision to mix with confidence and create incredible sounding finished productions. This detailed sound is, in a large part, owed to the monitor's 3-D Imaging waveguide. This waveguide allows you to hear a 3D soundstage from a stereo pair of monitors.

By matching the shape of the waveguide to the interactions of the high and low-frequency drivers, this waveguide produces a stereo image that is wider, taller and deeper than the space where the speakers are placed. The LP-6 accomplishes this by ensuring that the speaker's reflected sound matches its direct sound. Every time you hear a loudspeaker, you're hearing both the direct sound from the speaker and reflections from the speaker's signal bouncing off of objects in the room. When those reflections are congruent with the direct sound from the speaker, listeners perceive a better sound overall and are able to make out very subtle details like where microphones are placed in a room. When done well, the stereo image will be three-dimensional. This gives users a very high degree of confidence in their mix. It allows them to mix faster and produce better mixes overall.

  • 3D IMAGING WAVEGUIDE- Allows you to hear a 3-D soundstage from a stereo pair of speakers.
  • DUAL LAYER VOICE COIL- The voice coil on the LP-6 studio monitors allows the speaker to have very high excursion, resulting in clearer sound with lower harmonic distortion, and exceptional dynamic range.
  • LOW NOISE PORT TUBE- The LP-6 has the clean, punchy bass of a front-ported speaker with very low noise from the port tube.
  • BOUNDARY EQ- Kali Audio’s signature Boundary EQ settings help you achieve optimum sound in your recording environment while maintaining neutral sonic reproduction in a variety of settings.
  • HIGH OUTPUT AUDIO MONITORS- With 85 dB continuous output at 2 meters (roughly 6 feet,) and 20 dB of headroom, the LP-6 is plenty loud for almost every 1 or 2 person listening space. This includes home studios, editing bays, and most control rooms.

User questions & answers

Question: Would you suggest the factory foams are a better fit than buying a separate set of isolation foams
Answer: If you're talking about Windows media player, the answer is yes. I keep a file where i save all my mp3 music and drag and drop it into my media player. I think it then gets converted to its own format but the info and tracks remain.
Question: So what’s the deal with the hiss? Do they all do that or is it a setup issue? Can it be resolved
Answer: No, that input is used to play another audio source through your Aiwa. If you're looking to digitize old cassette tapes, the DigitNow does have a 1/8 audio plug. This can be plugged into the headphone jack on your Aiwa (depending on the headphone jack, you may need a 1/8 to 1/4" adapter) to transfer your music to your computer. You will need to keep the volume somewhat low, so the sound doesn't become distorted.
Question: Should i get these or the adams ax
Answer: 3ft or 36in
Question: Are these sold as a Pair or individually
Answer: Check on the Audacity wiki site online. There may be some information there to help with settings for your computer.

Product features

Kali's debut LP-6 & LP-8 studio monitors are designed to give you world-class power and accuracy without breaking the bank.

Kali Audio's Lone Pine Series studio monitors are designed to allow you to hear every detail that's happening in your mix. This starts with an exceptionally accurate frequency response. Whatever is present on your mix is what you'll hear in these monitors. Nothing is boosted or suppressed to cover flaws or try to sound more pleasing. With the LP-6 and LP-8, you can mix with more confidence, and you can also be assured that your mix will translate as best as possible to whatever systems your audience is using.

Advanced Imaging Technology

The 3-D Imaging Waveguide allows you to hear a 3-D soundstage from a stereo pair of speakers. By matching the shape of the waveguide to the interactions of the HF and LF drivers, this waveguide produces a stereo image that is wider, taller, and deeper than the space where the speakers are placed. The LP-6 accomplishes this by ensuring that the speaker’s reflected sound matches its direct sound. Every time you hear a loudspeaker, you're hearing both the direct sound from the speaker, and reflections from the speaker's signal bouncing off of objects in the room. When those reflections are congruent with the direct sound from the speaker, listeners perceive a better sound overall, and are able to make out very subtle details like where microphones are placed in a room.

When done very well, the stereo image will be three-dimensional. This gives users a very high degree of confidence in their mix. It allows them to mix faster, and produce better mixes overall.

ACCURACY

The single most important aspect of a studio monitor is its accuracy. A good studio monitor should present the material it’s playing faithfully, allowing you to make critical decisions that you know will translate to all the systems that your work will ultimately be played on.

POWER

Both models use 40W for the 1” soft dome tweeter. The LP-6 uses 40W for the 6.5-Inch woofer, and the LP-8 uses 60W for the 8-Inch woofer.

EASE OF USE

Combined with the LF and HF trims, our speakers sound their best no matter what room you’re mixing in, or where the speakers are placed. The RCA input can be set to -10 dBu sensitivity when you’re using consumer devices like a laptop or smartphone’s headphone jack.

User questions & answers

Question: Is the headphone jack on this for monitoring your inputs, or does your PC audio come through it aswell
Answer: Hi, You can monitor your inputs and listen to playback from your computer simultaneously, which allows you to create overdubs with next to zero latency. You can either choose to monitor the inputs using the Direct Monitor switch, or you can use the Input Monitor feature in your DAW. If using the Direct Monitor feature the input signal will be passed directly to the line and headphone outputs, whereas if you use the Input Monitor feature in your DAW, you will be hearing the audio you're recording back from your DAW. In either case, you can still hear any other audio playing back from your DAW at the same time as recording. Best regards, Laurence Clarke // Focusrite Technical Support
Question: What type of usb cable does this come with? is it a type-c to type-c or a type-c to type-a
Answer: Hi, This comes with a type-c to type-a cable. If you have type-c ports, you will need to purchase a type-c to type-c USB cable separately. Best regards, Laurence Clarke // Focusrite Technical Support
Question: Does the XLR input only record audio to the left side
Answer: Hi, When recording a single microphone, you should ensure that you create a mono audio track in your DAW instead of a stereo audio track. When you record onto a mono audio track, the output from that track will be heard on both sides of your headphones or speakers (ensuring the output is set to stereo), however, if you record onto a stereo track, the audio will just be recorded onto the left side of a stereo file and you will ony hear it on the left of your headphones/speakers. This is explained in more detail here: https://support.focusrite.com/hc/en-gb/articles/206849779?flash_digest=62885ef974b4eb116f3b3ea2c9b9c38ddb871473 Best regards, Laurence Clarke // Focusrite Technical Support

User questions & answers

Question: Can i route the Outputs to be mono? or are they stereo ? can i have one guitar and one vocal? or will they be linked together as a stereo pair
Answer: Im not sure
Question: has anyone confirmed the low latency on the usb version? i'm a pc user, & thunderbolt isn't compatible
Answer: You can only hear it if it’s totally quiet and you have your ear to the speaker. If you play anything or stand 3 feet away you won’t even hear it. I leave mine on all the time, it’s really not an issue.
Question: I will not be using the mic inputs, only using it for playback in protools. Will I see any benefits over the scarlet? quality? latency? etc
Answer: The adams are much, much more expensive and I really have never heard them so I can't speak for them. The Kalis are amazing, in my opinion they are the best in their price range and even compete with others in much higher prices... can they compete with the Adams? I don't know...
Question: My motherboard has a usb 3.1 expansion card, but it is not a type c connection. will i still get the same low-latency connection with this interface
Answer: individually

Kali Audio MV-BT Professional Bluetooth Input Module

Based on 41 reviews Check latest price

Product description

Bluetooth In. Balanced Audio Out. The MV-BT aptX Bluetooth adaptor turns any professional speaker into a Bluetooth speaker!

The MV-BT is a Bluetooth receiver with balanced outputs for use with any professional audio system. Users can pair any Bluetooth-capable playback device, including smartphones and laptops, with the MV-BT, and connect directly to their speakers, to a mixer, or to an interface. Using the aptX codec, the MV-BT is capable of receiving CD-quality audio over Bluetooth. The MV-BT has independent volume control, eliminating the need to control volume from a playback device.

XLR & TRS Stereo Outputs

Use the XLR & TRS Outputs to send signals to a pair of speakers, a mixer, or an interface. Because both the XLR and TRS provide balanced connection, you needn’t worry about adding more noise to the signal. Either the XLR or TRS outputs may be used according to your preference.

  • TRS STEREO & XLR STEREO- The MV-BT provides stereo XLR & TRS for easy connection with any professional system. Balanced connectors enable you to use long runs of cable without risking more noise entering the signal.
  • INDEPENDENT VOLUME CONTROL- No need to control volume from your playback device. Device can play at full resolution, while still giving you the opportunity to fine-tune the output volume according to your needs.
  • aptX BLUETOOTH ADAPTOR- With the Bluetooth transmitter aptX codec, compatible devices can send CD-Quality audio over Bluetooth to the MV-BT.
  • LED VOLUME LEVEL INDICATOR- The LED array gives instantaneous visual feedback for the output level, a welcome aesthetic addition to any professional audio setup. Weighted volume control knob adds a precise feel and is detented so the volume stays put.
  • XLR STERO TO 3.5mm- Compatible with older devices via the 3.5mm input on the side of the unit.

User questions & answers

Question: The hissing still present? It’s the power unit causing
Answer: If your new receiver has phono in RCA jacks, you do not need a preamp. If your new receiver is so modern that it does NOT have a phono input, then yes, this Berringer unit will be exactly what you need.
Question: Can I use this with bluetooth headphones
Answer: Page 7, para. 5.1 of the UFO202 manual states: To transfer music from a record player, a special preamplification process must take place in order to boost the low signal level coming from the player. To do this, simply move the LINE/PHONO switch on the UF0202 to the right (PHONO selected). " It's possible that the "special preamplification process" includes the RIAA compensation. The RIAA equalization is essentially a sloping equalization curve of decreasing gain with decreasing frequency; this prevents the low frequencies from tearing-up the record grooves. The RIAA compensation reverses the equalization slope, boosting the low frequencies. Without RIAA compensation recordings would sound very treble biased; no low end. Since others, who appear to have used this unit, report that the recordings sound normal, RIAA is most probably included. In any case I generally contact the company when in doubt. NOTE: I plan on purchasing this unit.
Question: Can I use both sets of outputs simultaneously in order to drive two sets of speakers from the same source
Answer: To use the Behringer UFO202 simply as a preamplifier, you are proceeding correctly. The USB wall charger powers the Behringer UFO202.The low-level analog audio signal (such as from a magnetic phono cartridge) should be connected to the RCA input jacks on the Behringer UFO202.The preamplifier switch must be in the "phono" position. The preamplified analog audio signal will appear at the RCA output jacks, which need to be connected to the line-level input of an analog audio amplifier. Of course, speakers need to be connected to the audio amplifier as well. This setup should provide preamplification from your low-level analog audio signal to the line-level input of your analog audio amplifier. Note that the separate amplifier is required as the Behringer UFO202 cannot directly drive speakers, although it may drive earphones or headphones.

Bluetooth In. Balanced Audio Out. Turn any professional speaker into a Bluetooth speaker!

Ditch the Adapters.

Kali Audio’s MV-BT lets you use your Bluetooth devices with professional speakers, mixers, controllers, and interfaces. Just pair your device by pressing the Kali logo on the front, and use your preferred balanced connector to connect to your system.

Where does “MV” come from?

The official name of this product line is “Project Mountain View.” Kali names all of our product lines after towns in California. Mountain View is the town where several major tech companies, including Google, are headquartered. As Silicon Valley continues to develop phones and other devices without analog audio outputs, we thought it was a fitting name for a wireless audio device.

XLR & TRS Outputs

Use the XLR Outputs to send signal to a pair of speakers, a mixer, or an interface. Because XLR is a balanced connection, you needn’t worry about adding more noise to the signal.

Use the TRS Outputs to send signal to a pair of speakers, a mixer, or an interface. Because TRS is a balanced connection, you needn’t worry about adding more noise to the signal. Either the XLR or TRS outputs may be used according to your preference.

High Res aptX Codecs

AAC for iOS devices. This codec allows compatible devices to stream CD-quality audio over Bluetooth with minimal latency.

Balanced TRS & XLR Outputs

Use the XLR or TRS Outputs to send signal to a pair of speakers, a mixer, or an interface. Because XLR and TRS are balanced connections, you needn’t worry about adding more noise to the signal.

3.5 mm

Bluetooth input with a 3.5mm aux input jack for older devices, in situations where wireless interference makes Bluetooth unusable, or if you prefer using a physical connection.

Independent Volume Control

Device can play at full resolution, while still giving you the opportunity to fine-tune the output volume according to your needs.

Pairing Button

  • Press and hold the Kali logo for 2 seconds to enable pairing mode.
  • The LED around the logo will flash quickly to indicate that you are in pairing mode.
  • With pairing mode enabled, you should be able to find the MV-BT on your device (labeled “Kali MV-BT”) and pair to it.

LED Display

  • The LED array indicates the current volume and looks cool doing it.
  • More blue LEDs will illuminate from left to right as volume is turned up.

Weighted Knob

  • Enjoy precise control over the volume level at your fingertips.
  • This volume controller does not control the volume from your device, so you can pass the highest possible quality audio at all times.

Balanced Outputs

  • XLR & TRS Outputs
  • Connect to speakers, mixers, controllers, or interfaces with whatever cables you already use.
  • Because each output option is a balanced connection, you needn’t worry about adding more noise to the signal.
  • Either the XLR or TRS outputs may be used according to your preference.

User questions & answers

Question: What are the internal dimensions
Answer: I'm not sure what a magnetic cartridge is, but if you can record from a microphone, turntable or cassette deck, you should be able to record from a magnetic cartridge. If I remember correctly, many turntables used magnetic cartridges. The inputs on the UFO device require 1/4" (6.3mm) male stereo plugs - the kind that were common on older stereo equipment (1970's, 1980's), etc. I'm sure that you can find in many, many places (including Radio Shack) adapter plugs to convert from other sizes to 1/4" if necessary. Search for the 1/4" stereo plug on Amazon to see what I mean.
