Sony's DVP-NS775V DVD Player offers you the chance to relive the excitement of the movies in your very own living room. Enjoy the benefits this DVD/CD player brings home.
Tantalizingly affordable and stocked to the gills with great features and innovative technology, Sony's DVP-NS775V DVD player handles DVD-Video, audio CD, and Super Audio CD (SACD) media--including playback of recordable CDs filled with MP3 music and JPEG image files.
Onboard processing technologies, like Sony's Precision Cinema Progressive de-interlacer and 3:2 pulldown reversal, make every format shine, whether DVD-Video, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, or DVD+RW. Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts.
Precision Cinema Progressive technology uses a 12-bit video DAC (digital-to-analog converter) with high-bandwidth, 108 MHz processing to detect image changes at the pixel level, rather than at the level of whole scan lines. That makes this player's picture more faithful to the source--whether film or video--because it uses separate, optimized algorithms to handle different pixel behaviors. Separate algorithms are also used to process the moving and still parts of an image, resulting in sharp backgrounds with moving objects that are free from motion artifacts.
DVD mastering introduces a common distortion when adjusting 24 frames-per-second movies to 30 fps video; 3:2 reverse pulldown digitally corrects this distortion, removing the redundant information to display a film-frame-accurate picture. Composite- and S-video outputs bring compatibility with nearly any television.
Depending on the disc, SACD music releases provide super high-fidelity multichannel and/or stereo sound. As an anti-piracy measure, the DVP-NS775V performs its own decoding of SACD signals, passing high-resolution analog, not digital, audio to your integrated amplifier or surround receiver. This means you'll need an audio/video receiver with multichannel analog-audio inputs to appreciate multichannel SACD releases.
If you're not planning to use the SACD capability for multichannel programming, both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel surround-sound signals can also be routed through the player's digital-audio outputs (1 each RCA coaxial and Toslink optical) for simpler connection to a compatible receiver (multichannel analog and digital-audio interconnects are not supplied).
Precision Drive 3 provides a mechanism for reading DVDs that are in less than perfect condition, eliminating errors in playback due to imperfect, scratched, or warped discs.
DVD resume memory kicks in whenever you stop a DVD. Later, when you come back to it, the player will pick up right where you left off before. The player holds resume points for an impressive 40 discs. Other playback features include 10-second instant replay, DVD/CD Text display (with applicable discs), a digital video enhancer, digital video EQ (equalization), custom parental control memory for 40 discs, as well as Advanced SmoothScan and SmoothSlow Modes.

SONY DVP-NC555ES -- Its elegant Silver Cascade Finish is only a very pleasant hint of the quality and versatility within this 5-Disc Changer. Playback capabilities include DVD-Video, CD-Audio, DVD-R/RW (VR & Video Mode), DVD+R/RW, Multi & 2 Channel Super Audio CD ( SACD(TM) ), MP3 Discs Variable Coefficient Filter for CD Output Advanced SmoothScan(TM) and SmoothSlow Modes Full 3-2 Reverse Conversion Video Output - Component, S-Video, Composite Advanced SmoothScan(TM) & SmoothSlow Modes 40 Disc Resume & Playback Memory Audio Frequency Response (DVD) - 2Hz - 44kHz Dimensions - 5.33H x 16.93W x 17.0D; 18.08 Pounds Note - We are able to accept orders on this item from NY, NJ, CT & PA only
Add cutting-edge technology to your home entertainment system with the five-disc DVP-NC555ES. This multichannel SACD player is made to sing to the ears of the audiophile, delivering highly nuanced aural detail--whether playing a standard CD or a Super Audio CD (SACD). And you'll get progressive-scan video on every DVD thanks to Sony's Precision Cinema Progressive video processing and the ultra-high-speed 216MHz/12-bit video digital-to-audio converter (DAC). Other features include the ability to change out four discs while the fifth continues playing, antiresonant design it minimize distortion from vibration, and a built-in Dolby Digital/DTS decoder with 5.1-channel output.
Like other DVD players in Sony's ES series lineup, the DVP-NC555ES is designed to take advantage of a broad range of disc formats that includes not only DVD-Video, but also DVD-R and DVD-RW discs recorded in the DVD-Video and VR formats; DVD+R and DVD+RW; CD, CD-R, CD-RW, CD MP3, and Video CD; as well as Super Audio CD stereo and multichannel media.
The Sony DVP-NC555ES take full advantage of the latest generation of multichannel Super Audio CD music. Multichannel SACD gives producers the ability to capture the precise ambience and reverberation that give any concert hall, jazz club, or recording studio its characteristic "sound."
The SACD's 1-bit signal is processed and decoded by Sony's CXD2753 DSD decoder LSI. This integrated circuit makes intelligent decisions regarding the incoming data to form the 1-bit audio signal. The LSI uses internal memory to take data that's output intermittently from the disc, rearrange it, and order it into continuous 1-bit audio streams.
Sony's Video Equalizer enables you to fine-tune the picture quality of each disc you watch. You can adjust picture, brightness, color, hue, and chroma delay in addition to graphical gamma adjustment. And once you've optimized the picture for a particular disc, the DVP-NS555ES can commit your settings to memory (for up to 30 discs).
In DVD-Video playback, the ultimate in picture detail comes into direct conflict with the ultimate in picture clarity. Sony ES Series players, like the DVP-NC555ES, achieve superb fine picture detail and excellent clarity thanks to 108 MHz and 216 MHz oversampling in the D/A converter. This corresponds to 8x oversampling for progressive scan, 16x for interlaced playback.
Sony's pixel-by-pixel active I/P conversion feature includes built-in motion detection, enabling the DVP-NC555ES to generate the ideal progressive scanning output for each type of DVD source:
- Film originated material. For footage originally shot on 24-frames-per-second film or film-like 24-frame progressive video, the Sony system automatically and flawlessly detects the 3:2 cadence and performs full 3:2 reverse conversion. Mismatched film frames are never "force-fit" into a single video frame, and the system adds no motion blurring.
- Film-originated material on a DVD-R/RW or DVD+R/RW. DVD recorders complicate the I/P conversion processes because they capture everything as interlaced video. Even if they were originally shot on film, movies stored on disc are recorded as 30-frames-per-second interlaced, not 24-frames-per-second progressive. In this case, conventional 3:2 reverse conversion will not work, but Sony's pixel-by-pixel active I/P conversion will, thanks to its built-in motion detection system.
- Film material intercut with interlaced video material. Sony's pixel-by-pixel active I/P conversion applies appropriate processing for film elements and video elements, even when they alternate in rapid-fire sequence, as they might during the "making of" documentary on a movie DVD.
- Interlaced-video-originated material. Shooting on conventional, interlaced video means capturing a new field of 240 interlaced scanning lines every 1/60 second. When subjects are moving, there can be significant differences from each field to the next. Sony's pixel-by-pixel active I/P conversion applies special processing for video originated material.
Tech Talk
SACD: Super Audio CD (SACD) is a new high-quality audio disc standard where music is recorded in the DSD (Direct Stream Digital) format (conventional CDs are recorded in the PCM format). The DSD format, using a sampling frequency 64 times higher than that of a conventional CD and with 1-bit quantization, achieves both a wide frequency range and a wide dynamic range across the audible frequency range, providing music reproduction extremely faithful to the original sound. The SACD has two types: a two-channel stereo disc and a multichannel disc that holds up to six independent channels. The multichannel characteristic of the SACD features a speaker allocation system basically similar to the 5.1 channel output of current AV systems.

User questions & answers
Question: | does this play gapless on live songs and does the cd player make a loud humming noise when playing |
Answer: | No and No! If it has a loud humming sound check your connections. Is it hooked up with a SPIF(Digital) or with the analog RCAs?It will not play gapless songs. Checkout all the reviews there is one that's all about the player not playing gapless with classical CDs. You may be able to play a gapless recording if its a wav file recorded that way.Sincerely, Steven Level |
Question: | can it handle sacd discs |
Answer: | This is confusing because these reviews are for a few different model disc players, one does and the rest don't. It's the S1000 that plays SACDs. "The CD-S1000 is capable of playing Super Audio CDs... it also plays CDs and CD-RW discs." |
Question: | Does the front USB port have an electric pass through to charge an ipod while playing |
Answer: | The CD-S1000 doesn't have a USB port. |
Question: | Do I need to buy a separate amplifier to use this equipment to play cd's |
Answer: | No, you do not need a separate amplifier to play CDs. The unit will play just fine. Of course, without an outboard amp for the unit to be plugged into and that amp feeding speakers, you will get no sound output. Nevertheless, it WILL play those CDs, and do so quietly. |
Question: | Does it play DVD |
Answer: | Hi MGP, No, it doesn't play DVDs. Thanks. ~Ralph |
Question: | a sound system novice, what do I connect this to??? I bought it online and somehow assumed it was "complete" -- now I need to buy what else is required on line but no idea how to be sure I am making correct purchase. PLEASE HELP ----(just want to hear my cds |
Answer: | This is not a "complete" unit, but merely picks sounds off the CDs and provides output to send to (not included) speakers. Did you have a CD player previously? If so you would likely make the same connections to get CD output to your speakers. Otherwise, you will need another unit which will do that, probably including an amp. Might be time to reach out for help to someone in your circle of acquaintance. Mine is plugged into an "AV Receiver", (ONKYO brand, model TX-SR502) which also receives signal from my DVD player, turntable, TV, and internet radio receiver. The unit also provides radio tuner output if I want to listen to radio. Obviously, this is a separate unit which enables one to select which input to listen to. |
Question: | Does it have usb port outlet for ipod |
Answer: | Hi Anthony, No, this unit does not have a USB port at all. ~Earl |
Question: | A friend just gave me an old sony cdp-ce375, but the remote is missing. can i still operate this unit without a remote |
Answer: | Yes, just look at the buttons on the face of the unit. Old ones are the best. I have purchased three from amazon...maybe four and they work beautifully without a remote. I never use the remote anyway. |
Question: | what are the dimensions of this cd player |
Answer: | Hi, approximate dimensions for this Sony CD player are: 430 mm × 110 mm × 400 mm or (17 in × 4 3/8 in × 15 3/4 in) including projecting (w/h/d). -Ely |
Question: | Is it vented on the top? May I stack it between other devices |
Answer: | No, it is not vented and we do not recommend stacking other devices on top of this Sony CD player. It might do some damages on the unit especially when a heavy unit is placed above it. -Ely |
Question: | I am so dumb about all of this -- what is a receiver to connect to rather than speakers |
Answer: | does a SA500 technics receiver have a DAC |
Question: | Des the cd player rewind or ff SECTIONS of a song, or does it only go track to track |
Answer: | Hi Maria: if you are playing a CD, that has been recorded with songs in individual tracks, say 1-17; if you are listening to a song on track 5, you can STOP that song from playing, and the CD player will stop on that track, in that particular place. If you "hit" the play button again, the CD will continue playing that song. You can also "Fast Forward" that song, and stop the player before the end of the track. At the end of the track, the player will automatically go to the next track. One thing you can not do, as you can with a DVD player, that is playing a DVD that has been recorded with music, is STOP the CD player from playing a track, and then reverse the player to a previous point on the track you have been playing - the player will automatically revert to the previous track. However, if the CD you are playing has not been recorded in tracks, but is just one continuous sequence of songs, then you would be able to reverse the player to a previous position on the CD. The CD player keeps track of the total time of the DISK being played, and displays it on the indicator on the front panel. So, if you have written down the time your favorite song starts to play, you would be able to start your favorite song playing, from a Fast Forward position, by just stopping the player, and then restarting it in the ordinary Play mode, or reverse the player to the time displayed in which your favorite song starts. I hope my comments help you Maria. Philip |

User questions & answers
Question: | What are the dimensions |
Answer: | Product Dimensions: 11.2 x 3.4 x 17.1 inches ; 11.7 pounds |
Question: | will the 650 recognize my external harddrive itunes library? will i see genres/artist/album/song or what |
Answer: | I use it with an iPhone 7 and no song information whatsoever appears on the display; only the CD player mode shows. |
Question: | does it work with older stereo equipment such as amps, and speakers form '80s - '90s |
Answer: | yes, our 1980s Bose Speakers and older 90s amp work fine! |
Question: | does it records |
Answer: | Yes you can record to a USB thumb drive. However, keep in mind that the S.T.N.R. will drop from 100 DB to 80 DB which a large amount! Recording with this player using the USB port is for compressed music files only!So MP3s that are compressed will still sound even more compressed. I bought this for the Burr-Brown DACand a Onkyo 7030 for the Wolfson DAC!Using the add on features may be useful to some but it's really a waste IMO seeing how you lose so much Dynamic Range. Your knocking it down to vinyl standards with a good phono stage like the Carver C-1 preamp has built into it.Using this CD player with even a top of the line receiver will be nothing like using it with separate components. Using a good quality preamp and amp will allow you to get the best possible sound out of a stand alone CD player. I would also state that the Onkyo 7030 is a step up in sound quality over this CD player. I only bought the TEAC for it's Burr-Brown DAC and the fact that it will act as a back up CD player on my C-1's AUX 2 input! It's not a bad player, however, a + or - 2 DB frequency response is rather bad. The Onkyo is + or - .25 DB in comparison. Although I will admit that most people can't hear the difference. The Onkyo 7030 was my first Onkyo purchase and at a 11.7LB weight it's the best CD player on the market for under $400 easily! This Teac is the second best sub $400 player you can buy! People that claim they can actually hear the difference between CD players are usually kidding themselves and unless they are using separate components with a very good preamp and amp you simply can't hear the difference! They can claim all day long that they can, the truth is it's a ego thing! If you actually perform A/B testing between several different players you can see for yourself how true this actually is!I have friends that are very good guitarists and they have a good sense of sound in general. None of them can hear the difference as long as the output volume is the same. I always just suggest that you do the A/B testing yourself with a couple of friends and then you will understand what I have known for many years! People claim all sorts odd things. Such as hearing the difference between two similar turntables, hearing the difference between 14 gauge copper speaker wire and 10 gauge copper speaker wire. This is a joke as if you actually do A/B testing on your own you will see how full of cra* these people really are!! |
