2 best outdoor in ceiling speakers
Outdoor in-ceiling speakers are audio devices designed to provide high-quality sound in outdoor spaces while remaining discreet and aesthetically pleasing. They are typically used as part of surround sound systems or home audio setups in patios, gardens, decks, or other outdoor areas. Here's what you should know about outdoor in-ceiling speakers:
Design and Installation:
- Outdoor in-ceiling speakers are installed directly into the ceiling or overhead structure of outdoor spaces. This installation method allows for a clean and unobtrusive look, as the speakers are hidden from view.
- They are designed to withstand exposure to outdoor elements like moisture, humidity, and temperature fluctuations. This makes them suitable for use in various weather conditions.
Sound Quality:
- These speakers are engineered to deliver high-quality audio, providing clear and immersive sound experiences in outdoor settings.
- They often feature weather-resistant materials and coatings to protect the internal components and maintain sound quality over time.
Compatibility:
- Outdoor in-ceiling speakers can be integrated into existing home audio systems or connected to dedicated outdoor audio setups.
- Many models are compatible with surround sound systems, allowing for a seamless transition from indoor to outdoor entertainment.
Speaker Types:
- Single Speaker: Some outdoor in-ceiling speakers consist of a single speaker unit, suitable for mono audio playback.
- Stereo Pair: Stereo in-ceiling speakers come as a pair, offering better audio separation and a more immersive listening experience.
- Multi-Speaker Systems: In larger outdoor areas, multiple in-ceiling speakers may be installed to distribute sound evenly.
Power Handling and Wattage:
- Outdoor in-ceiling speakers vary in power handling capacity and wattage. The choice of speaker should match the size of the outdoor area and your desired volume levels.
- Higher wattage speakers can produce louder sound and cover larger spaces.
Control and Integration:
- Some outdoor in-ceiling speakers can be controlled remotely, allowing you to adjust volume levels and audio sources from a distance.
- They can often be integrated with smart home systems for seamless control through voice commands or mobile apps.
Wiring and Amplification:
- Proper wiring and amplification are essential for the optimal performance of outdoor in-ceiling speakers.
- Many installations require outdoor-rated speaker wire, and amplifiers should be compatible with the speaker's impedance and power requirements.
Maintenance:
- Routine maintenance may involve cleaning the speaker grilles and checking for any damage caused by environmental factors.
Outdoor in-ceiling speakers offer an excellent solution for homeowners looking to enhance their outdoor entertainment experiences. They allow you to enjoy music, movies, and audio in a stylish and unobtrusive manner while withstanding the challenges of outdoor environments. When choosing these speakers, consider factors such as speaker type, power handling, and compatibility with your existing audio system to create the ideal outdoor sound setup.

User questions & answers
Question: | How many watts can these speakers handle |
Answer: | 20-100 watts RMS |
Question: | what is the difference between the 6.5 inch vs the 8 inch versions |
Answer: | The tweeters are exactly the same between the two. The 8" model has a larger woofer and therefore will provide better bass reproduction (i.e., deeper low end bass). The reason for the different sizes is sometimes the spacing distances between the ceiling joist and wall studs will dictate which one you can use . If your wall studs or ceiling joist are on 16" centers then get the 8"... if they are on 12" centers you'll have to settle for the 6.5". Hands down... if you have the room get the 8". Just FYI: The 8" version outsells the 6" version 2 to 1. |
Question: | How much sound is transferred to the room above? I'm installing in a basement ceiling below a bedroom |
Answer: | Depends on the construction of the house. I would Place a bat of fiberglass insulation behind the speaker if there is no insulation in the ceiling. This will reduce the transmission of sound upstairs , and improve the sound of the speaker in the room it's installed. |
Question: | Do these speakers have open backs? Do they come with enclosures |
Answer: | This is actually a great question. As the others have said, the backs are open, which is typically not an issue when installing into a wall or ceiling. HOWEVER...if you install into a ceiling that has blown insulation above it (the loose cellulose kind, not the rolled fiberglass kind) then you WILL want to come up with your own way of keeping the loose insulation off the backs of the speaker. If you don't (as I didn't the first time I bought these) then over time the quality and volume of the sound will lessen because of the insulation working into and pressing against the cones. I had to replace one set because of this problem. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Would these fit a cut made for a RC80i? Thinking of replacing my two rears with these but dont want to plaster or cut |
Answer: | The cutout size is the same 9.375 inches or 23.81 cm. I am using a bracket for installation and the bracket size is the same for both models |
Question: | What is the part number of the proper pre-construction bracket for the MC80? Thanks |
Answer: | As far as I know you do not need pre-construction brackets you just need a wall that has sheetrock and you can clamp them directly to the wall. |
Question: | What is the diameter cutout inches for the ceiling |
Answer: | Depth 4.2 inDiameter 9.4 inWeight 3.53 lbs |
Question: | How does this model compare to the Polk RC80i |
Answer: | From what i could tell, for a ceiling and wall speaker the RT series would be the one i would start with if i had all ceiling and wall speakers and wanted a premium polk speaker. You can go to polk's website and email them, to discuss your specific layout, which was what i did, and they responded within a couple of hours. The RT's have built in enclosures so they probably sound as close to standard speakers as you are going to get with in/wall or in/ceiling speakers. For my setup, i have actual polk bookshelf speakers that i built into a wall with a utility space behind it for the front and centers, and these do sound much better than the MC80s in the ceiling - as far as a complete sound - i think if i didn't have the bookshelfs and/or a subwoofer (which i also have) i wouldn't consider the sound of either the MC80s or RC80is when mounted in a ceiling to be a real complete or great sounding speaker for accurate music reproduction. The MC80s worked great as surround sound speakers for my setup, but the fullness of sound, especially on the low end does not match a bookshelf or floor polk speaker. |
Question: | Does it have bluetooth |
Answer: | Hi these are set included the subwoofer and 5 cube speakers. You need the receiver ( Bluetooth) let hook up with them. Thank you very much |
Question: | How old is this unit |
Answer: | 10 years old |
Question: | Will the subwoofer replace a V20 Lifestyle subwoofer |
Answer: | Yes |
Question: | Cables included |
Answer: | Yes I do have the cable. Please contact me for more information |
