User questions & answers
Question: | Hi, does it have a remote control |
Answer: | Yes, it has a zone 2 setup for speakers plus you can do Bluetooth speakers if desired |
Question: | Why would this unit have trouble with rgb 4K from ps4 pro to vizio m558? Also sound cuts out every hour or so for 3 seconds, is this the receiver |
Answer: | Yes it can pass 1440p @ 30, 60, 120hz from PC to TV |
Question: | Does the bluetooth trasmit both audio and video |
Answer: | To do it in the same room: Plug a couple of speakers into the Zone 2 outputs, then on the remote turn on Z2 and select tuner (scene 2) or other audio input you want; use the remote to set Z2 volume. Meanwhile Main input remains on STB or whatever you use, with main output volume muted and closed caption as you wish. I do this to watch football (association and gridiron) while on the treadmill and listening to radio or music. I recommend Acoustic Audio AA321B speakers for Z2, available on Amazon for about $32 for a pair. |
Question: | is zone B a variable out controlled by the remote? Can you send optical in to zone b |
Answer: | V685Bl is black.. I believe that is the BL. I have not seen just v685 |

User questions & answers
Question: | hdmi out is not working any suggestions |
Answer: | Actually yes, I had the exact same problem with my unit, I would get video, but no audio if I connected my HDMI output to my TV. If I unplugged the HDMI cable from the TV my audio would resume . Although it does involve taking the unit apart and fixing it yourself, which requires the use of a soldering iron (you need to replace 4 capacitors), wire cutters (for cutting a ribbon cable), and some wire quick connects (to help reconnect a ribbon cable you have to cut). If this is something that you are comfortable or capable of doing, I can easily send you the information on how to fix this yourself. It took my ordering the components from Digi-Key, and about a hour and a half of my time to fix from start to finish, with the majority of that time to stripping, crimping and reconnecting the ribbon cable. |
Question: | Can I use this with ultra 4k TV |
Answer: | Hello. The TX-SR608 does not support HDCP 2.2. Please consider the TX-NR686 if you are looking for a receiver that will allow 4K/UHD. -DH |
Question: | Will it work on 220V electricity |
Answer: | The user manual says that it supports 230V, 50 Hz or 120V, 60Hz. They mention on page 4 "If the power cord's plug is not suitable for your socket outlets, cut it off and fit a suitable plug. Fit a suitable fuse in the plug." But they also say "Replacement and mounting of an AC plug on the power supply cord of this unit should be performed only by qualified service personnel." So it looks like it will work but you may have to get a different power cord or at least an adapter...hope this helps |
Question: | Does every speaker channel work, and the pc in too thats what i need |

User questions & answers
Question: | One reviewer said these are 6ohm speakers, I don't see anything on specss are they 6 or 8 ohm |
Answer: | The manufacture offers a 5 year warranty. Bought direct from Monoprice you get the 30 days no question asked return policy (although you still have to pay for return shipping). Not sure if Amazon offer that. |
Question: | Can these speakers handle onkyo's tx-nr747 175 watts of power |
Answer: | From the manual. LFE & LINE UNBALANCED INPUTS:Use either of these RCA inputs to connect the LFE output on your amplifier or receiver. If your amplifier/receiver does not have an LFE output, connect the stereo pre-amplifier output on your amplifier/receiver to both the 1and 2inputs. This is a powered subwoofer, not meant to take amped input. Maybe consider upgrading your Amp? |
Question: | how do you mount these speakers from celing |
Answer: | There are several that you could buy ... and its fairly easy as the feet are removable. Just need to find the right screw size. Get some feet that parts express sells, and buy some machine screws from HD or lowes. |
Question: | Will any speaker angled towards the ceiling give the same effect |
Answer: | 110v only |

User questions & answers
Question: | Are remote control (IR) extenders compatible with this device? Thank you |
Answer: | This receiver should work with a standard IR remote control repeater kit. |
Question: | what does THD mean |
Answer: | Total harmonic distortion The total harmonic distortion (THD) is a measurement of the harmonic distortion present in a signal and is defined as the ratio of the sum of the powers of all harmonic components to the power of the fundamental frequency. Distortion factor, a closely related term, is sometimes used as a synonym. In audio systems, lower distortion means the components in a loudspeaker, amplifier or microphone or other equipment produce a more accurate reproduction of an audio recording. |

Onkyo's TX-SR501 delivers all the high-impact excitement and three-dimensional sonic realism that 6.1-channel Dolby Digital EX and DTS-ES have to offer. 65 full-bandwidth-rated watts x 6 channels of home theater power team up with advanced 24-bit surround decoding to create incredibly lifelike, 360° soundscapes in your living room. DTS Neo:6 modes let you transform stereo music and older surround sources into convincing 6.1 audio. Onkyo's CinemaFILTER adjusts the tonal balance of soundtracks mixed for movie theaters for optimal playback in home theater settings.
Onkyo's affordable and remarkably versatile TX-SR501 6.1-channel surround receiver is ideal for home theater novices as well as budget-conscious veterans looking for an upgrade from 5.1 to 6.1. Those new to home theater will sigh in relief at the receiver's user-friendly design, which uses color-coded inputs and outputs, a logically laid-out front panel, and an easy-to-use, preprogrammed remote control. Those looking to upgrade their current home theater receiver will be impressed with the receiver's six, high-current channels (65 watts per channel) and processing for all major surround formats, and then some, including Dolby Digital EX (6.1) and DTS-ES.
Further, Onkyo includes a number of exclusive audio-enhancing features and technologies, like discrete output stages, high-bandwidth WRAT (Wide Range Amplifier Technology), a reduced-NFB (negative feedback) design, and CinemaFILTER (to yield the smoothest sound at any volume).
The TX-SR501 handles a range of audio and video components, from front-panel audio/video/S-video jacks for simple hookups with camcorders, game consoles, and VCRs, to multiple rear-panel inputs including two high-resolution component-video inputs, a set of multichannel RCA analog inputs (perfect for use with a DVD-Audio or SACD player's high-resolution analog outputs), and a trio of digital-audio ins (two optical, one coaxial) for DVD players, a satellite receiver, a DVD player, and other gear.
Routing your DVD player's and VCR's audio and video signals to the receiver before sending them on to your TV simplifies AV source switching, since you can do it all with the receiver's remote rather than having to switch inputs on your receiver and your television.

192/24 digital-to-analog converters
Costly, extremely powerful digital-to-analog converters , that not only boast a dynamic range of 120 dB, they process information faster and are virtually resistant to clock jitter, to ensure the best possible performance from DVD-Audio, DVD-Video and audio CD.
Audyssey 2EQ to Counteract Room Acoustic Problems
Loudspeakers are specifically designed to deliver sound without distortion or coloration. Nevertheless, walls, furniture and other objects reflect and absorb sound, creating distortion that is unique to your own space. To counter this, Audyssey 2EQ corrects problems both in frequency response and in the time domain (where most of the problems lie), across the entire listening area. The results are immediately obviousa clear, precise and natural sound.
DTS-ES 96/24 Neo6
There are two DTS-ES (Extended Surround) formats: DTS-ES Discrete 6.1 and DTS-ES Matrix 6.1. The DTS-ES Discrete 6.1 format is, as the name implies, a 6.1-channel system with a discrete back surround channel, while DTS-ES Matrix 6.1, like Dolby Digital Surround EX, provides a matrix-encoded back surround channel. Theres also DTS Neo:6, which derives a 6-channel surround output from a stereo soundtrack, and regular DTS, which, like Dolby Digital, is a discrete 5.1-channel system, but which uses less compression than Dolby Digital. Receivers carrying the "96/24" designation are able to decode a new high-resolution audio format, DTS-96/24. This breakthrough allows for high quality, 5.1 channel audio encoded at 96kHz/24-bit resolution to be stored on a DVD-Video disc (or the DVD-Video portion of a DVD-Audio disc). This format is compatible with all DVD players, with those able to pass a 96kHz signal providing the highest quality output (DTS-96/24 is also backwards compatible with older 48kHz DVD player models).
HDMI
HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) This high-bandwidth interface supports not only brilliant digital video, but digital audio as well. Up to 5 Gbps of datamore than twice whats needed for a high-definition movie with surround soundcan be handled, with room for future requirements. All this data is kept in the digital domain, as there are no D/A or A/D conversions needed, to ensure the highest sound and video quality available.
HDMI is fully backward compatible with PCs,displays and consumer electronics devices incorporating the Digital Visual Interface (DVI) standard. Both HDMI and DVI were pioneered by Silicon Image and are based on TMDS®, Silicon Image's powerful, high-speed, serial link technology. HDMI supports standard, enhanced, or high-definition video, plus multi-channel digital audio on a single cable. It transmits all ATSC HDTV standards and supports 8-channel digital audio, and with 5 Gbps of bandwidth, HDMI can accommodate future enhancements and requirements. Because HDMI was designed specifically for consumer electronics applications, it offers an array of additional consumer enhancements. As digital content can manifest itself in a variety of sizes, resolutions and formats, HDMI-enabled systems will automatically configure to display content in the most effective format. In addition, HDMI enables a single remote point and click, allowing manufacturers to deliver home theater systems that automatically configure from a single command from a remote control -- turning on or off the components necessary to view a DVD, listen to a CD, or watch cable or satellite TV.
WRAT (Wide Range Amp Technology
Imagine turning up the volume and filling your entertainment room with noise-free, impressively powerful, true-to-life sound. That's the benefit of Wide Range Amplifier Technology. Originally developed for our most expensive high-end amplifiers to handle the sonic demands of today's digital age, you'll now find WRAT even in our lowest-priced A/V receivers. The WRAT family of technologies includes a broader frequency range with lower noise entering the signal path perfectly suited for new high resolution DVD-Audio and SACD formats.
7.1 Multichannel Inputs
The emergence of HD-DVD and Blu-ray discs promises to bring unparalleled realism to home theater. Dolby and DTS have each developed improved audio formats to be encoded on these new DVD discs that will superbly complement the latest in highdefinition video. By connecting a player compatible with these new audio codecs to an Onkyo A/V receiver equipped with 7.1 multichannel inputs, you will be able to experience extreme sonic clarity from these new discs, while retaining the full use of the receivers other onboard codecs.
CinemaFILTER
The tonal balance of a film soundtrack can be edgy and bright when played back over audio equipment in your homethis is because film soundtracks are designed to be played back in large theaters, using commercial equipment. Onkyo has developed its own solution that restores the correct tonal balance of a movie soundtrack in the smaller environs of your home theater.
Dolby Digital EX / Pro-Logic IIx
Home theater realism reaches new heights with the creation of Dolby Digital EX. By adding a matrix-encoded surround back channel derived from the existing discrete left and right surround channels, the lack of rear surround in 5.1 channel is eliminated. The result - a fuller 360º experience is created
even from 5.1-channel DVD releases. Best results are obtained when Dolby Digital EX is used with movie soundtracks recorded with Dolby Digital Surround EX. Pro-Logic IIx is the latest improvement on the original Pro-Logic and subsequent Pro-Logic II standards. Pro-Logic IIx adds post-processing to 5.1 channel and stereo signals, creating a realistic 7.1 channel surround environment from 5.1 channel movies and stereo sources, such as CD, Tape, FM Radio.
RI (Remote Interactive)
With Onkyos exclusive RI (Remote Interactive) system capability, you can integrate and operate all compatible components through a single remote control. Whats more, RI capability enables you to simply connect the iPod® to your receiver through Onkyos RI Dock for the iPod (DS-A1). Your iPod effectively becomes another Onkyo component from which you can relish a fuller sound that just cant be experienced through headphones. RI capability will also give you remote operability of your iPod for hands-off control over your digital music.
