Question:	Does this thing have an/off switch or do you need to plug/unplug everytime you use it
Answer:	no switch. You can plug/unplug, I leave it plugged in all the time.
Question:	Unit works fine for awhile and then starts outputting static, even with no input connected. I've tried it with several amps with the same results
Answer:	Most likely people who are having noise problems it is because of ground loop isolation problem. If you have a ground loop isolation problem grounding the preamp box is unlikely to help. Without getting technical, what you want to buy is a ground loop isolator or a humm eliminator; both the ground loop isolator and humm eliminator tackles the cause of the noise at the fundamental source of the problem, depending on your audio setup, one maybe easier to use than the other. To use the ground loop isolator or the humm eliminator they generally come with instructions, or you can google this topic. If the noise in your audio system isn't fixed by using this solution the first time, try putting the ground loop isolator and humm eliminator at various points in your audio system. Also you can talk to audio people and get advice about how to fix ground loop problems from people who setup big audio systems, for concerts and such; if you talk to the average electronic garage shop audio enthusiast you are likely to get bad advice, i.e., meaningless explanations. Also caution must be used when Googling this topic, much of the discussion, advice and explanation on this topic is bogus, you can get a general correct feel of this topic if you read a number of explanations. Also one more thing that can cause a "popping noise" is that you have too much gain, this is a phono amp and the gain is huge, it takes a 3mV and makes it 2Vp-p this is a gain of around 100 to 200, if you gain up the audio signal too much then the signal out of your amplifier runs out of head room and clips, this can cause a popping sound, essentially you have too much gain. If this is occurring you need to either buy a preamp with less gain or attenuate the signal before it gets to the preamp. If this is a problem, too much gain, you can buy preamps with gain control.

Answer:	Yes, indeed. If your need was like mine (no built-in pre-amp on the turntable and no specifically dedicated phono input on your amplifier) you will find this unit to be the perfect solution to needed amplification of the turntable's output. Don't forget to hook up the ground wire as directed or you may wind up putting unwanted noise into the audio.
Question:	My amp DOES have a Phono Input, but my cartridges are low output. Can I use this to boost the signal using the Phono Input to reduce audible hiss
Answer:	No, you can't. This is a phono preamp with RIAA playback equalization that amplifies the signal about 100 times, so it essentially does what your built-in phono preamp does. The output signal from the separate preamp is equalized to a nominally "flat" frequency response and the amplified signal level will overload and probably damage your built-in phono preamp. Plug it into any other stereo line input on your system (AUX, CD, DVD, TAPE, VCR, etc.), but NOT the PHONO input! If you need higher signal gain, maybe look at phono preamps from ART or TCC that have output level controls. If you use moving-coil (MC) cartridges, you need a preamp specifically designed for them...they require at least 55 dB (over 500 times) signal gain vs. about 40 dB (100 times) for moving-magnet (MM) cartridges. Noise becomes a critical issue with MC cartridges because of their extremely low signal output, so good-quality cables and good turntable grounding are essential.

Answer:	You can hook it up to anything with a red and white connection. Or if you get the rca to 3.5mm jack then you can hook it up to anything with an input slot. I used this on my realistic lab 440 which doesn't have a preamp. Once I connected the ground from my turntable into the ground slot on this amp, my music sounded loud and clear.

The Turntable is plugged into the PP999 INPUT and the PP999 OUTPUT plugs directly into any (non Phono) INPUT on the receiver. Your Receiver allows you to switch between different music-sources, contains the primary-amplifier and distributes the final sound out to the speakers(and subwoofer). The Receiver should have multiple inputs for receiving signals from eg. CD, Tape, VCR, etc. In my experience those labels are for convenience and interchangeable with the exception of a "Phono" input. NOTE: If the receiver has a "Phono" input then there's a built-in preamp. If your using an external preamp (Pyle PP999) do NOT plug it into the Receiver's 'Phono' input, it could cause damage. I plug the preamp for the turntable into the Receiver's 'VCR' or 'TV' inputs.

Answer:	I would think if it is from1990 it would still include a preamp phono stage. In any case though, yes it would work if u don't have one built in. Or if u just don't like the sound that comes from your built in preamp u can run this to any other audio in rca jacks on the receiver.
Question:	Would a jensen jta-230 3 speed stereo turntable work with this
Answer:	As long as your turntable has RCA inputs, this should work just fine. Hookup is simple and amplifier is easy to use.
Question:	does this unit have an on/off stwich
Answer:	There is no on-off switch. The unit draws very little power from its wall-wart power supply which would remain powered-up even with the unit switched off. I recommend leaving it on or controlling it along with the other audio equipment. Powering it up while monitoring its output results in a loud "thump."
Question:	how do i know which capacitance option to use (100pf or 200pf
Answer:	You can't "hurt" anything with any of these settings. Of course, you want to use the 'phono' or direct output of the turntable, not the 'line level' or amplified output. just try the 100pf (I think this is more 'standard') and listen for a while. Then try the 200pf setting and see if it sounds better. I think the effects would be mainly small, possibly none.
Question:	Is this what I need to plug an older turntable into a new receiver/amp that does not have a phono jack? When I plug in AUX, there is no sound

Answer:	This is pre-amp, so it cannot power speakers. Ohms are not relevant in that sense. It probably can power many headphones from the monitor jack on the front, but volume may be limited. Also can drive powered speakers that have their own internal power amplifiers from the RCA outputs on the back. Yes, you definitely need a power amp to drive non-powered speakers. Now, the amp can be a standalone basic or integrated into another device such as a receiver, or as I indicated, powered speakers. But don't let that fool you. You need an amp somewhere in the system, and this is not one since it is a pre-amp.

Answer:	Hello, Thank you for contacting Cambridge Audio. You should be able to run the Solo preamplifier's output into the 3.5mm jack of the Sonos 5 to playback records through this speaker. Question:	Been using a simple input/output type, so does this model come w/ detailed instructions
Answer:	You really don't need instructions as this unit is clearly marked. Just be sure to connect the ground wire from your turntable to the preamp to stop any hum.
Question:	Can this be used to boost signal output from a digital tuner box on the way to amplifier
Answer:	No. This pre-amp is strictly for pre-amplifying (hence the name) the very low voltage output signal from a magnetic (MM) cartridge. The output of the pre-amplifier is then connected to an auxiliary input jack of a receiver.
Question:	Will this work so i can listen to my vinyls with headphones
Answer:	Yes, there is a 1/4" headphone jack on the front panel. If your headphones/earbuds us a 1/8" plug you will need a 1/8" to 1/4" stereo headphone adapter which are readily available. Also, for best results make certain that your turntable is grounded to the unit.
Question:	can this be used for ripping vinyl
Answer:	This small unit is strictly for providing power from your receiver to your turntable. I had an old receiver that had an outlet for my turntable to plug into, so the power source came from there. I recently had to purchase a new receiver (previous one mentioned was 40 years old and owed me nothing) but it did not have an outlet for my turntable. I needed to purchase this item to connect the two components. Now I am good to go. It has nothing to do with ripping or recording.

Answer:	There's no on/off switch. Doesn't seem to draw much current so I left it plugged in all the time and didn't bother powering it down.
