Answer: | The data sheet for the TDA7377 doesn't say so, but in stereo bridge mode, it should not work with the design parameters. HOWEVER. Do be aware that the limit of power output is voltage on this design; even at 18V, 16 ohm speakers will probably reduce it to closer to 5W or 6W per channel. I would suggest a design that's based on 8 to 16 ohm speakers,. not a 2 to 4 ohm speaker design. Now if you had four of those speakers you could wire in parallel, it would probably work fine (since that would then end up 4 ohms effective.) |

Answer: | It *can* work, I have tested other DROK units with success (for 'practice' and experimentation only. I haven't used this particular unit that way (was considering it, thus my presence here). But, I had used 2 other DROK module amps for that purpose: one built upon the TDA7297 and another on the TDA7377. They DO work (so-so), however keep the following in mind: 1. These units are designed to take an ACTIVE (powered) signal and amplify it. A guitar signal normally is passive and will need some sort of boost or pre-amp between the guitar and the DROK to produce sufficient volume levels. I run my signal from guitar into a Joyo American Sound / Vox emulator and through a compressor and reverb unit before going to amp module. 2. The input impedance on most of these amps is LOW (about 10k-30k). The typical input impedance on a regular guitar amp is about 500k-1M. This has implications for your signal -- in terms of quality and quantity. For certain, you will notice a shift in the higher frequencies (you''ll have to compensate by adjustment levels and EQ quite a bunch). 3 .Getting a comparable output signal to an amp listed as (50W, 25W, etc) will require the DROK amp unit being powered by a potent / matching power supply. Give it the max power listed for this unit (24V should do the job about as well as possible) and make sure available amps are sufficient too. They can work. Be prepared to tweak and experiment a bit, but overall, it's dirt cheap and you'll learn a lot too. If you really want to dig down deep into the details, go hunt down a datasheet for the amplifier chip (TPA3116D2 - I believe). With adequate power, you can get 2x30W into 8ohms with that chipset. |

Answer: | Hi Javier, I used an Agilent 66332A power supply for one of the applications of this amplifier. All of the connections on this amp use solder, so I just had a few inches of wire soldered to the power connections and some test leads with spring clips from the power supply to the power wires of the amp. For another application, my co-worker just used one of the small USB wall power adapters that commonly comes with most phones and tablets these days and chopped up a micro-usb cable to solder to the power connections. As long as the cable you use is up to USB spec, it will have a red and black wire it in. Red being positive and black being negative.Please let me know if that helps out and will try to provide more info if I can. |

Answer: | I guess this won't help you over a year later but, you need to make shure of 3 things, voltage and amperage of the power supply, and the sensitivity of the speaker. The ideal power supply for this would be a usb phone charger that outputs over 1A. As far as the rating to look for on a speaker, the wattage and impendance don't matter. The wattage is only useful in seeing if the speaker will catch on fire if I run full power from this amp, it does not indicate anything else. The impendance is usefull in two ways, to see how much wattage the amp will push, and to see if the amp will kill itself trying to drive these speakers. Neither one of these is useful here as you usually won't have less than 4 ohms impendance (what this amp is rated for) unless you specifically take multiple speakers and wire it that way, and 3 watts isn't going to blow any speaker unless it is made of wet toilet paper (even then it's iffy). The only thing you need to worry about is the sensitivity of the speaker, which is measured in db as the measured volume of the speaker at 1 meter away with 1 watt powering it, you can find good cheap, speakers that are rated around 90db. if you put this amp on a 90db rated speaker you should get about 95db out of it which is loud enough to cause permanant hearing damage. It is also the hardest rating to find because it is the least used, even though the ratings people use to guage loudness have nothing to do with being loud and this rating is what they are looking for. Answer: | If your speaker+bass shaker load comes to 4 Ohms, TPA3116 powered by 12V can only cleanly (1% THD) push about 15 Watts per channel before an abrupt jump into high distortion. Feeding an 8 Ohm load while powered by 12V jumps to high distortion after only about 8 Watts per channel. In either case most of your available 16A current potential is wasted. Use an inexpensive DC-DC converter to boost your power supply's 12V output to 20V or so. That will allow TPA3116 to operate into higher power levels before distortion dramatically rises. Select a boost converter rated for at least 6A output or more. |
