User questions & answers
Question: | Would these be good to use in the office to block noise from neighboring cubicles? And, I don't want my ears to hurt from wearing them |
Answer: | These are very comfortable headphones compared to other closed-back headphones and can't beat the price. Not sure if there would be enough insulation from outside noise, but i you are in an office environment, I would think so. |
Question: | Are these Flat frequency response headphones |
Answer: | no. not even close. they sound really colored and weird without heavy EQ. |
Question: | How's the bass like? Is it deep or soft |
Answer: | The basic state of the headphones is flat frequency response which is as it should be. Because of this they respond very favorably to how you set the EQ on your playback device. If you want bass, EQ for bass. What they do not do is color the playback like the overwhelming low mid stuff you get out of something like a set of beats. These reproduce what is sent to them very accurately making them great as a studio monitor and even better for home listening. Very impressive headphones for the price point. |
Question: | What is a jack type? 3.5 mm |
Answer: | The jack comes with a 1/4" connector attached, but it can be screwed off for the more mobile-device-friendly 3.5mm connector. |

AKG K72 Closed-Back Headphones
Pro quality sound meets style and affordability with the AKG K72 over-ear, closed back headphones. Professional-grade 40mm drivers reveal even the subtlest nuances, so you can be confident your mix will translate accurately on any system. Whether you’re tracking the hook or mixing background harmonies, the self-adjusting headband and lightweight design will provide hours of comfort. Designed by the company whose mics and headphones have helped create some of the world’s most iconic recordings, the durable K72 headphones deliver great sound wherever your music takes you.
Professional Drivers - Clear Sound in the Studio and Beyond
Our K72 headphones deliver authoritative, extended low-frequency response that gives definition to kick drums and bass guitars. At the same time, the detailed yet precisely balanced high-frequency response reveals the nuance in vocals, guitars and acoustic instruments. Our generous 40mm drivers deliver high sensitivity for powerful output, plus an extended frequency response that reveals every detail. The K72s also feature a low-impedance design for compatibility with a broad range of playback devices, from professional studio gear to portable music players.
Closed-Back Design - Get Lost In Your Sound
The K72 headphones’ closed-back design eliminates audio leakage and delivers sound to your ears only. The mic won’t pick up the sound of the click track in your headphones - and you’ll always be able to mix peacefully without being distracted by outside noise. This exceptional level of audio isolation is due to a new acoustic chamber, which sits between the ear cup and the hinge that connects to the headband. Our innovative design gives you the freedom to move your head in any direction, without letting sound in or out. With the K72, you’ll enjoy a private workspace, no matter where you choose to create.
The Style that Fits All - Comfortable Listening
Getting the perfect mix sometimes means monitoring track levels for hours - and that’s when comfort really counts. We designed our unique self-adjusting headband to automatically create the perfect fit for every band member. No need to mess with delicate sizing mechanisms, which have the potential to break over time. The exposed headband design keeps the K72 headphones comfortably light, without compromising driver size. Breathable, lightweight ear pads encircle your ears, rather than putting pressure on them. And a single-sided cable gives you freedom to move. To sum it up, these high-performance headphones sound, feel and look great.

User questions & answers
Question: | How do these compare to Bose noise cancelling headphones in terms of noise cancellation capability |
Answer: | Comparing these headphones directly to the Bose QC15, the Bose do a better job at blocking out noise. This is because the Bose have electronics to "cancel" noise, the K271's only isolate noise by a closed back design and thick ear pads. It's kind of an unfair comparison. Compared to other noise isolating headphones these cans do not stack up as well. Some other options you might consider are the ATH M50, HD280, SRH840 or the DT 770. Below I have linked some measurement graphs, the graph on the top right is for isolation. The bottom line is the K271 do not do the best job at isolating noise from the outside world so if that is your primary reason for purchasing headphones look elsewhere.http://www.innerfidelity.com/images/AKGK271MkII.pdfhttp://www.innerfidelity.com/images/AudioTechnicaATHM50B2012.pdfhttp://www.innerfidelity.com/images/SennheiserHD280Pro.pdfhttp://www.innerfidelity.com/images/BeyerdynamicDT770.pdfhttp://www.innerfidelity.com/images/ShureSRH840.pdf |
Question: | How well does the auto-mute feature work? Does it mute when you don't want it to and not mute when you do want it to? Thanks |
Answer: | It mutes when there is no pressure on the headband. I have had the headphones for a few months and never had a problem with the feature. I find it very useful especially in a live or studio environment. |
Question: | Do I need an adapter to connect to a 3.5 mm jack or does this cable already connect to a 3.5 mm jack |
Answer: | cables are (straight and coiled) 3.5mm with screwing adapter to 6.3mm |
Question: | What does MK ll mean |
Answer: | Actually, MK II denotes that these were designed by Michael Kors when he was 11-years old and working in the basement of his family's Swedish bakery. It's not widely known that the pre-teen Mr. Kors was a brilliant audio design engineer (graduated MIT at 10 years old) before he sold-out to the mass-market/low-end fashion industry. The K271 MKII reflects Mr. Kor's impeccable taste and elegant "evening gown" sensibility. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How LONG in feet is the detachable cord |
Answer: | 9-10 Feet. |
Question: | Is this an original brand? or It is made in China |
Answer: | The inside sticker on a pair of these purchased in 2020 shows that it is "Made in China". The production country doesn't always indicate the quality as many name-brands have been outsourced to China. |
Question: | These being 55 ohm models, can you really get by without a headphone amp? I'm coming from Grado SR80s which sound fine without an amp, imho. This is for personal use, no mixing or DJing. Probably using a laptop or my Cowon MP3 player usually |
Answer: | Note : I'm hard of hearing (severe to profound, with more loss in the higher frequency) Comparing these to a Sennheiser HD 280 Pro that I am replacing (the right side died from a bad wire after just a year), using my desktop computer and my Samsung Galaxy J7 Star phone as a reference (using Google Music). On my desktop PC, which is basically your typical RealTek type of integrated sound card, they are a bit on the quiet side, but possibly audible enough for most people with a normal hearing range, but I am able to hear the vocals and bass, just more quietly than I like. The HD280Pro above was a louder by default (but has a higher impedance oddly enough). On my mobile phone, it's louder and while it may not be cranking it out, it's definitely loud enough for me to enjoy without a problem. When paired with my Tascam DR60Mk2 4-channel audio recorder, using the computer output into CH1/CH2 XLR inputs at a 'LOW' gain setting, and headphones plugged into the Phone monitoring 3.5mm jack with an output volume around 6~8 depending, it is much louder and closer to what I prefer. Also with the amplication provided on the tascam (Which is overkill for computer purpose, and meant more as a field recorder) with a Low gain setting is a very clean signal to the headphones and definitely loud enough for someone who is close to deaf as I am. Nutshell : even with me being hard of hearing, using the headphones with a mobile phone or computer directly, it's loud enough for me to hear it, even if it's not like "jamming". Sidenote : Compared to the Sennheiser, these are semi-open backs (versus a closed back), which means not only do the K240 exhibit sounds that other people in the room will be able to hear what you're listening to easily, it also means that as I'm typing on a mechanical keyboard with 'red' switches, I can hear my clacking typing while music is playing on the headphones. |
Question: | What is better for recording and mixing guitar, vocals (for metal). And mixing them. AKG 240 or Audio-Technica ATH-M50? Why |
Answer: | I can't comment on the ATH-M50, as I haven't used one yet. The AKG 240 however is a very good set, but I wouldn't use headphones to mix final masters. Especially not when you have to listen to screaming guitars. For tracking vocals you should be carefull as a sensitive mic would "listen" to the headphones too. Not always welcome when recording soft passages. Hope this helps |

User questions & answers
Question: | Do these suppress engine noise |
Answer: | They suppress all noise by virtue of the seal around the ear, but they won't block it out because they're not technically noise canceling (no active noise suppression). They also do better with high frequency noise and aren't as good in low frequency where much engine noise lies, which is true of all things that only passively block noise eg ear plugs. So the answer is yes to a limited degree, but it won't be a complete suppression by any means and more in the high frequencies. I've found the combo of these with earplugs to be very effective for airplane noise. |
Question: | Is the cord detachable? The description says it is detachable, answers here say otherwise |
Answer: | The cord is not detachable but it is replaceable. If you're handy with a soldering iron you can however easily add a 3.5mm headphone jack to use a removable cable. |
Question: | How is the sound leakage? l need portable headphones to use in the bus, library, and such. I don't want to bother people around me |
Answer: | There is "sound leakage". At the moment, I have them hooked up to my computer. No special amplification, just on-board Realtek. At 75-100% volume, I can slightly hear them over ambient noise (such as my heater, which is kind of loud) while standing about ten feet away. I don't know if everyone else that answered this question listens to their music at low volume, or if their headphones have some insulation that mine doesn't but in my experience, there is plenty of "sound leakage". Also, you could actually use these as speakers while you're not wearing them. They wouldn't be loud enough to entertain anyone, but you could still listen to something while they sit on your desk. |
Question: | How durable are they in cold weather |
Answer: | I’m a professional location sound mixer in Alaska. I’ve had these headphones out in -50 F weather for 12 hour shoots. These headphones can withstand the cold |
