User questions & answers
Question: | Can this store music and play to a blue tooth headset |
Answer: | No It is a TACTICAL watch, was made for military use. I have it and have used it in Syria, Iraq and several other countries. It is a really good watch and has a great battery life, playing music would kill the battery. |
Question: | Can you download courses created from a 3rd party site as a .gpx or .tcx file? Or do you have to exclusively use Garmin Connect &/or Explore for that |
Answer: | For course creation other than Garmin Connect Garmin devices are compatible with Strava and Map My Run. For more information contact us at [email protected] or visit our Support Center, https://support.garmin.com/en-US/ Thanks Jenny |
Question: | Does this watch have a great compass,a good one, or none at all? I bought it for my son for Christmas the compass is an important feature for him |
Answer: | Good Compass but not great Hold down on one of the buttons and the watch face becomes a compass. It shows the degrees (0-360) and the general direction (SE for example). You would not use this watch to plot a course on a map. For that, you can buy a compass for less than $20 that lie flat on a map, can be adjusted for a magnetic correction, they have lines, etc. |
Question: | I do desert exploring on a polaris rzr. can i track my course while riding and then use it to return home the way i came |

User questions & answers
Question: | How reliable is the Verizon Connected series when you do not have your phone on you? I have not been able to find any reviews on this specific one |
Answer: | I don't know about the band size, but the diameter of the cases on most all Expeditions is 40mm....That's too large. It looks like an alarm clock on your arm...I returned the one I bought. Having said that, I would like to have one with a case diameter not exceeding 35mm. |
Question: | Will the Verizon connected version still connect to wifi |
Answer: | There are eight (8) holes in the strap. |
Question: | Does this work with Samsung galaxy |
Answer: | I think the band is OK for occasional moisture such as rain, would not wear it the shower or say canoing or kayaking. It has a synthetic suede like backing that absorbs water and takes awhile to dry, especially while worn. I would be OK immersing the watch in water such as swimming ( not diving) but would swap out the exisitng band for a nylon one for those activities. Band looks nice though and is comfortable ( so long as it is not wet) |
Question: | Does lte cellular of this watch work outside us |
Answer: | In December 2020 this listing included models where the the crown is inset into the bezel for protection (40mm) and models where the crown is unprotected (37mm). In 1944 the standard military field watch was 35mm to 37mm but today 37mm is considered a small watch for women. Some of the most expensive reproductions of WWII watched are also 36mm or 37mm. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this have voice prompts? Specifically want to use it for Tabata training. i.e. with app that counts down work/rest intervals |
Answer: | It does not have speaker, so unfortunately no. |
Question: | Does this watch automatically track exercise activity like Fitbit, or do you have to manually start an activity (e.g. a run) from the watch |
Answer: | The Garmin keeps track of everything a Fitbit does, steps ,heart rate, calories, etc. That said, if youre doing something "special", like a long run, by pushing 1 button (top rt.) and touching the watch screen once, it will connect with gps and after you're run, will show you a map of youre route with that run's stats. You can do this for all types of activities, not just running or walking. It even has a treadmill, or cycling setting. I love this watch, i think you will too. Its VERY easy to learn, most activities are done with 1 or 2 touches! |
Question: | Do I need to have a cell phone provider connect service to the watch |
Answer: | No you don’t |
Question: | Does this watch pair with iphone and android phones |
Answer: | Yes, as long as the phone meets our 'Bluetooth' requirements. Please go to support.garmin.com where you'll find FAQ's on the 'Bluetooth' requirements. Debbie with Garmin |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does the Garmin Venu´s display stay permanently on |
Answer: | Certain watch faces seem to have more trouble staying on than others. Also, the image does not stay permanently on, just the time. |
Question: | Is the display always on like on the other Garmin watches |
Answer: | Yes you can turn on always on display. |
Question: | How does the always on mode affect the battery life? Can you still get to ~5 days on a charge |
Answer: | No, I don’t think so, probably more like 3. |
Question: | How is this watch different from Vivoactive 4 besides the display |
Answer: | I got the Venu over the Vivoactive 4 simply because of the display. I personally didnt see any notable differences between the two models. if you are looking for detailed differences you should compare the specs between the two. The only thing i can see a difference in is the battery life/display. Based on over a month of usage, on average i get a solid 6-7 days of regular usage. |

User questions & answers
Question: | What is the difference between the sport version and the premium version of the Vivomove HR |
Answer: | No you don't, you can download your daily info to Garmin connect....this is a great watch |
Question: | Whatsapp message display and reply functionality |
Answer: | I ordered on January 13 and haven't heard anything about shipping. So I reached out to Garmin customer service today and they said it will be another 2-3 weeks for the 5S Sapphire. I'm not sure how folks are receiving theirs already if Garmin told me today that it hasn't been released yet...... I know that people who ordered the Fenix 5S (non Sapphire) already received them and they are even in stores already, so maybe that is what people have actually received. |
Question: | What notifications do you get? Can you respond |
Answer: | What are utm coordinates |
Question: | To verify, this can be worn while swimming |
Answer: | I have the Fenix 5S. The Wrist HR seems good when I am not active; like at my desk at work, sitting around the house, etc. But when I hit the gym and I am gasping for air, my wrist HR at times will record #'s in the 50's/60's. Impossible when I am working near my threshold. I don't have this issue when I put my chest strap on. This seems to be a consistent trend regardless of which Garmin wrist wearable I wear; I have several. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this watch waterproof |
Answer: | your best answer will be on the garmin website. https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/p/641375/pn/010-02157-23 |
Question: | Does this track elevation gain during your run |
Answer: | In other words, not as a good as Sapphire. While the Power Glass and Gorilla glass appear slightly less reflective direct sunlight, the Sapphire is the superior material in terms of scratch resistance and I have found there is very little trade off in terms of visibility. |
Question: | Would this fit a small woman's wrist |
Answer: | The Fenix 6X Pro has detailed topographic maps of North America and also has a basemap that covers the rest of the world. Other map regions can be purchased and added to the watch if required |
Question: | What advantage does the 235 have over the 35 to justify $100+ more |
Answer: | The screen is made of a material called Power Glass. The Bezel is titanium and the case is a fiber-reinforced polymer with a stainless steel rear cover |
Question: | What material is the Solar's pro bezel made of |
Answer: | It is an activity tracker. It will track the quality of your sleep, but you must manually turn sleep mode on and off, but it is not an alarm clock. Manual may be found here: http://static.garmin.com/pumac/vivofit_OM_EN.pdf |
Question: | How does the strength & scratch resistance of garmin's power glass compare to sapphire and gorilla glass |
Answer: | There is no charger. The battery has a shelf life of apx 1 year. |
Question: | Which maps come with the fenix 6x pro? only north america or the entire world |
Answer: | It did not come in the original package |
Question: | Is the 6x Pro Solar Black model made of titanium and does it have a sapphire screen |
Answer: | This device does not track your heart rate. More expensive models may do that. |

Multisport GPS Watch With Maps, Music, Metrics and More
Your Roadmap to Success
Whether you’re in the city or on the trail, all fēnix 5 Plus Series watches provide built-in mapping and navigation features to help keep you oriented and on course. Full-color TOPO mapping comes preloaded with map data optimized for at-a-glance navigation and location tracking. For runners and cyclists, the device also features Trendline popularity routing, which uses billions of miles of Garmin Connect data to help you find and follow the best trails and routes.
Multinetwork Navigation
Every fēnix 5 Plus Series watch features multinetwork (GPS, GLONASS and Galileo) satellite reception to track in more challenging environments than GPS alone. In addition to map-based guidance, each watch also provides a set of ABC (altimeter, barometer and compass) sensors for outdoor navigation. The built-in altimeter provides elevation data to accurately monitor ascent and descent for activities such as hiking, while the tilt-compensated three-axis electronic compass keeps your bearing — whether you’re moving or not.
Advanced Performance Metrics
When you’re pushing your limits, you need a decisive edge. fēnix delivers with sophisticated training features to monitor your form and performance. Tap into physiological metrics, running dynamics and more to track your workout stats, measure your progress and fine-tune your form. Training status automatically evaluates your recent exercise history and performance indicators to let you know if you’re overtraining, maintaining or peaking. You can also view your overall training load, which measures your exercise volume from the last 7 days and compares it to the optimal range for your fitness and recent training history. Special preloaded activity profiles are provided for swimming, running, biking, hiking, skiing, rowing, paddle boarding and more. For added motivation, download advanced workouts and training plans from Garmin Connect.
Wrist-based Heart Rate
On your wrist, Elevate wrist heart rate technology lets you monitor your heart rate without wearing a chest strap. In addition to counting steps and monitoring sleep, the watch uses heart rate to provide calories burned information and quantify the intensity of your fitness activities. It also measures your heart rate variability to calculate a stress score that helps you assess what level of activity your body is ready for.
A Little Traveling Music
Got a power song that gets you pumped up for a race or tough workout? Now you can have up to 500 songs stored right on your watch, for phone-free listening on the go. It’s easy to transfer music from your computer and then queue up your favorite playlist for easy listening through compatible Bluetooth headphones (sold separately). You can even sync your carefully crafted playlists from select music streaming services (May require premium subscription by a third-party music provider) to your watch for more ad-free listening. So leave your phone behind when you head out for a run or ride, because the music that keeps you moving is right there on your wrist.
Pay with a Wave of Your Hand
To help keep pace with your active lifestyle, fēnix 5 Plus devices feature our Garmin Pay contactless payment solution. Use it to pay for purchases so you can breeze through checkout lines while leaving your cash and cards at home. Try it anywhere there’s a scanner for contactless payments.
Stay Smartly Connected
All fēnix 5 Plus Series models support smart notifications when paired with a compatible device. Receive emails, texts and alerts right on your watch — whether you're on the trail, on the golf course or simply away from your desk. Other connected features include automatic uploads to our Garmin Connect online fitness community, live tracking, GroupTrack and social media sharing through our free Garmin Connect and Garmin Connect Mobile applications.
Premium Materials, Robust Performance
Built for rugged adventures and crafted of the finest premium-grade materials, fēnix 5 Plus Series watches are available in a variety of finish choices, including PVD-coated stainless steel bezel and DLC titanium bezel version. A bright, high-resolution, full-color Garmin Chroma Display with LED backlighting assures readability in all ambient conditions. And transflective technology that reflects and transmits light at the same time enables the watch face to become even more readable under intense sunlight. For added scratch resistance, a high-strength domed sapphire lens is available on several fēnix 5 Plus Series models.
Custom Apps, Watch Faces and Bands
You can customize any fēnix watch with free downloads from our Connect IQ store. Change your watch face, add data fields or get apps and widgets for information at a glance. There’s also a wide selection of QuickFit bands in your choice of premium leather, metal or silicone — so it’s easy to mix and match styles to go with any sport or activity. No tools are required to make the transformation. Just swap, click and go. With Garmin, you can add personality to your watch that’s uniquely you.
Running Power
Add power data to your training by downloading our Running Power app from the Connect IQ store onto your compatible watch. Developed by Garmin Labs, the Running Power app taps into metrics — such as pace, vertical oscillation, grade and even local wind conditions — to determine the amount of power you’re applying at the ground as you run. When you know how much power you’re expending from minute to minute and mile to mile, you’re better able to pace yourself, which can help keep you from tiring out too quickly. The best news? If you already own the right Garmin devices, adding power to your run is free. All you need is a fēnix 5 and one of these accessories: HRM-Run, HRM-Tri or the Running Dynamics Pod. Learn more.

User questions & answers
Question: | Does the watch count laps in pool workouts and calculate swolf |
Answer: | No It is a TACTICAL watch, was made for military use. I have it and have used it in Syria, Iraq and several other countries. It is a really good watch and has a great battery life, playing music would kill the battery. |
Question: | What language could I select? Does this have Japanese language |
Answer: | For course creation other than Garmin Connect Garmin devices are compatible with Strava and Map My Run. For more information contact us at [email protected] or visit our Support Center, https://support.garmin.com/en-US/ Thanks Jenny |
Question: | Does it give the distance on golf course |
Answer: | Good Compass but not great Hold down on one of the buttons and the watch face becomes a compass. It shows the degrees (0-360) and the general direction (SE for example). You would not use this watch to plot a course on a map. For that, you can buy a compass for less than $20 that lie flat on a map, can be adjusted for a magnetic correction, they have lines, etc. |
Question: | Is it Water proof |
Answer: | Yes, this function is available when set to a GPS activity. You can navigate back to the starting point of your current activity in a straight line or along the path you traveled |

User questions & answers
Question: | When in "normal" non-exercise mode, can i set the watch face just to display time, day & date |
Answer: | Yes, I wear it as a watch that normally displays time, date and battery life. Then I can toggle thru other displays when I want to see heart rate, steps, weather, calendar, workout, or any of the other features. |
Question: | Does the GPS work if it's covered by a jacket or long sleeved shirt |
Answer: | I purchased this for my wife so I do not use it however I am a surveyor so I do have vast experience with GPS. GPS signals will not be hindered by thin materials such as cloth. Inside buildings with wood and shingle roofs will throw the location of a bit reducing the accuracy. GPS signals simply do not penetrate metal objects. That being said you should not experience any loss of signal or accuracy using typical clothing items. You may experience some issues if the device was covered with something metallic such as those solar blankets. Perhaps a good experiment to ease your mind is use your cell phone's GPS tucked into your sleeve as the technology is nearly identical in all small consumer products. |
Question: | Is it water resistant |
Answer: | Yes, it is...I looked at the manual and the water rating is actually 5 ATM (atmospheres), not 5 meters. 5 ATM actually equates to about 50 meters deep, so technically you could swim or shower with this watch just fine. Just be aware that this model doesn't currently have any swim tracking features built in so there's not much of a point to swimming with it anyway (although you can install apps from Garmin Connect IQ, so perhaps there is a swim tracking app on there).Source: http://www.garmin.com/en-US/legal/waterrating(the "Swim" section of the table on that page has a footnote which references devices rated at 5ATM) |
Question: | Does this watch have continuous heart rate monitoring like the fitbit surge |
Answer: | I am not familiar with the fitbit however this garmin 235 monitors your heart rate constantly as long as you are wearing it. I wear mine even while I am sleeping. It is neat to see my resting heartbeat. Love it! |

User questions & answers
Question: | is this touch screen |
Answer: | Touch screen is garbage for exercise. Sweat + touch screen = no good. |
Question: | How do you tell it is Asian version |
Answer: | Primarily by its part number: APAC: Garmin part 010-01746-16 ROW: Garmin part 010-01746-00 APAC is the Asian version, and ROW is "Rest Of World". Functionally, there isnt much of a difference that you would know about. The APAC (Asian version) lags behind a month to several months for software version updates, but it does catch up eventually. The primary difference according to forums on the subject is language availability. That being said, I have not yet read where anyone having an Asian model could not do everything functionally that everyone else could do, including uploading data to Garmin Connect and usage of the site. This link will show you the picture differences in the packaging -note the part number difference: https://imgur.com/gallery/shzkPSh |
Question: | If it has the wrist heart rate monitor why do we need to buy the heart rate straps |
Answer: | The wrist monitor doesn't work in the water, which is why you'd want the SWIM band. Also, it isn't quite as accurate as a strap, which is what the regular TRI band is for. It also gives you running metrics that just the watch doesn't give you - that said, if you don't want a strap and want the metrics, there is a RD pod product from Garmin you can just clip onto your shorts. Personally, just the watch and the built in monitor are fine for me, as I use this watch primarily for running and biking. |
Question: | Is this the apac (asia pacific) version or the row (rest of world) version |
Answer: | I received mine on 25 March and it's the ROW version. I went with the default "fulfilled by Amazon" via one-day prime delivery. Not sure who the original seller was. |
