User questions & answers
Question: | To get the advanced running data and analysis, i know i need a chest strap. does the strap need to be hrm run, or can it be hrm tri |
Answer: | I have the HRM Tri and I can get all advanced running data and analysis. The only difference between them is that the Tri version has a memory inside, so it stores data from the swimming portion. Other than that, they are the same. |
Question: | How is the durability of this watch |
Answer: | My worked great for 18 months. I loved it. Wore it daily. 2 full ironman races 3 halves and several other smaller races. Then I used it for 2 Xterra races. It quit halfway through Worlds on Maui. Bummer. Near as I can tell one of the buttons is frozen. I guess mountain biking is too much for it. I'm ordering a second watch but this time I will save it for training and races only. Get a cheapo Timex for daily wear and no more Xterra races with the Garmin just to be safe. |
Question: | Can the watch be charged while running |
Answer: | All the functions seem to work with the charging clip attached, but the clip would be incredibly uncomfortable if attached to the watch while being worn. The clip attaches to the watch at the "3 o'clock" position and is fairly bulky. It would likely interfere with the function of the on-board heart rate monitor since it clips to the bottom and top of the watch. |
Question: | Will this sync with my Commodore |
Answer: | What a funny thread. Hey, I had a Commodore 64 and a tape recorder for storage! And before that TR99 4A. It was too expensive to expand. Nice piece of early 80s computer history. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this watch waterproof |
Answer: | your best answer will be on the garmin website. https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/p/641375/pn/010-02157-23 |
Question: | Does this track elevation gain during your run |
Answer: | In other words, not as a good as Sapphire. While the Power Glass and Gorilla glass appear slightly less reflective direct sunlight, the Sapphire is the superior material in terms of scratch resistance and I have found there is very little trade off in terms of visibility. |
Question: | Would this fit a small woman's wrist |
Answer: | The Fenix 6X Pro has detailed topographic maps of North America and also has a basemap that covers the rest of the world. Other map regions can be purchased and added to the watch if required |
Question: | What advantage does the 235 have over the 35 to justify $100+ more |
Answer: | The screen is made of a material called Power Glass. The Bezel is titanium and the case is a fiber-reinforced polymer with a stainless steel rear cover |
Question: | What material is the Solar's pro bezel made of |
Answer: | It is an activity tracker. It will track the quality of your sleep, but you must manually turn sleep mode on and off, but it is not an alarm clock. Manual may be found here: http://static.garmin.com/pumac/vivofit_OM_EN.pdf |
Question: | How does the strength & scratch resistance of garmin's power glass compare to sapphire and gorilla glass |
Answer: | There is no charger. The battery has a shelf life of apx 1 year. |
Question: | Which maps come with the fenix 6x pro? only north america or the entire world |
Answer: | It did not come in the original package |
Question: | Is the 6x Pro Solar Black model made of titanium and does it have a sapphire screen |
Answer: | This device does not track your heart rate. More expensive models may do that. |

User questions & answers
Question: | is this touch screen |
Answer: | Touch screen is garbage for exercise. Sweat + touch screen = no good. |
Question: | How do you tell it is Asian version |
Answer: | Primarily by its part number: APAC: Garmin part 010-01746-16 ROW: Garmin part 010-01746-00 APAC is the Asian version, and ROW is "Rest Of World". Functionally, there isnt much of a difference that you would know about. The APAC (Asian version) lags behind a month to several months for software version updates, but it does catch up eventually. The primary difference according to forums on the subject is language availability. That being said, I have not yet read where anyone having an Asian model could not do everything functionally that everyone else could do, including uploading data to Garmin Connect and usage of the site. This link will show you the picture differences in the packaging -note the part number difference: https://imgur.com/gallery/shzkPSh |
Question: | If it has the wrist heart rate monitor why do we need to buy the heart rate straps |
Answer: | The wrist monitor doesn't work in the water, which is why you'd want the SWIM band. Also, it isn't quite as accurate as a strap, which is what the regular TRI band is for. It also gives you running metrics that just the watch doesn't give you - that said, if you don't want a strap and want the metrics, there is a RD pod product from Garmin you can just clip onto your shorts. Personally, just the watch and the built in monitor are fine for me, as I use this watch primarily for running and biking. |
Question: | Is this the apac (asia pacific) version or the row (rest of world) version |
Answer: | I received mine on 25 March and it's the ROW version. I went with the default "fulfilled by Amazon" via one-day prime delivery. Not sure who the original seller was. |

User questions & answers
Question: | When in "normal" non-exercise mode, can i set the watch face just to display time, day & date |
Answer: | Yes, I wear it as a watch that normally displays time, date and battery life. Then I can toggle thru other displays when I want to see heart rate, steps, weather, calendar, workout, or any of the other features. |
Question: | Does the GPS work if it's covered by a jacket or long sleeved shirt |
Answer: | I purchased this for my wife so I do not use it however I am a surveyor so I do have vast experience with GPS. GPS signals will not be hindered by thin materials such as cloth. Inside buildings with wood and shingle roofs will throw the location of a bit reducing the accuracy. GPS signals simply do not penetrate metal objects. That being said you should not experience any loss of signal or accuracy using typical clothing items. You may experience some issues if the device was covered with something metallic such as those solar blankets. Perhaps a good experiment to ease your mind is use your cell phone's GPS tucked into your sleeve as the technology is nearly identical in all small consumer products. |
Question: | Is it water resistant |
Answer: | Yes, it is...I looked at the manual and the water rating is actually 5 ATM (atmospheres), not 5 meters. 5 ATM actually equates to about 50 meters deep, so technically you could swim or shower with this watch just fine. Just be aware that this model doesn't currently have any swim tracking features built in so there's not much of a point to swimming with it anyway (although you can install apps from Garmin Connect IQ, so perhaps there is a swim tracking app on there).Source: http://www.garmin.com/en-US/legal/waterrating(the "Swim" section of the table on that page has a footnote which references devices rated at 5ATM) |
Question: | Does this watch have continuous heart rate monitoring like the fitbit surge |
Answer: | I am not familiar with the fitbit however this garmin 235 monitors your heart rate constantly as long as you are wearing it. I wear mine even while I am sleeping. It is neat to see my resting heartbeat. Love it! |

User questions & answers
Question: | what is a "non-standard" battery |
Answer: | Evidently it has a battery that you can only have replaced by them...my previous garmins had the same thing. I have heard that people can replace it with a battery from an IPOD, takes some soldering in either case. I have not done that. Batteries on all of my garmins have lasted for years. |
Question: | I purchased Garmin Forerunner 310XT Waterproof Running GPS. I need to buy a Heart rate monitor that is compatible. Tell me wich please |
Answer: | Garmin will tell you need the Garmin Premium Heart Rate Monitor (Soft Strap, ANT+ compatible). I am using the Garmin Heart-Rate Monitor (Regular Strap) I had from my deceased Forerunner 205 and it works fine. Some people complain the old monitor can hurt the side of the chest over the ribcage, so you might choose the new one. It seems to be a lot lighter too. The old one tends to slip when it is not tightly adjusted. Hope this helps. |
Question: | How well does this work with training on a treadmill when you have to been indoors and stationary |
Answer: | I use the foot pod when running on the treadmill. You will get speed, distance and cadence information that is in the same format as when using the GPS. The foot pod will also give you cadence when are using the GPS outdoors. |
Question: | I am a petite woman with small wrists. Will this watch be too big and/or uncomfortable on a 5 or 6 inch wrist |
Answer: | I am also petite, 5 feet even and less than 100 pounds. While the watch is larger than a conventional one, I do not find it uncomfortable, and I have used it on runs as long as a marathon. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does the 245 have wrist hr monitoring? my 235 has perfectly accurate wrist hr monitoring, and i would hate to lose that function with an 'upgrade |
Answer: | Yes it has hr wrist monitoring that I have found to be very accurate. |
Question: | Does it come with charger included |
Answer: | All Garmin devices come with a charger in the box. The included cable is data/charging cable for connecting to a computer for syncing data and charging. Blake with Garmin |
Question: | Does it tell altitudes |
Answer: | I love this watch. It does not have a barometer for altitude, but the GPS / Garmin connect figures the altitude from the maps (and from GPS until it looks at the maps). Fine if you're not counting stairs or mountain-biking seriously needing a barometer. Note, there are 2 versions, amazon lists it as one product, for example (Aqua-Music) 010-02120-22 is the ROW (rest-of-world) version and 010-02120-52 is the APAC (Asian-Pacific) version. The firmware releases are different !!! Not to mention the available languages. The suppliers ARE sending the APAC version without any way to tell (in Amazon) that that might happen. I love the watch. I did send back the APAC one that Amazon sent because I wanted to use beta firmware and order (for a higher price) from REI to get one that I know will be ROW. But for most people, probably they won't care, both have English and the same features... |
Question: | I see reviews mentioning asian version of the watch, which they mention is inferior. how can i make sure i get the us one/standard one |
Answer: | Not easily. Amazon fulfills it with third parties. There are (aqua-music) two product IDs: -22 and -52 for the ROW and APAC versions. Amazon is _LISTING_ the NON-Asian product ID - so you could keep ordering until they send you what they listed!!! What I did is once I realized I had an Asian one, I sent it back and ordered from REI. You can see a Product ID in the listing, it is the Rest-Of-World product ID. The difference that hit me is that the firmware isn't compatible - I didn't care about the languages, they both have English, but I wanted to install the 3.52 beta firmware - which is ROW only. :( |

GPS Running Smartwatch with Music and Advanced Training Features
You do the running. Forerunner 245 Music does the thinking. It even gets to know you, mile after mile and song after song. This GPS smartwatch has storage for your favorite tunes, so you can keep moving to the music without having to lug your phone along. It also tracks your stats, crunches the numbers and gets to know all about your performance, your running form, your training history and even your goals. All you need to focus on is putting one foot in front of the other.
Let the Music Play

Sync your carefully crafted playlists from select music streaming services (requires premium subscription with a third-party music provider) — such as Deezer and Spotify — to your watch for ad-free listening. You can even store up to 500 songs right on your watch. It’s easy to transfer music from your computer and then queue up your favorite playlist for easy listening through headphones enabled with BLUETOOTH technology.
Advanced Performance Analytics
What amount of training is right for you? Forerunner 245 Music offers personalized training and recovery insight for smarter training decisions, helping you prepare for your next race. It keeps tabs on your VO2 max and understands how heat and altitude impact your performance. The higher your VO2 max, the higher you can expect to perform, which is exactly what is shown by the performance condition metric. Training status evaluates your recent exercise history and performance indicators to let you know if you’re training productively, peaking or overreaching. See how your workouts influence the development of endurance, speed and power with aerobic and anaerobic training effect feedback. Recovery time helps you maximize the benefit of your efforts by predicting when you will be ready for your next challenge. You can view your overall training load, which measures your exercise volume from the last 7 days and compares it to the optimal range for your fitness and recent training history.

Analyze Your Running Form
The Forerunner 245 Music GPS smartwatch also has the tools you need to improve your running form. The watch measures crucial running metrics (when used with Running Dynamics Pod or HRM-Run™ or HRM-Tri™ monitors (sold separately)) such as cadence, stride length, ground contact time and balance, vertical oscillationand vertical ratio. These measurements are the key to understanding your form, so you can bring your best on every run and at every race. Your Forerunner 245 Music can start tracking these metrics with the addition of a compatible heart rate strap or the compact Running Dynamics Pod, which clips right onto your waistband.
