If your screen had lines or black spots on it then you will also need a new LCD which would make your repair much more pricey. My son always cracks the digitizer (glass) and the LCD always survives. Be careful when using the clamps to avoid damaging the screen. I left my overnight to fully adhere. I am not a big fan of the preinstalled adhesive so I used B-7000 Adhesive. |

| Answer: | It’s usually only the digitizer that cracks, it’s the top glass layer. If the display has no black-out zones you don’t need a LCD panel. Everyone tears the WiFi antenna when they remove the digitizer. In addition to those two parts you will need 4 guitar picks, a 00 Philips head jewelers screwdriver, rubbing alcohol, cotton swabs, packing tape to tape the broken glass before you remove the old screen, a hair dryer to warm the edges to soften the adhesive, and a glass cleaning microfiber cloth to clean the LCD display before you attach the new digitizer because everyone gets dust and a fingerprint on the LCD display. Some people like an industrial single edge razor blade, or a utility knife blade as a 1st wedge, and a few toothpicks or a tweezer can be helpful but aren’t absolutely necessary.. Look carefully at the iPad. If the corners are bent, you will need to straighten them, but how to do that depends on what’s bent in what direction. The best advice is to make many passes pushing with something more like a popsicle stick and not too much pressure will turn out better than try to bend it into shape with a pair of pliers. If you use pliers, pad the jaws with the popsicle sticks (tongue depressors) to avoid having the hard tool steel crush the edge lip inward and claw a second set of wrinkles into the case. You’d have to fix the damage the pliers do to get the glass to seat itself into place. |
