9 best access points
An access point (AP) is a networking device that allows wireless devices to connect to a wired network. It serves as a bridge between wireless clients, such as laptops, smartphones, or tablets, and a wired network infrastructure, typically using Ethernet cables. Access points are commonly used in homes, businesses, and public places to provide Wi-Fi connectivity.
Here are some key points about access points:
Wireless Connectivity: Access points enable wireless communication by creating a Wi-Fi network. They broadcast wireless signals that devices can connect to, providing internet access and network resources.
Coverage: The coverage area of an access point can vary depending on factors like signal strength, interference, and physical obstacles.Multiple access points can be deployed to extend coverage in larger areas.
SSID: Access points have a Service Set Identifier (SSID), which is the network name that users see when searching for available Wi-Fi networks. Users must enter the correct SSID to connect to the network.
Security: Access points support various security protocols, such as WEP, WPA, and WPA2/WPA3, to protect the network from unauthorized access. Strong encryption and password protection are essential for securing Wi-Fi networks.
Management: Access points can be configured and managed through web interfaces or dedicated software. Network administrators can set security settings, monitor usage, and troubleshoot issues using these management tools.
Mesh Networking: Some modern access points support mesh networking, which allows them to work together to create a seamless wireless network with improved coverage and reliability.
PoE (Power over Ethernet): Many access points can be powered using Power over Ethernet, which simplifies installation by providing both data and power through a single Ethernet cable.
Integration with Routers: In home and small office setups, wireless routers often include built-in access points. These combined devices serve as both the router and the access point.
Roaming: Access points support seamless roaming for connected devices. As users move within the coverage area, their devices can switch between access points without losing connectivity.
Use Cases: Access points are used in various environments, including homes, offices, schools, airports, hotels, coffee shops, and more. They provide wireless connectivity to a wide range of devices, from computers and smartphones to IoT devices and smart appliances.
802.11 Standards: Access points adhere to IEEE 802.11 standards for wireless networking. Different standards (e.g., 802.11n, 802.11ac, 802.11ax) offer varying levels of performance and features.
In summary, access points play a crucial role in enabling wireless connectivity in various settings. They facilitate the creation of Wi-Fi networks, allowing multiple devices to access the internet and communicate with each other over a wireless connection. Proper configuration and security measures are essential to ensure the reliability and security of these networks.

User questions & answers
Question: | Is it possible to replace one of the omni directional antenna with an RP-SMA cable from one of those 24dbi antenna and use this AP as a repeater |
Answer: | If it's anything like the amped repeater/extenders (old REC10 for example) as long as you plug them within range of your router (REC10 recommends at least 70% router signal strength) you can have each extend your router's signal in the direction they are located. That gives you an access point at each (for example in opposite directions from your router, plus extending the wifi around each. In fact, I have extended my router's range by configuring one REC10 to extend another REC10 which is extending the router's original signal. I would be will to bet you can do all of this with this Netgear unit. |
Question: | Confused. It says "wireless" but yet asks to be hooked to computer. Can someone explain please |
Answer: | No. But it can be if your ability to extend diminishes quickly from the router due to walls, floors, tall furniture; etc. That's where wiring to the Extender (set to Access Point mode) helps |
Question: | Can this access point have the same SSID as my main router in order to be able to access the same network |
Answer: | It can be used in two different ways. If you just plug it into the wall and connect it to your existing WiFi, it creates a new SSID. Alternatively, you can run an ethernet cable to its location, where it will act as an access point to extend the existing wireless network. |
Question: | I need to have internet in a device that only takes ethernet. Can this device pick the wireless signal and give internet to my device using ethernet |
Answer: | I straight out bought mine the old American way with my money, unhindered by any promotional or free offers. Also be wary of very good or very bad reviews wherein you do not see the words "Verified Purchase" by the posters name. I'm seeing a lot more of those these days and by my thinking they must be fake reviews because why would someone even post a review here on Amazon if they didn't buy it here? Makes no sense to me. Enough of that but yes I did buy it myself and had it almost a week now and am very happy and impressed with the NETGEAR N300 WiFi Range Extender (EX2700). Mine is fulfilling my purpose for it by providing a strong and solid WiFi signal to my AmcrestPro HD WiFi camera overlooking the outside of my house. My camera's live video feed is now constant and uninterrupted and my screens on my pc, my Android phone, and my laptop all no longer freeze up while I'm watching the live feed. The NETGEAR N300 WiFi Range Extender (EX2700) is a success for me. As for the bad reviews for it I can only surmise they are from user errors in trying to use this device. It's been solid for me and I'm thrilled with it. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does it come with poe injectors? what else do i need to buy? controller, software... i need to know what a complete kit costs for a small office |
Answer: | This one does NOT include a PoE injector. You would need a PoE switch or injectors. If you have a large project generally you use a PoE switch so you can manage the connections. The software is FREE and works great. If you want to operate it from your phone or manage multiple offices/networks you'll have to purchase a cloud key for them. |
Question: | This comes with individual adaptors only |
Answer: | The five pack and the three pack don't come with the power injector, you will have to buy them in addition to this item, only the single pack come with the adapter |
Question: | Los 5 aps incluyen los inyectores poe |
Answer: | No they do not include Poe adapters. |
Question: | Do these still require 24v passive poe or do these now support 48v 802.3af/a |
Answer: | I've just bought two of these 5-packs and both of them are still 24V passives. Meanwhile on another site I ordered 3 or 4 individual units that all came as the newer 802.3af standard. I haven't been able to see any official word from UBNT on direction unfortunately. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can you hook an external antenna to unit |
Answer: | I do not see any mention of hooking an external antenna to this unit in the owner's manual. |
Question: | I don't see a wan port on this ac, it doesn't have one |
Answer: | This product is a wireless access point, often called simply an AP, or Access Point, and as such it doesn't have a WAN (wide area network) uplink port. You would connect this product to a regular LAN (local area network) port on an Ethernet (wired) router which in turn would be connected via its uplink port to a source of Internet access such as a cable modem that has been supplied to you as part of your cable company Internet access plan. |
Question: | How do I get this to work as an access point with my Xfinity gateway/modem/router? It's connecting but no internet |
Answer: | 1. You have to program the AC1200 using the admin account to act as an access point. Connect your pc directly to the AC1200. Turn the AC1200 on before you turn on your pc so that your pc gets a tcpip (internet) address that is compatible with the AC1200. 2. Login to the AC1200 with the admin account. Use your web brouser to get to the admin account. The default web address is usually 192.168.0.1 3. You have to disable the dhcp function on the AC1200. The Xfinity router needs to be the only device to assign dhcp addresses. If you don't disable the AC1200 from assigning dhcp addresses it will create a subnetwork that is separate from the Xfinity network using a different address range. (Usually starting with 192.168.000.002 to 192.168.000.255). 4. Setup any security settings and network names before you enable the access point mode. 5. Save your new settings and write down any passwords that you may have changed. 6. I also usually put a static IP address in the access point that is in the range of the Xfinity router. That way you can gain accesss to the AC1200 later because you know its address. 7. Plug in an ethernet cable from the Xfinity router to one of the 4 lan outputs of the AC1200. It might also work if you use the wan port (yellow connector) if Netgear updated their software. If you use one of the 4 outputs it guarantees that the access point will be part of the existing Xfinity network. |
Question: | Can this set up.as a repeater (wifi extender |
Answer: | A WAP or Wireless Access Point is different than a "repeater or WiFi extender". The primary function of this device is to plug a Cat 5/5e/6 cable into one of the ports. It connects by "hardwire" to your network first, then broadcast the WiFi signal. A WiFi Extender/repeater on the other hand connects by wireless to another wireless access point. You must determine "where" you want to connect first. The "range" will determine the antenna selection. User questions & answers
Question: | Does eap1250 have a config page like the eap1300, or is it necessary to use the ezmaster software to configure |
Answer: | the lite is fine. works great! |
Question: | Does it come with poe adapter |
Answer: | It supports B/G/N at 2.4GHz, and A/AC/N at 5GHz |
Question: | How is this different to eap1300 besides dimensions and led indicators |
Answer: | The unifi manager is required if you have any meshed AP's. If you shut it down, they will lose connectivity, but the wired AP's will remain working. |
Question: | This is dumb! why doesn't it say if it comes with a poe injector or just a ac power supply? some here say it comes with poe and others say no |
Answer: | It comes with a 24v injector brick. The lite came in both a 24v only version and a 802.3af/24v version that was released in 2017 or 2018. The latter is what is currently manufactured so unless someone pawns new-old-stock off on you as new you should get an 802.3af compatible WAP (the box will have a "PoE+ compatible!" sticker on it). I have one of the old style 24v and one of the newer PoE ones. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How far can this mesh |
Answer: | This is a difficult question to answer - it's essentially almost the same as how far wifi will work. Remember that mesh components need to be close enough to have good signal - it will then extend the range further and will good quality. |
Question: | Can this be used outside (directly exposed to rain |
Answer: | On their web site they have all the requirements of mounting outdoors. One of my friends has it mounted under a awning but it protected from the rain. If it exposed to rain then it must be mounted vertically. |
Question: | Does this a.p. come with a poe injector in the box |
Answer: | Yes |
Question: | Is this only a mesh? mine is poe powered form the unifi switch but only connects wirelessly, not via the ethernet cable |
Answer: | First, these are the best access points I've ever used. They're really fast and have great antennas. The UAP nodes can use either a traditional wired network connection or the can use a Wi-Fi link to another node, as with a mesh. I understand from the question that the AP is connected to a POE switch. If the POE switch has a network connection, then the AP should connect using that network link. Otherwise, it will search for a WI-Fi uplink. |
