14 best 1gb switch
A 1GB switch refers to a network switch that operates at a speed of 1 gigabit per second (1 Gbps) on each of its Ethernet ports. Here are some key points about 1GB switches:
Speed: A 1GB switch provides a network infrastructure capable of supporting data transfer rates up to 1 gigabit per second. This speed is common in modern local area networks (LANs) and is suitable for various applications, including file transfers, media streaming, and online gaming.
Ports: The term "1GB switch" typically indicates that each Ethernet port on the switch supports gigabit speeds. Common configurations include 5, 8, 16, or 24 ports, but switches with more ports are also available for larger network setups.
Backplane Capacity: The overall capacity of the switch is determined by its backplane capacity, which refers to the total bandwidth available for communication between the switch's ports. For a 1GB switch, the backplane capacity is designed to support the combined data transfer rates of all its ports.
Use Cases: 1GB switches are widely used in home networks, small to medium-sized businesses, and enterprise environments. They provide a significant speed improvement over older 100 Mbps (Fast Ethernet) switches and are suitable for handling the bandwidth requirements of modern applications.
Compatibility: 1GB switches are backward compatible with devices that support lower speeds, such as 100 Mbps or 10 Mbps. This ensures that older devices can still connect to and communicate within the network.
Managed vs. Unmanaged: 1GB switches come in both managed and unmanaged varieties. Unmanaged switches are plug-and-play devices that operate without configuration, while managed switches offer additional features such as VLAN support, Quality of Service (QoS), and network monitoring capabilities.
Power over Ethernet (PoE): Some 1GB switches support Power over Ethernet, allowing them to deliver power to connected devices such as IP cameras, VoIP phones, or other PoE-enabled devices.
Energy Efficiency: Many modern 1GB switches incorporate energy-efficient technologies to reduce power consumption when network traffic is low. This helps in minimizing the environmental impact and operational costs.
When selecting a 1GB switch, consider factors such as the number of ports needed, whether managed features are required, and any specific requirements for power over Ethernet or energy efficiency.Additionally, pay attention to the overall build quality and brand reputation for reliability and performance.

User questions & answers
Question: | I am using cat 8 cables. Will this product work? If not what other switch do i need |
Answer: | I think it sounds most like an MI Audio crunch distortion, which it is supposedly a clone of. The Crunch Distortion is supposedly based on the Rat. I've never played a rat, so I don't want to make the comparison. I will say for like $30 the joyo sounds really good, and after about six months of playing its had no issues. hope I helped a little |
Question: | Should this connect to arris tg1672g without any configuration on either side? the arris combines "..a 4-port gigabit router.." not working for me |
Answer: | Mono output , and why wud u use headphones??? |
Question: | Do i have to have 1gig internet speed to have this or no |
Answer: | Yes, i have used it for bassPretty cool, very agressive ...noisyBut if you dig that for bass it will work.If you're into gutter punk its perfect |
Question: | how to get plug and play to work? 14 ports not putting out IP, have modem and wifi router connected, but cant get other ports to work |
Answer: | Go for it. My son uses one with a small Crate ss practice amp, and it sounds phenomenal. He has to keep the volume on the pedal very low though - set above 9 o'clock it was not pleasant. Set around 8 o'clock sounded great. I tried it through a JC-120 and I thought it sounded as good as my George Dennis Wizard Rock, which is normally my favorite distortion pedal for JC. But again, finding the sweet spot in the pedal's output level was important. |

User questions & answers
Question: | What port would you plug the lan cable coming from the router into on the 24 port gigaswitch |
Answer: | It should work fine. Keep in mind this is a gigabit switch and cat8 would more typically be used for 10gb networking but its all compatible. |
Question: | Is this model wall-mountable? Does it have the little "screw-guides" to hang it on the wall |
Answer: | Your configuration should look like this: (Internet) Cable -> ARRIS TG1672G -> Port 1, 2, 3, or 4 -> Netgear 8-Port Switch Your Cable Modem provides 4 Gigabit Ethernet Ports and when you connect the Netgear 8-Port switch you lose 2 ports (one on the cable modem & one on the Netgear and end up with 10 Gigabit Ethernet Ports instead of 4. No configuration is needed. If one of the devices you're adding is a Wi-Fi router, then your configuration will look like this: (Internet) Cable -> ARRIS TG1672G -> Port 1 -> Wi-Fi Router -> Netgear 8-Port Switch. If you want all devices to be able to see each other, then you can have up to 7 of them plugged into the Netgear Router. |
Question: | what is the difference between the smart switch and the unmanaged switch |
Answer: | No. It's top speed is Gigabit (1000 Mbps), but it will work with 10/100 Mbps devices well. It's not just limited to Internet but any devices that wish to communicate with each other i.e. computer to Network Attached Storage (NAS) device, etc ... and usually those devices have gigabit Ethernet ports so they can communicate with each other at the gigabit speeds. |
Question: | Does this have a web GUI or do I have to use the TP-Link software for configuration |
Answer: | Make your flow as follows: Modem -> Wi-Fi Router -> Netgear 16-Port Gigabit Ethernet Switch. All your devices (up to 15 of them) will get their IP address from the Wi-Fi Router. You may also want to consider labeling your cables. I have two 16-port switches, one Unmanaged (for Internet) and one Managed (for private network), and all the cables are both color-coded and labeled. |

User questions & answers
Question: | is it poe switch |
Answer: | Not sure. The manual doesn't specify internal voltage. It has a standard 120-240 volt removable power cord. Like a PC power supply. |
Question: | GS316P rack mounts are nowhere to be found but post says it's rack mountable,do they in fact make a mount for this |
Answer: | Dimensions of this unit are 7.09 x 11.57 x 1.73 in, closer to a 1U rack mount though not as wide as a typical rack mount. A 2U rack mount height would be 2 x 1.75”, which equals 3.5-inches high. I don't use it as a rack mount. Mine sets on a shelf. |
Question: | Will this switch work to power up unifi access points? and other non poe devices at the same time |
Answer: | Yes - There are holes on the back of the switch to mount it on a wall. |
Question: | Is anyone running ubiquiti ap ac lr access point on this switch? i can't seem to get it to run without aps power injector |
Answer: | Simple: the easy smart model allows you to manage the features of the switch using included software. You can manage things such as bandwidth threshold by port, priority by port, etc. The unmanaged model is just that, unmanaged; in other words you cannot manage the individual ports. If you are experienced with managing Ethernet based networks, buy the managed switch. If you are just a basic user, buy the unmanaged switch and get "plug and play" usability. |

User questions & answers
Question: | What is the actual dimension of the 16-port switch? The dimension in production information is the size of shipping box |
Answer: | 11.3 × 4.4 × 1.0 in as found on the manufacturer's site https://www.tp-link.com/us/home-networking/16-port-switch/tl-sg116/ |
Question: | Do i still need to use a poe injector to each camera if i have this switch |
Answer: | As the other answers point out, you can use the 4 POE ports for a camera. Some cheap injectors are dangerous for your equipment. Be sure the injector implements the IEEE 802.3af or 802.3at standard, and then you'll be safe. |
Question: | what do i need to daisy chain three of these with fiber |
Answer: | without knowing the distance between switches, you would need to research if you need single mode SFPs, or if multi-mode, either short or long range will do. Depending on the SFPs, you would then need the proper cable as each has it's own requirement. multi-mode I would recommend OM3. Single mode requires it's own single mode duplex type cable. |
Question: | is this a managed switch |
Answer: | No, it is what TP-Link calls a SMART switch. There is L2/L3 managed Switch, Smart Switch, Easy Smart Switch and Unmanaged Switch in TP-Link official website, this article will give a brief account about the features and application scenarios of the respective switch. Unmanaged SwitchYou are not able to configure the unmanaged switch because it doesn’t support any configuration interface or options. It is plug-and-play, so you only need to connect your computer or other network devices to the unmanaged switch directly. Therefore, if you do not need any L2 features, but only need to extend the number of Ethernet ports, unmanaged switch is the right switch for you. Easy Smart SwitchYou can use Utility or Web interface (Web only for TL-SG1016DE and TL-SG1024DE) to manage easy smart switch and configure basic settings, such as VLAN, QoS and a few L2 features like LAG, IGMP Snooping and Port Mirroring. If there are no advanced applications needed, easy smart switch should be the best choice for you. Normally, easy smart switch will be found in the home, SOHO or small business. Smart SwitchSmart switch can be managed by Web interface, Telnet, SSH and SNMP. It supports far more L2 features and better QoS than easy smart switch, additionally, smart switch supports more advanced functions like ACL and Spanning Tree protocol, if you want to support a solution for one small company or colleague with a lower price, the Smart switch is the indispensable device. L2 Managed SwitchL2 managed switch has a console port for CLI (Command Line Interface), it has all the managing ways and advanced features that smart switch has, besides, L2 managed switch has abundant VLAN and Multicast features as well as cluster for logical stacking and Network Security features including 802.1X and IP-MAC binding. So you can use L2 managed switch to build a resiliency and availability network or even build up a small ISP Access Network. L3 Managed SwitchL2 switch could only work in Layer 2--Data Link Layer of OSI model. But Layer 3 switch has some L3 functions just like a traditional router--static routing, routing protocol like OSPF and ECMP, multicast routing protocol and DHCP relay.Compared with a traditional router, L3 switch has lower cost but better performance in packet routing speed because the layer 3 switch routes packets by its hardware--ASIC instead of CPU, once it learned the IP address, it will forward packets by switching performance. It is mainly used in the core layer of a middle sized business network, providing better hardware switching performance in routing. |
Product features
Power over Ethernet
4 of the 8 Auto-Negotiation RJ45 ports of the switch support power over ethernet (PoE) function. These PoE ports support power up to 55W and they can automatically detect and supply power with those IEEE 802.3af compliant powered devices(PDs).
Power Overload Protection
When total power consumption exceeds 55W, the intelligent power management will cut the lower priority port power off to ensure the high priority port's power supply and protect the device from power overload operation.
